That wasn't a 3-1 game.
The first goal was a cross from their right, after the winger beat Kev Mc (again). Platt got highest and headed it downwards, Lillis got a strong hand to it but could only push it in the side netting.
Our goal was a low ball in from the left, JK turned and stabbed it in.
We thought that we could push on then, but we didn't. They got a corner up at the other end and after an almighty scramble, Langmead wheeled away in celebration.
The third was Kev Mc getting beat AGAIN. Hackett drove into the box and got sandwiched (from the look of it) and went down. Akinfatlad sent Lillis the wrong way.
All in all, we got in some good positions but couldn't do anything with them. We looked poor defensively.
Lillis - 7. Did okay, maybe could have saved the first. Didn't do much else wrong although it was hard to see the scramble at the other end for their second.
Rafferty - 6. Okay defensively but poor going forward.
Cb's - 6. Bullied by Platt and Akinfenwa.
Kev Mc - 4. Don't think he tackled their winger. Awful.
SCS - 7. Coasted along in the game, but switched the play really well a few times.
Tutte - 8. Looked good until he picked up a knock.
JK - 8. My MOM.
Donnelly - 7. Same old story.
Gornell - 6. Nothing happened for him.
Haworth -5. The worst delivery from corners I think I've seen. No end product at all.
Grimes - 7. Battled but couldn't change much.
Cav and Logan didn't really have the chance to impact. |  |

team wise, we did alright and for periods of the game, we were the better side despite having 2 or 3 of our side who just weren't at the races today. I don't recall many chances that Northampton had other than the goals. What we were trying to do was certainly working, and on more than one occasion during the game, I wondered how much more effective we'd have been with Grant in the side. SCS playing that defensive midfielder role worked well, and whilst McIntyre played like it was a season too far for him, we looked more solid in the middle.
Dunno if someone in the Dale end had been giving Platt some grief, but he gave a right nasty stare towards someone in the away end after his goal. |  | | |

I thought we were probably the better side today and certainly didn't deserve to lose, especially not by two goals. Northampton were pretty defensive which was surprising when you see how many goals they've scored this season. Although, to be fair, they only really needed to venture into our penalty area a few times and they knew they'd score, so fragile has our defence become.
It's not often Donnelly is the best of our front 3, but he was today. Gornell was completely anonymous, and Haworth, well, I don't think I've ever seen a display of such constantly poor set-piece deliveries.
