Question for the musos 11:20 - May 22 with 2901 viewslegoman

Thanks to Jinxy21's post re Wishbone Ash which prompted me to revisit Argus again while I'm gardening.

And I started to think back to the early/mid 70's stuff I listened to in those days. I was a massive fan of Alan Freeman's Radio 1 programme on a Saturday afternoon. I also recall a Radio 3 show called "Sounds Interesting" which played a lot of prog stuff.

Now here's the help I'm seeking. Around this time, I remember hearing a live gig on Radio 1 by King Crimson which I recorded on a TDK AD90 tape by microphone praying no-one would barge in the room and ruin the recording. The gig was excellent in my memory and I particularly remember the version of "Easy Money".

I'm sure this was 1974/5/6 just before I went to Uni. The tape is long since lost and I have tried to Google it to chase down a copy with no luck. I can find other live stuff from that era, just not the one I want. I have a feeling this was a special gig arranged by the BBC and Radio 1.

Does this ring any bells with anyone, and more importantly anyone know if it's out there in cyberspace?

Signing off now as "The King will Come" has just started!

"M'sieur, you said your dog did not bite!" "That's not my dog"

Thanks dna. Yes I'd previously found that BBC link. Should have said so in my op.

Saw Greenslade live at Sheffield Uni, probably late '73, "Bedside Manners are Extra" era. Very good, all of them top notch, well seasoned musicians.

Is this any good? Recorded in November 1973 live in Amsterdam but called "Pop Spectacular BBC in Concert" and it opens with 'Easy Money'

Wishbone Ash show at Pontardawe Arts Centre 4 years ago , without hearing their music since Argus /Pilgrimage in the seventies Jail Bait really rekindled it all again .
As an aside , and a link to King Crimson , would mention John Wetton who recently passed away alas , I followed his music through to him being in to Asia , the band + Roxy Music for just one album he was involved in .
Ultimate Prog Rock in my opinion ELP , Carl Palmer still has it playing live .

karrnataka, thanks to your detective work I have now established that the 1973 recording at the Concertgebouw Amsterdam is indeed the same as the BBC one that I remember. I took a listen but also Wikipedia seems to confirm it. Even better it's on Spotify!

I'm still on my quest of acquiring albums on CD I used to have years ago, or borrowed off mates, on vinyl, but have since lost.
I'm a big fan of Wishbone Ash's Argus, but don't recall ever having Pilgrimage. What do you Wishbone Ash officionados think of it? I know and like the track Vas Dis, but read a quite disparaging review of the album recently by an Ebay reviewer. Should I buy it?
Another album I've never really listened to, despite wearing out the previous four albums by constant playing, is Physical Graffiti by Led Zep. Anyway, I've taken the plunge and sent for a new copy at a not inconsiderable £16 odd, so here's hoping it's good.

Mike, if you like, I can put an mp3 version of Pilgrimage in my Dropbox and email you a link so you can listen to it at your leisure. It's not as consistent an album as Argus but it does have some excellent tracks.

Cheers, Dave, that would be great. 👍
