My art teacher once criticised my painting, to which I retorted that it would look good from a distance, to which he replied, yes, about 2 miles.
It took me a long time to get over that. It was the most hurtful art criticism I'd received since primary school, where the teacher there said that my drawing of a plate looked like a rotten spud.
