Andy Belk on 16:16 - Nov 22 with 846 views | rbee | David Pleat was on Talksport earlier this week and recruitment was a subject discussed. David said that most clubs are dismissing Scouts these days and are using and relying on stats and analytics a lot more. As a young guy you can imagine Christian Nourry embracing technology and taking a more modern approach to player recruitment. Hopefully Nourry will now have a rethink on that. The club could have given someone 300 quid and a Eurostar ticket to travel to Antwerp to actually watch Madsen play and we might have avoided a 4 million Championship dud.
Andy Belk on 17:48 - Nov 22 with 728 views | BklynRanger | Not criticising the discussion by any means, but I've had enough of thinking about this question now. Whichever collection of slobbering gimps gets selected tomorrow I want them to find a way, fair means or foul, to score 2 goals. That's all I want. Two goals at home. For the second time in 18 games.
Andy Belk on 19:12 - Nov 22 with 660 views | baz_qpr | None of our issues are the outcome of a single transfer window they are cumulative over a 3 year period. The striker issue has been going on for years and for years a bog standard 10 goal a season striker will set you back the best part of £5m and the academies in this country are not developing strikers just hoards of 10s our FFP position makes it nigh impossible to pay for a striker and everything has to be a gamble either on an unknown or a career resurrection.
Andy Belk on 06:25 - Nov 23 with 433 views | bongo_king | The problem with the data approach is there is no metric to measure attitude / culture or team fit. All our data-based failures fall into the group of "good stats, but bad attitude / culture / poor fit" (Dozzell being the poster boy). This summer signings were basically all data based and sure enough... Ironic that the one thing Ainsworth did was prioritise culture over data with his signings, and a year on we are still pretty reliant on his signings. Belk IMO should have learnt this lesson by now... stats alone are not enough... and certainly he has to learn from this summers intake otherwise he's basically a liability. But IMO Nourry has to take a lot of blame for me for sanctioning big fees based entirely on data with no regard for culture or fit.

Andy Belk on 14:45 - Nov 22 by daveB | Yeah i don't want to start a witch hunt on Belk, I'm sure hes doing his best but he's been in that role a long time and I'm not sure he deserves another window to get it right. The most damning thing I can say about the recruitment side is on the forwards. Since we went down in 2015 we've signed tons of forwards and for a lot of money likes of Washington, Bonne, Dykes, Sylla, Celar etc The best ones in that time have either been loans like Wells and Hugil, players coming back to the club for a 2nd spell like Austin or the most successful of the ones we spent money on was arguably Matt Smith and he was used as a sub for a lot of his time here. Thats an appalling record There is a strong case to say that all 3 of Belk, Ciffuentes and Nourry should be packing up their desks |
Good point. The failure to recruit even one decent striker over the course of a decade should make his position untenable. However, while success has many fathers, failure is an orphan...
