Nathan Redmond Out With A Hamstring Injury
Tuesday, 24th Nov 2020 14:43

Saints injury worries worsened this week with the news that Nathan Redmond picked up an hamstring injury prior to the Wolverhampton Wanderers game and may miss the Manchester United home game at the weekend..

Ralph Hasenhuttl confirmed that Nathan Redmond was missing from the Saints squad at Molineux not because he had been dropped or tactical reasons, but because of a hamstring injury.

Asked for an update on winger Ralph Hasenhuttl had this to say:

“It will be seven to ten days so for Sunday, I don't think so.

"It was a small injury but definitely a hamstring injury.

"It has not been his best season so far.

“He has had problems with his body and this is definitely a player that we will miss."

This means that he is likely to miss the game against Manchester United although could potentially be fit for the trip to Brighton the following weekend.

Moussa Djenepo played wide left at Wolves but was not totally convincing and is still yet to become a pro active player and understand his defensive duties, alternatively Ralph could play Nathan Tella or as he did when taking Djenepo off on Monday night, bring Theo Walcott back to the wing and play Shaane Long or Michael Obafemi up front or even Dan N Lundulu

We really missed Redmond, even though he hasn't been top of his game this season it would have been incredible to be able to sub him on against Wolves. Lots of teams are experiencing multiple injuries, this season is really exposing all clubs' lack of depth.

For those fans who have doubted Redmond's quality this season, they must wait longer for his next start but meanwhile I think Ralph will stick to the present personnel (injuries permitting) and I doubt that we will see him experimenting with the likes of Obafemi or N'Lundulu - especially against United.
Can only hope that Redmond returns with renewed energy that we are used to from him.

Sunday would be a great time to give Nlundulu a try because if we are to keep improving
we need someone with physical presence to help Che.
Long is a backward step.

I mean if it wasn’t for Ings being out as well, it wouldn’t be too much of an issue, but seeing that we’ve now got no experienced wingers on the bench (as they’re all youth products), we really need to hope that nether Armstrong or Djenepo gets injured or any issues as we’ll be struggling in that position seeing that Walcott is currently playing up front and if he was to drop to the wings, would most likely be replaced up front by Long. I mean let’s just hope that these injuries can end quick as after Man U, Ings could be back (as it will have been 4 weeks since his injury against Villa) so that will be a big boost for our next two game (Sheffield United and Fulham) seeing that’s with both of them back we should be getting at least 4 points.

I think he’ll play JWP out wide, bring Diallo into CM and leave Theo up front.

It's a great sign for the club that players who used to be central to poor sides of the past are barely missed or at least peripheral. Redmond and Long have put in great effort for the club in the past and deserve to be part of the squad but I used to dread seeing their names together on the team sheet as you knew Saints would be struggling for goals. They are obviously good characters but if we are going to continue in the tops half they cannot be seen as regular starters.
