"The decision we make on our academy category status, currently Category One, more or less depends on how we decide to move forward in relation to the training grounds. For example, it would be difficult physically and logistically, if not impossible, to maintain Category One status if we consolidated all our operations to just one training venue" Must be facilities at the RTB that aren't duplicated at Fairwood. Classrooms maybe? Just makes the decision not to consolidate everything in one place thus reducing overall running costs even duller.

Their previous strategy was leave it to Huw, now it's leave it to Trevor. It's pretty standard practice anyway. Investment funds like this don't buy into a business and run it themselves. Not sure why everyone thinks that Kaplan or Levein would be getting involved on a regular basis. They aren't some local businessman buying and then running his club like we've been used to. We're just a small part of their overall interests.

Category 1 requires clubs to offer education so a 'campus' of sorts is needed. This would be difficult to achieve without the facilities we see at Landore or a large building programme at Fairwood. I hadn't realised the academies received money from the FA so maybe that was also a consideration. 'The EPPP academy system is based around an independent audit process, where clubs are assessed and categories and given a status of 1 to 4, with 1 being the highest status. The club clubs are assessed on different key areas including: Productivity rates Training facilities Coaching Education Welfare Provisions Then giving a grading appropriately. The EPPP will ensure that more money is invested by the FA and Premier League into English Youth Development, with a tiered approached of invested available across the football academy categories. This approach means that category one academies will receive more funding than category two and so on.' I would think the Swans rank highly on those criteria.

I get the challenges you are facing reducing costs etc, but now you have it from the horses mouth how much it's costing you and £3 million is a no brainer for an academy producing the returns you are. I think it's inevitable that Rodon will go this summer but looking at the size of the clubs showing interest in him, you are pretty much guaranteed to get a good return on him. So once again the investment is justified. The stumbling block for you at present is the fact the first team and the academy are on different sites. If you can get a good return on selling the site it would be wise to invest on one big site nearer the m4 corridor.
The Academy stays for now on 18:57 - Feb 7 with 4593 views | jasper_T | We're going through a good patch right now (the legacy of the PL investment into players and having a good group before we even gained Cat 1 status) but being able to sell a £3m+ player every year to keep the academy in the black is far from a given going forward. A few lean years with no one attracting PL interest and the debts start mounting up. It's a lot of pressure on an increasingly local pool.

One thing I never understood was why didn't they build one site that accommodated first team facilities and the training academy instead of two separate sites.

Go on then .... Who will buy Landore and for how much ? And of course any buyer will only pay the absolute minimum as they know Swans are in the shite. Meanwhile we are stuck with rental money out the door every year at Fairwood. Trev has picked his words very deliberately ....

What is missing at Fairwood for the academy to be based and retain Cat 1 status there are classrooms and an indoor barn. At the moment there is also a link with a school in Pontardawe for ongoing scholars' education. Obviously, education could no doubt be relocated to Bishopston Comp or Olchfa should the academy be re-located at Fairwood. Swansea University have already been sniffing around Landore and should a deal be in the offing the academy could still be based at Landore and the club take out a lease as they do at Fairwood. Plenty of options available, all depends on the status level the club want in pursuing youth development.

The Academy stays for now on 22:05 - Feb 7 with 4369 views | Swanseajill | It's a sad situation if either of these assets are sold. Bringing in local talent is the aim for every football club in the UK. And how many years have we yearned for a decent training venue for our squad? During the first division, my main wish was for something to show for reaching the top, here we are with all these years in the Prem, and we had something concrete to show for our efforts, A brand new training ground, an academy for bringing in young players and for introducing local talent. It makes me sad other than pleased we may end up with little to show for the glory years in the Prem.
