Rugby World Cup - best ever performance? 11:27 - Oct 26 with 4877 viewsNigeriamark

I know we won the whole thing in 2003 but what about today as a one off performance Never beaten NZ in the World Cup before yet completely dominated the team considered favourites. Not the greatest all blacks team ever but had won about 19 on the trot in world cups. Can’t wait for next week

Didn't realise I wasnt allowed an opinion. Silly me for daring to say that egg chasing is a shite sport

Everyone has the right to an opinion. The strange thing is that you firstly opened a thread and secondly took the time to post in it, about something that you don't like.

Now where is that wrestling threat for me to post in that it is a load of rubbish!

Rugby qualifies as sport. I have similar views on wrestling. Strictly panto. Or pants.

Not going to takeover a whole thread about a different subject, but will also make a comment in response: nobody claims wrestling is a sport. It’s far from pantomime alone though and the athletic attributes of some who wrestle are up there with any person involved in sport.

So its SA

Pleased about that, chance of revenge for the defeat in 2007. Plus, the match won't have a parochial feel about it that can change player's reactions to incidents

Didn't see the game today but sounded like a tense affair. Wales will be gutted to pull it back level then lose on a late penalty

Anything to fear from SA, or will England start as favourites? I am assuming so but anything can happen in a final. I can't wait

Only watched the second half, and definitely wouldn't want to put the mockers on England but providing we're as up for it as we have been so far, certainly nothing to fear. I'd say SA are a slightly inferior version of NZ - their forwards look to dominate but not quite as classy as ours and we should be able to force penalties again

My concern is a few injury/fitness niggles, especially Farrell & May, and we've had to send out a replacement scrum half to back up Youngs. We have a extra day to recover though

It was a poor game that lacked creativity. SA will field a massive pack and try and look to win the battle up front. If Kolbe is back they have two tricky wingers, although I'm not sure they are that great defensively, especially under the high ball. Le Roux and De Klerk can spark, but they can be erratic.

There will be a temptation to start Slade ahead of Ford due to the physicality of the SA team, but I would go same again, injuries pending. Spencer coming in for Heinz is no great loss. In fact I rate Spencer more and he offers a running threat coming on against tired defenders.

Comments were a bit tongue-in-cheek tbf 442. I really know virtually nothing about wrestling so probably shouldn't have commented, other than to say it leaves me cold.

Back to the rugby, much more kicking today and neither team looked anywhere near as good as England or the All Blacks. If we play to our ability, we shouldn't be troubled, but that's the intrigue of sudden death - owt can happen.

Unbelievable performance, England have the best forward line in world rugby and it showed today.

Some of the tackles put in by the English today were scary. Defended with tenacity and power and the all blacks just couldn’t live with it.

Not sure I agree with the commentary about it being one of the biggest shocks in World Cup history though. We’re talking about the 2 best teams in world rugby. There have been far bigger shocks.

Yes. How about Tonga beating France in 2011?

Back to England: I've been watching since the early 70s and I can't remember anything quite like THAT performance. I can't find a superlative to do it justice. And seventeen turnovers! :O Against The All Blacks!! Straight after the game I had to phone a friend just to check that it really had happened.

No, I know they were tongue in cheek! Will always be fiercely protective - like in that massive thread way back - and totally appreciate others might think it’s a load of rubbish. Same as anything else I guess, and, on topic, many might not like rugby. All about personal preference.

(Only replied to clarify, btw. Done)

Japan beating South Africa in the last World Cup is the one that always springs to mind for me.

Wales losing to Western Samoa in 1991.....i recall max boyce saying he wondered how many they would have lost by if they had played all of samoa!

He found out 8 years later when the lost to the combined samoa team....be careful what you ask for!

The TMO was a South African which is strange as they are in the other Semi Final,
Still he certainly got the second disallowed try wrong.

Wales were in the semi with SA, the referee for the England/NZ game is Welsh.

The Welsh guy is a good ref, I'd expect him to get the final if the appointment is based purely on ability.

Very disappointing today. We were never at the races from the kick off. We looked pretty nervous after Sinckler went off early on. Our old Achilles heel of giving too many penalties away came back to haunt us. The fear that we had played our cup final last weekend turned out to be true.
