Just another Yank who has been lurking since BB started. Still lurking now that he's rightfully gone. I've been a football fan, player and now coach of my three sons.

I say all of this because while I know that most of you won't care, I have become a serious admirer of the community that you folks have developed. I am envious of the passion that I see in the threads I read and can only hope that one day my little town develops the same feelings for our local club that I have been a part of since 1989.

I watch all the Premiere matches every weekend and will now be following Swansea in hopes that you folks stay afloat this season. If not, I will be following in the Championship. I've been following the team I adopted years ago (Newcastle) hoping to be able to see them play next season.

Keep fighting for your club...With all sincerity, Jason

Welcome to Planet Swans Jason. Good to hear you'll support us IF we get relegated. I wish I could say the same for 50% of the supporters who'll be there to watch Swans v Arsenal tomorrow. YJB.

Great opening post Jason.

I think a lot of the post sacking hostility from the American fans was simply down to them not realising what the club means to the community, what football clubs at whatever level mean to their local communities throughout the UK. Don't blame them at all, as the culture surrounding sport seems to be far more clinical over there.

I'm glad you could see through some of the stick Bob took and realise the vast majority of it was out of frustration as we could see he was damaging our club, which indirectly affects the city as a whole, simply by not being up to the job. I wish it had been focussed more on his coaching ability and less on his nationality. I can completely understand why a lot of Americans see us as hostile, insular xenophobes off the back of it, but that honestly isn't the case.

Thanks for seeing through it and coming to respect the community and camaraderie we feel as supporters of our local club.

I think American fans can grasp what Swansea City means to the community. Our sports culture here is quite varied from region to region, and you can find some places that feel about the local pro (and/or college) sports teams the way South Wales feels about the Swans.

The problem was that they simply didn't grasp how awful BB performed in his role, and how the quality was quickly spiraling downward. That, and the hints of "anti-American" bias towards Bob early on from the idiots in the UK media were projected onto the supporters and the club.

I've seen a few Americans defending BB use the argument that the club had awful results early in the season and BB's results weren't any worse. That of course doesn't take into account how (on paper) the fixtures were much more difficult before he arrived.

And don't forget the performances under Guidolin were better too, especially the Liverpool game, after which he was sacked, and we didn't leak anywhere near the number of goals under the Italian.

Or how badly we were beaten in most of the games under Bob.

Fair point. I'm probably guilty of judging the majority of American fans by the few nuggets who came on here aggressively proclaiming how good Bob was and how we were lucky to have him. Anyone who supports an individual player or manager (or series of individual players and managers) just because they share a nationality is a little weird to be. Those guys just saw us as a franchise or a stepping stone on Bobs ascent to world domination and had no idea about supporting a club or its community.

It's probably fair to assume that there were a lot of American fans who completely got why we wanted him out and what the club means to some of the locals. They just didn't make a big noise about it

It's also probably fair to assume that their little snapshot of Swansea fans is a bunch of juvenile xenophobes. Maybe football message boards aren't the best place to form opinions!

Unless you mean 'feel for the swans' at both ends of the passion spectrum i suggest you don't include all of South Wales.

Of course, there are always anomalies and one of those is Bluey!

Truth is in some leagues you -CAN- do alright leaking goals. There's not many 0-0 and 0-1 scorelines in the MLS-- which is probably do with many US Sporting types, tend to frown on Football because people don't score enough-- so Defence is probably not high on the priority.

As to Americans, there was a tiny bit of sense spoken about us in relation to BB on Men in Blazers, but it was mostly, "they are in a relegation fight, so they hit the panic button" or something of the like. But honestly most of my 'soccer pals' here were ready slag on the Bradley sacking as well. I really chalk it up to an American perspective, and how much it sucks to have a countryman get a shot for global recognition and end up not being ready yet.

You can get away with conceding 3 every game if you score 3 every game I suppose. 3 and 4 goal defeats don't work anywhere.

Your post kind of sums him up. He was an MLS level manager.

Honestly I think that the problem is that most US 'soccer' fans, saw the sacking of Bradley as a personal insult, to them as apposed to really seeing what the situation is, and the Pundits over there were so on the floor flip flopping from "he's got a lot of work to do, its going to be tough"... straight to... "hey he was going to fix it, just give him a transfer window".

It was sort of tragic, that so many people really didn't get a good feeling for the situation. For me, at the announcement I went through the emotions from, 'I've seen this guys set ups and they don't match us at all" and "An american, wow this is kind of neat". Of course after a few matches in charge it was obvious he wasn't ready for the role they through him in. honestly I think he'd make a great championship manager, and its probably where he should have started.

Honestly good to see more Americans on here. There's a few of us on here. Like Neil, I'm a welshman in the US-- Los Angeles for me.
