Donald Trump - Make America Great Again! 11:37 - Jul 25 with 39985 views | SpiritofGregory | Has anyone else on here been following the American election? Trump has got all the lefties wound up with his no nonsense, unpolitically correct straight talking. The Democrats have also got their own version on Corbyn who is rivalling Hilary Clinton.

Donald Trump - Make America Great Again! on 14:32 - Jul 25 by SpiritofGregory | He'll win that vote because he creates jobs, he has created jobs for thousands of Hispanics. When he was asked why Clinton was avoiding him and not attacking him he said that she won't because she has too much to hide. He knows their secrets. He will win the Hispanic, the White working class and Afro American vote. America doesn't need another career politician or lawyer as leader they need someone who can secure great trade deals and secure the borders. In relation to your racist remarks I think that those on the left are the racists, they treat minorities like victims. That's racist. |
What a load of nonsense. The Democrats have won over 95% of the black vote over the last two presidential elections. Obviously, Hillary won't do as well as Obama, but polls have her well over 75% with blacks, just under 75% with Hispanics, and around 60% with women. Trump has no chance to get above 20% with blacks or hispanics and is unlikely to break 40% with women. That means that he has to rely on white male voters. Hillary is currently polling around 45% with men. There are enough white male Republican voters to give him an outside shot in a republican primary that is split 16 ways (there are 16 candidates currently running in the republican primary), but it means he is completely uncompetitive in the national election. Stop talking such junk. You may wish that Trump had a chance, but wishing it does not make it true.

Donald Trump - Make America Great Again! on 18:26 - Jul 25 by CanadaRanger | They owe over 100% of their GDP to lenders, including China. Look it up. Their debt is something over 14 trillion dollars. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_debt_of_the_United_States See figure showing how their debt was stable till around 1980, has risen since, and has ballooned under Obama. Sorry to confuse you with the facts. Obama is mortgaging America's future, but he's not the only President to have contributed to this, just the biggest. It's not left wing or ring wing, it's plain economics. You borrow from someone. You are expected to pay them back. [Post edited 25 Jul 2015 18:29]

But the obvious argument is that he has had to do that to pull America out of the 2 wars and economic catastrophe left to him by his predecessor. Plus the rate of the debt increase appears to be slowing at least. I know what you're saying Canada but it's obviously not as simple as looking at a chart and saying "Look at what Obama did".

It all sounds rather messy... But really, SoG is a, hrmmmph, female? I've known a fair few dickheads whose opinions on every subject under the sun leave those of everybody else not quite coming up to scratch, but they've always been blokes. Women don't waste that much energy disseminating crap. Sorry, SoG, you've gone from 'curmudgeon' to downright strange.

'Telling it like it is' doesn't automatically make a good politician. He's trying to turn it into a X Factor/Apprentice/TV reality show popularity contest. He never answers a question. I know most of them don't but he just turns everything into playground bully antics. That is all he is really, a nasty bully.

No country is an (economic) island. An interesting discussion would be what would America and the world look like if Romney had been elected. I think he would have: - run deficits, but not as great as Obama - taken action on Syrian chemical weapons use, instead of that "line in the sand"... - dissuaded Russia from some of its recent adventurism - tried to tackle domestic over-spending, but not aggressively (austerity lite?) - risked (and seen) greater civil unrest at home as a result of austerity lite - been lambasted in the (liberal) media for not caring for the poor - put boots on the ground before Ramadi fell. - not signed the nuke deal with Iran - put NASA back on track for manned exploration of Mars, and possibly a moon-base - put tougher measures in place on the Mexican border, especially in areas where the drug cartels control the other side of the border - done more for US Vets - kept Donald Trump uninterested in saving America from Obama/Clinton II. How many of these would you agree he would have done? How many would you personally have supported? I am not saying there are any right or wrong answers here, just two different visions.

