£50 Up For Grabs For The Best New Saints Song Monday, 19th May 2014 09:06
A member of The Ugly Inside message board community hedgeend61 is fed up with the lack of quality new songs in the repertoire so he has decided to do something about it.
Certain teams have some great songs, anyone who has heard Liverpool fans belt out a version of Scouser Tommy or Fields of Anfield Road to name but two examples from their song book or even Manchester United's varied output will know what I mean.
But in the main for the rest of us its about churning out the same songs that everyone else sings and just changing a few lyrics along the way.
hedgeend61 is hacked off with this and wants to change our culture and get the Northam End singing something a little more original every week, something that pertains only to Saints with original lyrics and with a tune that hasn't already been recycled by every other team in the league already.
This means that there needs to be a little thinking to be done.
In order to encourage those budding songwriters amongst you he is willing to put up a cash prize of £50 and for the best four runners up there will be an Ugly Inside T Shirt up for grabs.
The rules of the competition are simple.
1. The song & lyrics need to be original and not in common usage (Obviously the tune itself has to be well known, just not used before)
2. The competition closes on Monday June 9th at midnight.
3. The judges decision is final
4. hedgeend61 is putting up the £50 prize and we take no responsibility if he doesn't pay up lol
5. All entries must be posted on the official thread on the Ugly Inside message board
6. Other rules may be made up along the way.
7. The winning song must be about the club rather than individual players, although legends from the past can be incorporated, but the idea is a song that will last over the years.

I still stand by my proposal earlier in the year along the same lines.....
"The Bells of St. Mary's" is a 1917 popular song. The music was written by A. Emmett Adams, the lyrics[1] by Douglas Furber, following a visit to St. Mary's Church, Southampton, England.[2]
There could hardly be anything more appropriate?
It would have to be much faster than Bing's rendition below and I suggest the following lyrics:
The Saints of St Marys We always will love you With your inspiration We never will fail Saints fans will forever march with you together So proudly sing out, loudly sing out Saints Saints Saints
Today is gonna be the day That the Super Saints will come for you By now you should have realised That's exactly what we're gonna do We don't believe that anybody Feels the way we do about It now
And all the signs are there that we are shining And up the Premier league we'll go a climbing
Because maybe The Saints will be the team to save me Cos after all We play great football
Ahh, freak out The Saints The Saints Freak out Ahh, freak out The Saints The Saints Freak out
Have you heard about Southampton’s ways? Listen to us, I’m sure you’ll be amazed Big fun to be had by everyone So come on down to Southampton Young and old are doing it I’m told Just one try and you too will be sold We are The Saints, so march with us today Allow us, we’ll show you the way.
Ahh, freak out The Saints The Saints Freak out Ahh, freak out The Saints The Saints Freak out
We are Saints (to Rod Stewart's Sailing) -------------
We are Saints We are Saints here again, in red n white. We are scoring, from all angles, to defeat you, you will see. We are singing We are singing, ever louder, we will go We are singing, 'cause we're so proud, to be with you, S F C.
Can you hear us Can you hear us, thro' the dark times, we all stay. We are diehards, forever Saints, we are with you, all the way. Can you hear us Can you hear us, thro' the dark times, we all stay. We are diehards, forever Saints, we are with you, all the way.
We are Saints We are Saints here again, in red n white. We are Saints from St Marys, we'll defeat you, you will see.
Oh yes to defeat you, you will see Oh yes to defeat you, you will see . . .
One Love! One Heart! Let's get together and love the Saints. Hear the Saints chantin (One SAINTS); Hear the Saints Singing (One SAINTS), Sayin': give thanks and praise to the Saints and I will feel all right; Sayin': let's get together and love the Saints! SOUTHAMPTON!! SOUTHAMPTON!!
Bit late for the comp. but I've put together something to the tune of 'White Christmas' May have been tried elsewhere but not like this! Just a sample of verses below for this time of year but it can be changed from 'Christmas' depending on time of year....loads of potential..fast and slow works...
We're dreaming of a Red and White Christmas, cos that's our one only wish. When they shut the gates, keep out the Skates, cos we don't like the smell of fish.
We're dreaming of a Red and White Christmas, just like the ones we used to get. When we're crammed together in real crap weather, freezing cold and ' Kin wet.
We're dreaming of a Red and White Christmas, Cos Southampton is our club. Though we might hate losing, we'll soon be boozing, and talking bollocks in the pub!
Ran out of space above. It's one of those 'neverending' ones so have to be finished with the old 'Sou tham pton' chant. There's a couple of 'straight' verses if anyone's interested. P.S. Really hope their heads aren't screwed up after Sunday's game.
