That 2001 team was pretty rank. I think it is why the 2003/4 season was so great. It really felt we had got our team back. Holloway was god. He’s a strange bloke in some ways but at the time he was just what we needed. Marti Cifuentes just might be the guy for us. I hope he gets the chance. |

They give you a badge or something similar to wear when you go in at the gate. No badges and they kick you out. |

That was a great video of Aonach Eagach, thanks for putting it up. There are so many other great scrambling/climbing routes in the highlands. My favourite was An Teallach-very memorable for Lord Berkeley’s Seat (look it up). I wimped out. Pinnacle Ridge on Skye is pretty full on too. |

One of my old chums was a huge Grimsby fan and he thought Alan Buckley should have been the England manager. |

Yes, I went to that game too. Thought Dykstra was decent and I still don’t know he was washed out. My worst team would be; Bankhole (that deep rooted fear whenever the ball went anywhere near him) Ready (unready would be nearer the mark) Warren (couldn’t pass or tackle) Malcom (the slowest centre back I have ever seen-just edges out Gus Caesar) Assou-Ekotto (the most uninterested player ever) Park Jie Sung (terminally crocked) Can’t remember his name-the guy who was nicking stuff from the dressing room (for team spirit purposes) Iorfa(did his hamstring on the first run he made) Wright Phillips (taking the money under false pretences) Hateley (introduced to the crowd on crutches and it didn’t get any better) Koejoe (looked like Les Ferdinand while they were standing still) Manager; Redknapp |

I fondly remember her as Betsy Trotwood in a BBC David Copperfield. Despite a rather starry cast she stood out. |

I seem to recall the facilities in the away end at (old) Plough Lane were not pleasant. |

I saw that programme a few days ago as well. I spotted it on iPlayer and put it on. Very sad news about ‘Toto’. |

Have been a few times (also before the wall came down). The Pergamon Museum is a must see. If you can spare a whole day take the S Bahn to Potsdam and visit Sans Soucci. There is a frequent shuttle bus from Potsdam Hbf (main station). Prenzlauer Berg area for the hipster bars. If you can manage to book it, the dome above the Reichstag (parliament building). Ed found a really fun bar near Friedrichstrasse station that had a trading room vibe. The beer prices kept changing and every so often there would be a ‘market crash’ with all beers about 2/3 off. Brilliant. Enjoy! |

I wonder what the attendance was. The Gallowgate End rather sparsely populated. When did the roof disappear at the Leazes End? I noticed there were no railings at the front. You could just run on to the pitch-ax a few of them did at the end. Thanks for putting this up. A great trip down memory lane. |

Went to the first game at Wembley and a Gisnts game in NY. It’s not for me. Goes on too long and you can’t really see what’s going on. Also in both cases the game just petered out as the winning side wasted time. And it was bond jarring cold in NY and poured down at Wembley. Baseball is my US sport. Ticked up 5 parks now and I love it. |
| Forum Reply | First Cinema you saw a film in? at 10:49 4 Sep 2024
Somewhere in Brighton (we were visiting grandparents in Seaford) in 1964 or thereabouts for Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. It was the first film my mother had ever seen as well. |

Placed a £1bet at a work event in the 1998 World Cup- England to beat Egypt 2-0 and Shearer to score first. Collected £28. That was the last football bet I ever placed. Or ever will place, come to that. David Elleray, Alan Smith (the Arsenal one) and Garry Nelson were the guests. All really nice guys. That was a great day. |

The equaliser against Sheffield United was not a bad one to sign off with. He’s no Marco Van Basten but I always appreciated the effort he put in. Good luck to him. |

Lots of great drives in the Scottish Highlands but perhaps my favourite is the drive in up the A82 from Glasgow. Wherever you are going to end up, this is always the exciting prelude to any trip there. |

I couldn’t finish The Hobbit. Got about 300 pages in and realised I couldn’t care less about any of the characters. Don’t start me on Lord of the Rings either (I quite liked the films though). I disagree with the earlier poster who dissed War and Peace. One of my all time favourites. When I first read it I sat up to 3 am every night for a week. I’d then wake up the following morning with the book lying on the floor next to the bed and would have to go back 50 pages to where I remembered getting to. |
