RiP Graham Thorpe on 09:06 - Aug 5 with 5761 views | Hoopstar | I loved watching him bat growing up. A real highlight of a generally poor England side during his career. No age at all, and seemingly a great cricket guy behind the scenes of the game.

RiP Graham Thorpe on 14:15 - Aug 5 with 4589 views | Tonto | It was one of those "oh no" moments when I saw this on the BBC sport page. Gutted. Saw his debut for Durrey and said to my dad that he was one to watch. Sad day. RiP Graham

RiP Graham Thorpe on 14:48 - Aug 5 with 4497 views | numptydumpty | I had heard he was very unwell for some time. But am still shocked he has gone. Never to be forgotten though. Hope his family can remember the great days of the past, in time but awful all round. Definitely one gone too early. RIP Thorpey [Post edited 5 Aug 14:50]

RiP Graham Thorpe on 15:12 - Aug 5 with 4407 views | NorthLondonR | Awful news... I tried to look past his Surrey connection when he was batting in tests. He was an elegant player amd that's no age whatsoever. So sad!
RiP Graham Thorpe on 21:01 - Aug 5 with 4068 views | CamberleyR | Dreadfully sad news. He was extremely unfortunate to play the majority of his test career in a pretty mediocre England team and also to come up against some of the all time great bowlers like Warne, McGrath, Ambrose, Walsh, Wasim, Waqar, Donald, Pollock, Kumble and after all that still end up averaging 44. He played in five Ashes series not winning one and quite often heavily beaten, he deserved at least once to be on the winning side but it wasn't to be. 2005 when he could have been, he lost his place to Pietersen. A true stalwart of the England team for over a decade. RIP Thorpey.

How do you remember that? He was the middle order protector who had to play defensively as out front order collapsed He was a legend but England got timing right to move to New era with pietersen in that ashes

He could block, but he wasn't a blocker by trade. Capable of blistering pulls and drives, but as you say, in that era we were often in dire straits so had to take it easy. Also remember that was still the era where if you got caught on the boundary with a loose shot your place would instantly be under threat.... Loved him, so sad.
