![](/images/avatars/0.gif) | News Comment | Are Things Far From Ok In The Southampton Camp ? at 17:33:52
Overall a fair assessment Nick and would not disagree with much of it. It all feels like it is spiraling out of control now. There are factions in the team and at all levels. The manager instead of uniting the team is adding fuel to the fire of a disgruntled bunch - compare him to the Plymouth Argyle appointment. There is no sense of the club being steered in a sound direction. SR are at best reactive rather than pro-active and just seem to be going from one crisis to the next or by their repeat dreadful decisions creating a crisis after crisis............in fact, you start wondering if they have any honourable intentions when it comes to SFC. I probably won't be going to any more games this season - that feels sad, but I don't see the point - to support what exactly? A bunch of players that gave up when Burnley scored? A manager who seems to be dismantling what little team spirit we had? An owner who has managed to turn our club into an embarrassment on and off the pitch? It takes alot of work to earn a salary - why should I spend it on or continue to fuel this mess? When we got promoted, I knew it would be difficult. I expected relegation. I think most supporters did. But, really, did we expect the name of our club and all it stands for to be reduced to this shambles..........and do you know what?..................for the life of me, I cannot see when or where or how it will end and turn around. I have seen many relegations, the administration, but I have never felt as low about the club I support as I do now. |
![](/images/avatars/0.gif) | News Comment | Who Killed The Magic Of The FA Cup for Southampton at 17:32:38
The death of domestic cup competitions started to take hold the year that they decided that Manchester Utd did not have to play in the FA Cup. From that moment on, the domestic cup competitions have declined. The constant tinkering of the FA cup since then has made it lose the magic and meaning. |
![](/images/avatars/0.gif) | News Comment | Southampton V Ipswich Town The Verdict at 12:04:41
A win is a win and after waiting for one for so long it is a welcome feeling however it may have been achieved. But, it does not fool me. Both sides were poor and are poor and the 3 sides that came up are now almost certain to go back down. It would be nice though to at least get a couple of more wins to avoid that awful label of being the worst side to grace the PL. |

You make some valid points Monksway but I will slightly take issue around the comment on the Play Off final. I did not actually want to make the Play Off's. For me, you either go up by getting the points needed to be promoted or you don't go up. But, cometh the day of the play off final, I loved the day and as did my son. The atmosphere, the winning, the joy afterwards etc was a rare day in the sun as a Saints fan (though it actually rained). I wouldn't want to take that away. If you can't enjoy those moments, then when can you enjoy it. That said, I certainly did not think for one moment that that we would suddenly be a PL side. I actually thought we would be relegated and I think most Saints fans did, even those that went to Wembley - what I did not expect us to be, is as poor as we have been. What I hoped is that we would at least make a fist of it and make the opposition work for their wins - all too often we haven't. Then if we went back down (as was likely and is now definite) we did so with pride instead we are probably going down as the worst PL side ever to have graced it - which I hate as a fan. I can take losing, I can take relegation (I have seen a few now) but for heavens sake I expect some pride and fight in those running and playing for the club. So there was no false dawn for me or most Saints fans on that day at Wembley, rather realism. What is sickening is how bad we have been. |
![](/images/avatars/0.gif) | News Comment | Southampton At Nottingham Forest The Verdict at 11:40:18
The first half display was pretty shocking to be honest and some of our so called experienced established players put in an embarrassing performance - particularly Downes and Armstrong. Downes has been poor this season and he is a red card waiting to happen. I can see why West Ham did not rate him. Armstrong is just so weak and ineffective at this level. None of the 3 goals that Forest scored should have happened, but equally we offered nothing as an attacking force - 1 shot towards the end of the first half. Second half was much better but in truth it could not have been much worse. At least though we showed some fighting spirit but we also rode our luck and I actually think Forest's disallowed goal was a poor VAR decision. But, those that came on subs made a difference whereas the subs at Man U had the opposite effect. It was good to be there to see Tall Paul score and those last 10-15 mins were actually quite exciting. Quite why Juric started with Downes and Armstrong is a mystery to me Forest players certainly play the dark arts and spend alot of time on the floor but we know to expect that. Taylor is awful as Ref. There appeared to be universal disdain for him from both sets of supporters. I see some grains of hope for next season but I really can't wait for this one to end. I cannot see where the next point will come from. It looks like we are going to have another unwanted record to our history. A word for the supporters. What a good following on a Sunday afternoon given where we are in the league and how poor we are to watch. I am surprised so many stayed for the 2nd half but those of us that did (which was the majority) will have been glad that they did. |

To be honest, it is all a lot of words and not much else. In fact, getting a little tired of the players trotting out this cr@p. Thus far nothing has improved since RM has left. It wasn't great under RM and it hasn't been great since - especially against Brentford where the players went AWOL and did not even do the basics that you would expect any player to do irrespective of who the manager is. Show some bl**dy fight and passion and real effort on the pitch and play as if the club and fans mean something. Your words to the media mean naff all. |

