Alternative end of season awards 20:14 - Apr 21 with 4242 views442Dale

Yeah, there's a couple of games to go, but now that relegation is confirmed the season is as good as over so thought we might as well vote on some awards for the 11/12 season.

Appreciate people might not remember or want to vote on some of the random categories chucked in there, but I'll even try and collate the results at some stage so that winners (and losers) can receive their awards. Not that they'll actually get anything. Feel free to justify selections with reasons.

Not having seen many games can't really comment, but is number 20 a fair question to ask at least until July?

YOU do not have the right to give someone else permission to tell me what I can and can't do.

Dale:
1. Player of the year - Jason Kennedy

2. Most improved player - JLAA. He's become someone we can rely on to not only give 100%, but also produce something. As seen today, even though we also saw again that he doesn't suit the lone frontman role.

3. Worst player - Benali. He was given a build up that in no way resembled what he could offer. He might have some tricks, but he'd be anonymous in a Sunday league match.

4. Most disappointing player - Jones. Not all his own fault because of the way all three managers left him out in the pitch without a break. Games not only passed him by at times, but he was getting frustrated as even the basics were a struggle.

5. Best signing - Kevin Long. A class act who will be starring in the Championship next year. Genuinely looked to be have an affinity for the club too.

6. Worst signing - Barnes-Homer. We were looking to get Ball in anyway so should have coped with what we had rather than this nobody. If it had been a month he could have been classed as a stop-gap, only Eyre would get him in until January.

7. Goal of the season - Grimes at Huddersfield.

8. Best performance - Bury at home. By a very, very long way.

9. Worst performance - Stevenage was bad, but Hartlepool away was terrible against a side devoid of confidence who posed little threat.

Opponents:
10. Best opposition team - Sheff Utd

11. Worst opposition team - Bury. They looked no different to the side we hammered at Spotland in the promotion season. They capitulated so easily against us, but obviously did enough elsewhere so can't be that bad.

12. Best opposition player - Tranmere midfielder James Wallace, absolutely ran the show.

13. Worst opposition player - Clark Carlisle. Laughably bad.

14. Best opposition fans - Sheff Utd

15. Worst opposition fans - Notts County, they really do not travel well.

The rest:
16. Best away day - Bury

17. Messageboard poster of the year - lovecity. Absolute dedication to speaking shite.

18. Best messageboard thread - any which included advice on away travel. Always have different alternatives, even pre-plan A.

1. Player of the year - JLAA

2. Most improved player - JLAA

3. Worst player - MBH

4. Most disappointing player - Trottman. He got some pretty good reviews in pre-season. When the season arrived I wondered whether I was watching a different player.

5. Best signing - Long. Pleeeaaaase come back next year!

6. Worst signing - Twaddle. For a permanent player to actually only make 1 (I think) league appearance all season is just shocking.

7. Goal of the season - Tutte at Hudds.

8. Best performance - Bury at home.

9. Worst performance - Hartlepool away. I've never seen a performance so devoid of all hope and passion. And this was the week before the Stevenage mauling!

I always wondered what relegation would feel like - it hurts and hurts too much to think about this too much but here goes.

Dale:
1. Player of the year - JK

2. Most improved player - JLAA

3. Worst player - MBH (Really?!, Really?!, Really?!)

4. Most disappointing player - Grimes (Natural goalscoring ability up there with the best we've ever had. Very comparable to Alfie, hopefully one of them in the prem next year and one in the Evo Stik Prem)

5. Best signing - Won't name loan players as they're not really signings, so permanent signings only and they've all been very poor. I'll go for Tutte

6. Worst signing - Twaddle

7. Goal of the season - Thompson last week (can't think further back than that.)

8. Best performance - Coleman's first game

9. Worst performance - Stevenage home, don't think I've ever seen a team so desperately not trying for a manager

Opponents:
10. Best opposition team - Sheff United

11. Worst opposition team - Bury

12. Best opposition player - Wilson for Stevenage (or possibly Trotman v Oldham)

13. Worst opposition player - Neil Mellor

14. Best opposition fans - Sheff United

15. Worst opposition fans - Sheff Wed

The rest:
16. Best away day - Not been to many at all so Preston just pips Tranmere (the postponed game)

