Game Off on 12:35 - Jan 20 with 7367 views | rich_dale | Not the first time this has happened. No mention of any issues, pitch inspection, anything, then all of a sudden, it's off. The pitch mustn't have been in great nick prior to the covers coming off so why didn't the ref have a look yesterday? Can't believe 4 hours of rain have turned the pitch from playable to waterlogged.
Game Off on 12:35 - Jan 20 with 7364 views | KenBoon | I don't live in Rochdale anymore, but i've not heard anything about a downfall of epic proportions. Or are our drains f**ked now too.
Game Off on 12:41 - Jan 20 with 7245 views | isitme | It has been really wet the past few days. Frozen sleet on the car first thing in the morning. Lots of rain, freezing and thawing during the day, sweating under the covers and a knackered pitch in the first place is a recipy for disaster. I do feel sorry for any travelling Southend supporters.
Game Off on 12:45 - Jan 20 with 7168 views | EllDale | I worry about the psychological impact this might have. It's alright having games in hand but by 5.00pm tonightwe could be nine points behind the next club and ten points from being out of the bottom four.
Game Off on 12:46 - Jan 20 with 7145 views | ColDale | From the club fb page: UPDATE: The ref has had a look at the pitch & is happy that it's currently playable. With snow still coming down and more forecast throughout the morning, he'll assess it again at 12.30pm. All efforts are continuing to get the snow off the covers. A big thanks to the 30 plus volunteers who are helping! Only live a stone's throw away and I've not noticed any major chance preceding 12:30pm | | | | Login to get fewer ads
Game Off on 12:47 - Jan 20 with 7122 views | Laveritty | Bear in mind that Eddie Ilderton was the ref who called off a Bury game a few weeks ago when there was about half a millimetre of snow on the pitch at 12 o'clock! Then when it cleared about 5 minutes later the pitch looked like a bowling green compared to our muddy sandpit! Not surprised in the slightest, therefore, that our game has been called off in view of the above! Not disputing the decision as I haven't seen the state of the pitch today and many observers thought it looked potentially dangerous when we played Blackpool so presumably that is still the case?

No real surprise; it's been a very wet week. Even a good pitch might have struggled. The last twenty-four hours havn't been that bad, though. Those Southend fans who have travelled have every right to feel aggrieved.
Game Off on 12:49 - Jan 20 with 7089 views | surb_dale | Its an embarrassment not to plan for an inspection earlier this morning taking into account the distance the away fans have to travel. The club should be reimbursing travel expenses to all fans that have travelled a long distance. Having said that the forecast for Rochdale area all through the week and even last night indicated a pretty much dry day for Saturday so looks like the forecasters have been way off with that which hasnt helped. Suspect this will be the first of many postponements through to the end of the season.

I doubt the referee can be blamed for anything here.

And another league game off next weekend with the cup game - by the time we play again we could be 12 points from safety - even with games in hand we aren't going to make up that kind of gap.

Game Off on 12:54 - Jan 20 with 6980 views | DaleFan7 | P!ss poor and shows the sorry state our pitch really is in. It's been a wet week all over the country and were the only league game off up to now but it's not exactly been a deluge. P!ss poor that it's taken until this time to decide it's off when the pitch was bad this morning. Yet the club said no inspections planned when people have contacted them.

Game Off on 13:02 - Jan 20 with 6825 views | Brierls | Sack the groundsman. It’s blatantly obvious that he is not up to it. The pitch looks great, until you try and play football or rugby on it. I bet his garden looks fantastic until people come round for a BBQ. We have had several consultants and specialist companies, each offering assurances over whatever works would give us regarding the pitch. Each and every time he’s ballsed it up as soon as these consultants leave him to it. Now we have a beach because the automatic solution is to add sand, sand and more sand. What happened last time we had a beach? It got waterlogged every time we had rain. What has happened this time? We’ve had a postponement after rain, despite there being pitch covers. We have grass growing lamps, we have frost covers and now we have rain covers. Basically we have more equipment than ever before to maintain and protect a pitch. We’ve got a beach. It’s a complete joke. Unprofessionalism at its cringeworthy worst.

I wasn't (hence my stating that I was not disputing the decision) just simply pointing out that it wasn't a surprise knowing that he had called off the Bury game (can't be bothered to look for them right now but check out the pictures of the pitch on the day) when it looked much better than I expect ours does at the moment! Even if it’s just that, it’s not good enough. There should be a consistent plan in these situations that is followed at all times which focuses totally on supporters.

Without half the stuff we have now I cant recall many games being called off due to the pitch being waterlogged under the previous 2? Groundsmen

It is. It’s down to the club to provide a surface that is fit for purpose and when it’s not to ensure they are as open and honest as possible with supporters. And that when things go wrong they are accountable and apologise with an indication of what they’ll do better.
