Southampton Accept £60 Million Offer For Romeo Lavia
Monday, 14th Aug 2023 11:53

Saints have had their valuation of Romeo Lavia finally met after weeks of tinkering that has helped no one, the player, Southampton, or for that matter Liverpool who could have had him in their team at Stamford Bridge.

Reports from Merseyside are saying that Liverpool have had a £60 million bid accepted for Romeo Lavia empireofthekop.com are reporting that Ben Jacobs on X (Formerly Twitter) is saying:

"Liverpool have now had a £60m package for Romeo Lavia accepted by Southampton. As expected, things moving fast.

"Lavia has always indicated he is open to a move to Anfield.

"Chelsea's last bid was £55m. Should they proceed it's again going to come down to player choice..."

He then followed with:

"Saints indicating it will simply come down to player choice, which implies they are willing to do a deal with both clubs.

"Second Chelsea vs. Liverpool transfer battle in the space of a few days potentially incoming..."

So it is not a done deal with Liverpool or for that matter Chelsea yet, it seems that Saints strategy of holding out for top dollar, has worked, whilst Liverpool's of putting in derisory offers and only upping them by a million here and there has backfired spectacularly, they now find Chelsea coming into the equation and Lavia who a week or so ago was favouring Liverpool as his next destination, is now being courted by his old Academy coach at Manchester City now of Chelsea Joe Shields.

Of course this lad could go on to be a world class player. However it seems a bonkers price in my opinion. He looked good at times last season but also very raw with plenty of mistakes. Cant see he's ready for the first team of a top PL club. Would have thought a season in the championship would have been better for all parties.

Very good deal for 19 year old with 1 season in PL. I hope got a sell on clause. Will have to pay MC 20% of profit. Makes up for caving in on Tino £32m wanted £50m) and JWP values, £30m wanted £40m. Looks like Downes loan later today. Maybe Holgate loan this week. Manning free. Swap deal winger for Big Paul I like. SR needs to buy striker. Martin wants Piroe, so just buy him. Before Plymouth. If Smallbone injured, need CMF cover.

Good dealing by Wilcox C'mon Chelsea 65m and he may be yours
It would be good to get one over Liverpool
Can we now get some good news on incomings
Remember fat Les would have taken thier first offer and sealed the deal with drinks in the A field directors lounge

Thank you Chelsea. Your persistence in upping the price has cost Liverpool another 10 million when they could have quietly done the deal for 50 M .. just a few weeks ago.

It's difficult know what the future holds for Lavia, and I echo the thoughts of those above.
One season at the bottom end of the Prem. in a team that quite frankly wasn't up to it means it's hard to really analyse his real impact. He looked good in almost every game, but how he will fare in the coming season in Liverpool's new set-up remains to be seen.

One interesting thought is that despite the praise that comes to our own Academy lads, we have now gained a reputation for successfully developing other club's youngsters who come to us. With the Livramento deal finalised at 35-40 million (?)..and now the Lavia's 60M transfer on the cards, it has set the benchmark for any future deals with our players who may move onto those "big clubs" who have more money than se***...(the rest of us).

We have been saying for two seasons now that we need two central defenders, a proper striker and now a complete overhaul of the midfield. We need a Oriel Romeu. If Lavia is going it means we have made about £120m so for once, SPEND some money on experienced players.
We are talking about a Championship team, NOT the under 21's, PLEASE no more youngsters, get off your backside Martin and get on the same wavelength as 30,00+ supporters who are the life blood of this club. In all my 70 years as a Saints supporter, I have never given up on my hope that one day we will win something again, but unless Martin stops talking over the problems we see week after week, it will be a TAXI by the end of November. You have three weeks to get a team.

Just watched the Burnley documentary about their relegation We are now going through exactly the same scenario Company brought in 9 players before the season started and some more before the window closed This was mainly because they had an aging squad
Here's hoping we can emulate thier sucess

UTube video shows Bazunu failing to come off line on first and third Norwich goals. Maybe apart from quicker, more attentive CB’s we also may need a better goalkeeper.
