As opposed to the scumbag corporate leeches? It's sort of related, but one of the governors of a US state was asked yesterday why they didn't have enough testing kits. He responded that it's currently like buying something in an auction on eBay with the 50 US States bidding against each other, driving the price ever up that the pharmaceutical companies can charge. That's no way to run a health service. You go to the US and you constantly see expensively shot TV ads for some medicine or other, encouraging desperate people to force their doctors to buy it - on the basis of a 30 second advert, which is absolutely crazy. No doubt many of the adverts were made by Roche - please explain why you instinctively trust them? At least politicians have to go on the record to try and explain themselves, whereas the directors of a multi-national company like Roche can ignore the public as much as they want, or leave that to their PR firms. You'll have noticed that the politicians were all named, but Roche responded through a spokeswoman (not even a director of the company) who was unnamed. But there was plenty of wriggle room in the Roche spokeswoman's reply: "a contract or agreement directly with Wales to supply testing". What the hell does that mean? [Post edited 2 Apr 2020 4:55]

In the words of Frank Drebin - “The cows are coming home to roost“. It’s a great example of why healthcare should not be left at the “mercy” of the privateers and the open market. Not much “competition for greater value for money” going on here .

The governor of New York Andrew Cuomo was saying exactly the same at the weekend about ventilators - with the 50 states chasing the same item, the price of a ventilator had risen from $25000 each to $45000 each in just a couple of days.

"You go to the US and you constantly see expensively shot TV ads for some medicine or other, encouraging desperate people to force their doctors to buy it - on the basis of a 30 second advert, which is absolutely crazy". Pretty much the same as medical reps here entertaining the health profession to sway them to buy their products.

Easy enough for them to provide evidence of that then.
| Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back. |