Obamacare isnt at all what it was cracked up to be...and people laughed when Romney said Russia was one of the biggest Geo-political threats along side Iran. Looks like he was right if you ask me. Marco Rubio looks an interesting bloke to me for 2016. |

Donald Trump - Make America Great Again! on 14:12 - Jul 25 by CanadaRanger | Google US National Debt and you'll see the damage that recent administrations, particularly Obama's, have done. Money borrowed eventually has to be paid back (unless you're into souvlaki big time), and it's going to take a President with strong business sense to start that conversation. Clinton Mk. 2 won't do it (although her husband was pretty good). Bush Mk. 3 probably won't do it. Trump would. If it takes 30 years to get into that much debt, it will likely take another 30 to get out of it. Borrowing at the rate done under Obama will cripple the US if it continues. Huge damage done already. |
Particularly Obama's? Ha, Most of that damage was done by Bush Junior with his wars and overseeing the biggest financial crash in history. Obama has deployed Keynes 101 - and their unemployment is now back to 2007 levels, its GDP is the highest ever and the economy is growing much quicker than the rest of the developed world. Further more national debt is only a problem if you can't service it. The US can borrow money from the market at absolute peanuts (see also Germany who are actually making a profit on the cash they loan Greece as they can borrow it so cheaply). Private debt and state debt are two totally different beasts. It's much easier to write off national debt...unless you've borrowed off another country who wants to appease their own electorate as Greece are finding out. Just taking an axe to public finances is a dangerous game - I mean even the IMF (the IMF!) are criticising the current economic policies of the Conservatives here as its undermining our long term economic prospects EDIT: improper use of possessive apostrophe [Post edited 28 Jul 2015 10:08]

I personally can't operate as a functioning adult on less than seven, therefore will never have a sniff of becoming a millionaire, let alone a billionaire. My hair is better than Trump though, so that's something to hold on to.

Romney? I've been trying to forget about him. I couldn't stand him, but he is at least light years ahead of Trump in terms of being a viable candidate who had an idea about how to attach a policy to the nonsense he was coming out with. I think the idea of 'austerity lite' would depend on your perspective - probably lite for the rich ones and full fat for the hundred million on the bottom. A lot of the rest of that list is the old 'get tough on xxxxx' which is easy to come out with until you have to actually address the problem. The Middle East might be more or less fcuked regardless of who is in charge, it's its own place. For the Mexican border stuff, a lot of that seems to depend on the individual state, and Obama has deported a far higher percentage of people than anyone before him. The Mexico issue isn't about walls and security anyway, it's about inequality within the Americas and the massive market for drugs in the U.S. But the main point in terms of this thread is we're talking here about two candidates with very differing ideologies and one attention seeking, completely unqualified kunt with a squirrel on his head.

Private debt and state debt are two totally different beasts Indeed, the lie that the economy is like a household budget has been an effective way of convincing large numbers of people that austerity is anything other than ideological. Like you say, even the IMF has blown the whistle on this now.
Donald Trump - Make America Great Again! on 18:41 - Jul 30 with 2776 views | 08olesen | Obama has been an absolute farce as president. He pulled out of Middle East without any strategy, leaving a vacuum of power that contributed to the rise of IS. He then made horrendus deals including the one with Iran and the case of Beau Bergdahl, which allowed numerous known terrorists to be released in return for a traitor. Obamacare then cost a fortune and only added to ludicrous national debt. Whoever comes in will be an upgrade on his economic and foreign policy.

It's amazing how much my health care costs have gone UP (and how fast they've gone up) since the implementation of the ACA. My family plan premium provided by my employer has gone from costing me about $130/pay to over $300 and the coverage costs have ballooned. Prior to the ACA the Emergency Room copay cost $50, now it's $250. Co-pays for visits to my diabetes specialist (I'm type 1), eye doctor, primary care, all went up on average double. My prescription costs for my insulin, test strips have doubled for every order of 3 months supply...you get the jist... It's not what it's cracked up to be...at least in my case...I'll vote for anyone willing to change it or replace it for the better...but even if it is replaced, I don't expect the co$t$ to ever go down...realistically, I just want the rise in expenses to s l o w down..
