And breathe... - Simon Dorset's annual deep dive into the accounts
at 10:22 27 Feb 2025

Thank you Simon and well done to the owners and Noury.

Those creative mainly owner sponsorship deals seem to have been the difference, just as we thought and hoped they would be. Just done in the nick of time too.

Nobody appeared to want to sponsor the ground etc so the owners put their hands in their pockets, again, and saved us from the wrath of the EFL.

The pïss stain coloured kit
at 10:29 25 Feb 2025

I'm not sure what the league's rules are or what say the ref may have on the day. However, 'wall's kit is a problem. It's such a dark shade of blue that it may be considered to clash with black.

Are we allowed to wear blue and white hoops against any team that wears a shade of blue?

When I was doing minor officiating, I would call blue ball or red ball etc. That causes confusion, as well as delays on play, when there are light blue and dark blue kits on the pitch.

For God's sake SE, nobody is saying he is a liar. Club interviews are PR exercises. That's why you are not going to find anything in them that you don't already know or they don't want you to know, for whatever reason.

Interviews with outside sources are also limited as they are mainly built on friendly relationships, so you won't get much from them either

I thought you would have grasped that by now, after being steered in that direction by plenty of other posters.

I accidentally upvoted this meant to just hit reply.

No one is fixating on kit over performance. It's a separate thread, separate discussion. We can comment or fixate on performance on several other threads.

We are passionate about our club and passionate about our kits.

Known knowns – Report
at 09:57 24 Feb 2025

You may think you know nothing Clive but a copy of your report should be sent to Marti (tactics and performance) and Noury (kit).
Btw Marti seemed to be having a right argument with their coach, in the presence of the 4th official, about their 'robust' tackling and probably the lack of control of the official in the middle.

Appalling refereeing. One think I do generally believe, in slight contrast to you Clive, is that referees let far too much go on, partly due to instructions on the interpretation of the laws of the game.
I totally get the letting the game flow desire but it has got totally out of hand.

I watch all our games home in the stand and usually away on a club stream (I'm overseas a lot) and I regularly watch MOTD etc.
I am amazed at some of the things that are considered 'not enough'. For me every shirt pull is a foul (cheating) and should be an instant yellow. Every push in the back is a foul and should be a free kick or penalty. Shoulder to shoulder is fine but not if the shoulder lands anywhere else. Blocking shouldn't be allowed, we are not playing American football.

I could go on with offside, handball etc but start with the above and we will ensure fairer play and help the skilful players and stamp out the cheating and thuggery.

Not sure if you have seen it live, Brian but I saw it pre season on some of our fans and maybe the team wore it as well.

I think it looks worse live than on a stream. If it was a better shade of yellow or gold it would be preferable. I agree on the hoops, yellow and white?

Can't have yellow and black as we can't be wasps, bees or hornets😂

I think Nobby would test the patience of refs in the modern game, just like our dear friend Samba Diakite did.

If Nobby was allowed to tackle in his usual style the likes of Zidane and Drogba would have retired much earlier and we would have been at war with France and a few other countries.

Thanks for the links, Nix. Very interesting, seems a hit as a player and comes over as a lovely young man. Hope he goes all the way in his career.

In 2018/19 Villa were 11th on 44 points after 33 games.

They drew the 34th game and then won ten on the spin, drew game 45 and lost game 46.

They finished 5th on 76 points, 3 points clear of 7th and went on to win the play offs.

It can happen and we can dream.😁

I think as of this moment he is worth considerably more than that.
I hope he carries on scoring till the end of the season. The value should be assessed then. Marti says that other clubs are enquiring about him.

Well-done Plymouth, and as we have already played you twice, now replicate that form, survive in your relegation battle, whilst taking three points off all the teams you play, that are lying from 5th to14th in the Championship.😁

That would be my preference, Brian but I think it's here to stay. With every match televised all incorrect decisions are highlighted. Opinions seem to be moving towards it with all these incidents occurring in the cups, when it isn't present.

I think we are going to have to live with some form of it, so let's make it better, more like it was 'sold' in the first place.

....and therin lies the problem.

The offside rule, that I played under and refed a bit with, would have given offside against all of them as soon as the ball is kicked. The current rule only gives a decision against a player when he becomes' active'. WTF are they doing on the pitch if they are not active?

No excuse for the error but I can see the confusion, trying to watch several players and determine if the one that plays the ball was one of those who were standing in an offside position.

As for VAR, it seems to be here to stay. So let's make it more sensible. Twenty seconds to make a decision, no stupid red and green lines, original decision stands unless it's clear and obvious.

Congrats to you both and thanks for your entertaining and sometimes bewildering posts over the years.

We like the Rod the former Mod version too.

Best wishes for a long and happy future.

I'm not sure either but do we ever offer a contract without an option? I can't see much logic in giving a player a year's deal only to then loan him to another club and, irrespective of how he performs, he can talk to other clubs in January and leave in July for free.

Unless, it was a belt and braces approach. We signed him before we knew what other strikers were available and knew we could recall him in January, if we had an injury crisis with the forwards.

I would imagine that there are some costs that are not being covered by Orient and that with our tight control on expense the above rational would be unlikely. Therefore I assume we have an option.

Take up the option, that I presume we have, see how he goes in pre season and early season and make a decision to offer an extension or sell.

Live footie vs streams/TV

It's pretty much the same for me, maybe one or two away games in a season.

I like to sit so going away is difficult as most tend to stand. I'm a similar size to most of our wide midfielders, so even if I stand, I can't see much.

Agree with your positives and negatives.

You can't see a lot of player movement off the ball on a stream and you don't have control of what you see.

It's a negotiation!

If we are asking for £3 million up front for him and he can walk for free in the summer, then I would expect it will be settled at £2 million and a bit. The rest, and more, could be made up with add ons for promotion.