17. Messageboard poster of the year - johncoleman2012

18. Best messageboard thread - The Wrestling one

1. JLAA
2. JLAA
3. Barnes-Homer (obviously no scouting effort went into that signing.
).
4. Bogdanovic after his debut.
5. Long.
6. Trotman (Dawsons replacement and not even fit to clean CD's boots!)
7.Grimes' header Vs Charlton.
8. The first 15mins Vs bury away (3 goals and the woodwork rattled twice).
9. Yeovil at home (a game that was there to be won against a team that produced one of the worst displays ever seen at Spotland).

10. Sheffield United
11. bury
12 Kuqui (just for the goal)
13. Sodje

Dale:
1. Player of the year
JLAA

2. Most improved player
JLAA - Greater consistency whilst retaining an element of unpredictability. His pace will present a real threat to defenders in League 2, hopefully he will continue to improve his finishing.

3. Worst player
Barnes-Homer - Represents all that was bad about the Eyre reign.

4. Most disappointing player
Grimes - Most frustrating player. Bigger names have arrived and disappointed, but the quality Grimes showed in flashes makes you wonder what could have been if he'd got a run of games.

5. Best signing
Bogdanovic - Only saw him play one, but he showed the real class which we've lacked this year.

6. Worst signing
Barnes-Homer

7. Goal of the season
Grimes v Huddersfield

8. Best performance
Bury Away (first 15 minutes)

9. Worst performance
Wycombe Away - Again illustrative of everything that has been wrong this season. We went without a plan, comic defending against a very average side, lacking fight and posing little attacking threat. To top it all off, substitute players on the sideline were talking to fans about how they knew Beech would be sacked after the game and Coleman was coming in. Why on earth send the team out with Beech in charge if that's the case?

Opponents:
10. Best opposition team
Huddersfield

11. Worst opposition team
Bury - How they stayed up I will never know. Capitulated under pressure even worse than we do.

12. Best opposition player

13. Worst opposition player

14. Best opposition fans

Dale:
1. Player of the year - Kennedy, only player who has been a model of consistency.

2. Most improved player - JLAA, gone from being a fringe player to our best and most hard working striker.

3. Worst player - Jones, been terrible all season, can only pass sidewards or back. Doesn't seem to have the same passion he used to.

4. Most disappointing player - Grimes, expected a 20 goal season from him this year and all we got was a few goals and an awful lot of petulance.

5. Best signing - Darby (loan) - Played well and been consistent in the team when not injured.

6. Worst signing - Barnes-Homer/McConville, 2 players brought in on loan from NON-LEAGUE clubs that have had 0 impact in any of the games they have played.

7. Goal of the season - Grimes @ Huddersfield

8. Best performance - Bury @ Home. Is there any other good ones!?

9. Worst performance - Sheff United @ Home. Torn several new rectums.

Opponents:
10. Best opposition team - Sheff United. Showed why we will be in League Two and how they could be in the Championship.

11. Worst opposition team - Bury. Beat them twice this season so they MUST be bad!

12. Best opposition player - Rhodes. Several classes above anyone we've had since Holt & Lambert.

13. Worst opposition player - Taylor (Oldham) - All he does is moan at the ref every time he blows his whistle.

14. Best opposition fans - Sheff United, conducted theirselves well and didn't go too overboard after battering us.

15. Worst opposition fans - Bury

The rest:
16. Best away day - Bury, we only won 2 so there isn't many to choose from!