![](/images/avatars/0.gif) | News Comment | Southampton At Crystal Palace The Verdict at 13:32:16
The question many pundits, commentators, social media, etc are asking is this the worst side to have graced the PL? Sadly it is looking like it as I cannot see anything positive to suggest anything is going to change. I think Brentford on Saturday is almost critical solely from the point that fail to win that against a side that has not won away and where on earth do you get your points from. I can see a scenario now, post Brentford where the stadium will be significantly empty on match days and players just won't bother because why risk injuries etc for a foregone conclusion. I don't want us to be the worst side to grace the PL and I want us to exceed the Derby Co record but even that is now starting to look a forlorn hope. I hate to say all this as there have been low times in the past but I really am struggling to see any hope, even a glimmer of one. |

Hopefully and before judgement can be passed, this appointment will ultimately prove to be a stroke of genius. I think we all have doubts but we will equally want to be proved wrong. But, if ultimately it proves to be the wrong decision, I think it is SR that needs to be placed under pressure. But, lets see. Fingers crossed and all that. |
![](/images/avatars/0.gif) | News Comment | Europa League Side Preparing January Bid For Southampton Forward at 14:58:28
Pointing out that Onuachu has barely had an attempt on goal is hardly unique for any of our forwards. We didn't have a simple attempt on goal at Villa on Saturday and he was not playing and Armstrong - as good as he is at Championship level may score an odd goal now and then but on the whole is largely ineffective at PL level. |
![](/images/avatars/0.gif) | News Comment | Southampton At Wolverhampton Wanderers The Preview at 12:24:48
I hate to say it but I think we will lose and we will be bottom. Yes, we beat Everton though it was a close game and not alot in it - but we were marginally better than Everton. If I am not mistaken Wolves have not yet won - we are good at 2 things - gifting teams an opportunity to break a bad run and gifting players a goal that have not scored for ages or before. I have been to Wolves a few times and never seen us win - not a place I enjoy going. I hope I am very wrong and made to eat humble pie. |
![](/images/avatars/0.gif) | News Comment | Southampton V Everton The Preview at 11:31:39
Fail to win against Everton (even a draw is not acceptable) and I will be resigned to relegation. I think I am resigned to it anyway but I suppose today there remains a flickering ember of hope within me. Heading south today. |
![](/images/avatars/0.gif) | News Comment | Southampton V Stoke City The Carabao Cup Preview at 09:57:57
I suspect RM will not play his strongest side and I suspect he does not really believe it is the most important game of the season but I do suspect the Southampton PR and Marketing team will have asked him or instructed him not to downplay the importance of the game in fear of a near empty stadium if he does........or am I just being cynical again?........probably! |
![](/images/avatars/0.gif) | News Comment | Southampton At Manchester City The Preview at 17:43:57
Agree JoeEgg. If Pep or Slot or Arteta are praising our team it is not usually a good sign. I am going tomorrow but will also be seeing my son and going for a meal afterwards so the football is likely to just be a side show that will soon be forgotten. You always have that feint hope that a surprise may happen but you know it won't. |
![](/images/avatars/0.gif) | News Comment | Graham Potter Ready To Return To Management at 09:15:30
Potter will be in a job somewhere else by the time our board etc have decided that they have no option but to make a change. As much as I would like him to come to us, I just don't see it happening. |
![](/images/avatars/0.gif) | News Comment | Southampton Board Said To Have Set Deadline Day For Russell Martin at 11:05:12
I have never understood this football owner/management thing where supposedly the outcome of a managers future is decided by a single match or 2 matches or whatever criteria the said club or owner takes. So what happens if a manager wins the said game having lost copious amounts of previous games, so gets to stay but then loses the next 1, 2, 3 or 5 games. What happens if they draw games or say lose to a Man City 5-4 and put in a great performance? It is a bonkers approach. As an organisation you make decisions based on performance but in the overall picture not by a single act. You either have a vision of what you have and how you want things to progress and decide whether the person that you have put in place to try and meet that vision is likely to get you there. I have no idea what SR vision is - my hunch is, that they did not expect to be in the PL this season and they have a championship outlook which frankly is where we are heading back to but it is what their vision and ambition is beyond that. For the fans, for the players that want to achieve things, for the media that judge you as a side, and to some extent for the financial future of a club it is about results on the pitch and in that respect we are failing week in and week out. To be honest, I think if SR was going to willingly dispose of RM and have someone lined up to replace him they would have done it by now (in much the same way as Cortese did - whether you like what he did or not). They are either just kicking the proverbial Can down the road in the hope things will change because they do not have a plan B or don't want to make the change or they are hoping the decision will be almost made for them. |
![](/images/avatars/0.gif) | News Comment | Southampton At Portsmouth The Women's Game Verdict at 12:59:46
I note the following comment in your verdict - if I didn't know better I could be reading about many of our men's first team verdicts here:- But it was not a high standard, there were some good moments and some well worked moves, but overall there was a lack of control on the ball and a lack of an end product on two many occasions. |