Dale:
1. Player of the year

Jason Kennedy, not many who can challenge him

2. Most improved player

Jean Louis Akpa-Akpro, one of the few positives of this season

3. Worst player

Matthew Barnes-Homer, why even sign him? Reece Gray would have been a much better option! Truly one our worst ever loan signings

4. Most disappointing player

Ashley Grimes, yes, he's our top scorer and has the ability but his petulance and apparent lack of effort isn't what any of us wanted to see from him. Expect a massive improvement next season.

5. Best signing

Kevin Long, top quality defender and without him, we'd have been down in February.

6. Worst signing

Neal Trotman, good signing on paper but he was woeful, I've still not forgiven him for that performance against Oldham. Honourable mentions for Marc Twaddle, Simon Hackney, Jake Kean, Roland Bergkamp, Nathan Eccleston, Ahmad Benali and obviously, Matthew Barnes-Homer

7. Goal of the season

Gary Jones v QPR, absolutely fabulous finish

8. Best performance

Bury at home, followed by QPR away

9. Worst performance

Tranmere at home, followed by Yeovil away and Oldham away.

Opponents:
10. Best opposition team

Sheffield United, by a long way

11. Worst opposition team

Bury, by a long way

12. Best opposition player

James Wallace (Tranmere)

13. Worst opposition player

Harry Bunn (Oldham)

14. Best opposition fans

15. Worst opposition fans

Dale:
1. Player of the year - Jean-Louis Akpa-Akpro for me. Not seen all the games by any stretch but every game I've attended he has given his all, worked hard, tried to play good football, and popped up with a goal or 2.

2. Most improved player- Andrew Tutte has been one of our better performers in the closing stages of the season.

3. Worst player - Neal Trotman. Useless, no two ways about it.

4. Most disappointing player - Daniel Bogdanovic. He showed so much promise against Preston and was awful for the rest of his spell.

5. Best signing - Kevin Long. If we somehow manage to get some more of him next season we'll be alright.

6. Worst signing - Ahmad Benali. What was the point?

7. Goal of the season - Loved Grimes' equaliser at Huddersfield. Cracking effort.

8. Best performance - Either of the Bury games.

9. Worst performance - Stevenage. *Shivers*

Opponents:

10. Best opposition team - Sheffield United

11. Worst opposition team - Bury.

12. Best opposition player - Luke Freeman (Stevenage)

13. Worst opposition player - Efe Sodje (Bury)

14. Best opposition fans - Sheffield United.

15. Worst opposition fans - Walsall fans really wound me up for some reason.

The rest:
16. Best away day - Preston. Great ground, good performance, good atmosphere.

17. Messageboard poster of the year - Rkershaw.

18. Best messageboard thread - That one last week where 'John Coleman' popped up. Genius.

19. Out of ten, rate each manager: Eyre 3 Beech 2 and Coleman 6

Dale:
1. Player of the year - Difficult, I'd say either Jean-Louis Akpra Akpro or Jason Kennedy. Diffrent positions, but both have been great this season.

2. Most improved player - Thompson has shown good improvement (cross fingers he can take that and improve more next season) and again Jean Louis Akpra Akpro.

3. Worst player - Lucas, for me he hasn't been fantastic inbetween the post and I still can't get my head around him being first choice keeper and goal keepers coach -surely he couldn't have been training himself in net?

4. Most disappointing player - Grimes, I feel really let down considering all the good things I heard about him off a Lincon fan, his moods and attitude towards the game, club and fans has been appualing, I'll be dissapointed if he stays and plays next season.

5. Best signing - Kurucz, without doubt the best keeper I've seen on our pitch, Beech deserves a massive thank you for bringing him to our club and cross fingers we can sign him when he's fit or get someone just as good.

6. Worst signing - Grimes, same reasons as before and I know I seem to have a vendetta against him, but I do not see him being any better next season... nor want to see him next season.

7. Goal of the season - Gary Jones vs QPR, what magical little chip!

8. Best performance - Bogdanovic, although only a loan, I was very impressed when he first played for us. Although I cannot recall the game, I remember being very pleased by his ability.
ALSO Minihan deserves a mention -cross fingers he can perform as he did more next season.

9. Worst performance - Too many to chose from.

Opponents:
10. Best opposition team - Tranmere, always had a soft spot for thier fans and their team, did very well against us too.

11. Worst opposition team - Not many teams that we've been able to say have been worse than ourselves, but the preston game sticks out in my mind, I feel we should of really won that game and their deffending was poor... ironic I know.

12. Best opposition player - Nakiah Wells for Bradford City, although not in league 1, his run and strike against us in the FA cup was fantastic. It wasn't just a quick spark of magic either as many other league 2 fans have admiration for him. Look forward to watching him next season.

13. Worst opposition player - Can't really think of anyone, so I'l say Sodjie, but with quite abit of love for him too, he does love the banter.

14. Best opposition fans - Sheff Utd, great respect for us and didn't hate us and destroy our stands... unlike Wendy Owl fans.

15. Worst opposition fans - Wendesday and (because of recent antics) bUry.

The rest:
16. Best away day - Bury, I wasn't expecting much from that game, but it turned out to be such a wonderful game and the atmosphere was brilliant from the fans.

17. Messageboard poster of the year - Dalelover123456789, for constantly reinventing himself

18. Best messageboard thread - Can't chose, because there are some brilliant ones at the moment.

19. Out of ten, rate each manager: Eyre, Beech and Coleman -
Eyre 2/10 - Simple really.

Beech 7/10 - Wasn't really given a chance, but brought some good signings in his short time -n charge.

Coleman 7/10 - because I'm yet to see what he can do when he has the freedom and ability to bring in the team he wants, but so far I'm happy.

20. What position do you think we'll finish next season (give a place rather than "top half"etc) - I'd have to see the team first, but I'd like us to finish 1st...obviously!

Opponents:

Dale:

19. Out of ten, rate each manager: Eyre, Beech and Coleman - 2, 3, 5

20. What position do you think we'll finish next season (give a place rather than "top half") - 10th.

Been trying to find some time to do this... here goes...

Player of the year: Jason Kennedy

Most improved player: JLAA with Tutte an honourable second.

Worst player. So many to choose from. Most of the loanees have been pants, but Hackney and Twaddle have been utterly pointless, and have taken a wage all season for nowt.

Most disappointing player. Grimes. Without a shadow of a doubt. He can do it all but is so annoying. Must be a nightmare to manage him.

Best signing. Tutte by some distance. Best loan player. Long by some distance.

Worst signing. Hackney & Twaddle (see above) Worst loanee: MBH.

Goal of the season. Tutte vs Huddersfield and JT against Exeter. Can't split them.

Best performance: bury at home

Worst performance. Stevenage home. Terrible.

Best opponents: Didn't see Sheff Utd, so therefore, Stevenage.

Worst opposition : bury

Best opposition player: Stevenage's bearded fullback (Laurie Wilson?). Fantastic display.

Worst opposition player. Can't believe no-one else has gone for possibly the worst player I've seen in years!!! Phil Picken from bury. Made Simpkins look class. Out of position more often than the DJ at the bar.

Best opposition fans: Carlisle. Always fantastic support.

Worst opposition fans: Yeovil. Shhhhhh!!!!

Best away day. Can't say I've enjoyed any particularly. Very unimpressed by Hillsborough, so probably Huddersfield.

Best poster. PDiddy. No matter how stupid our fans can be, here is an object lesson in taking it further. Cheers me up.

Honourable mention for SFD. Hard to be so outspoken consistantly, but he tries hard!!!

Best thread. The couple of hundred or so where TVOS tries to hide his secret passion for Kiss. Not that it's easy to get a bite out of him.

Out of ten: rate each Manager:

Eyre 2

Beech 1 (actually managed to be worse than Eyre...a feat that was close to impossible).

Coleman 6 Been very impressed sometimes...unimpressed other times.

Prediction for next season: 12th.

When I was your age, I used to enjoy the odd game of tennis. Or was it golf?
