Crowd on 07:33 - Feb 25 by 442Dale | Don't try and say what I'm implying. Are those the only two ideas I've come up with? Are those the only ideas others have come up with over the years? Were those the only ideas come up with by the Comsultation Group last summer which gave up a couple of hours of their time to come up with ideas and have since spent further time wondering what has happened to those ideas? I'm not mentioning City v Barcelona or last night, so don't imply that I am. [Post edited 25 Feb 2015 7:48]

So you do not have a magic solution then? I think you also mentioned something about filling details on the back of a ticket and handing it into the turn style? There are many ideas that have been done and are still carried out by the club - vouchers in the season ticket for £10/£5 admission and free tickets to clubs for local children are just two examples. I have no idea what the consultation group came up with but please feel free to share it with me. I am sure that it came up with many good ideas. So do you agree that there was virtually nothing that the club could have done to increase home attendance last night? I was speaking to one supporter last night who would rather see us winning more games in League 2 than playing against better opposition but losing more in League 1.

"virtually nothing" isn't nothing, it's something. So, before we worry about last night, let's start with this: Who were the extra fans that attended the cup games and what what did we do to retain them? If you have no idea about what the Consultation Group came up with and yet mention ideas I have suggested in the past (actually think it was R17Ale who mentioned the details on a ticket thing), it indicates that some of my posts have gone unread. Any other club would have been all over last nights game. THE BLADES ARE IN TOWN AND ITS A PLAY OFF SIX POINTER...WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT!! It was a clash of play off contenders wasn't it or am I missing something because nobody from the club mentioned it?

Crowd on 08:07 - Feb 25 with 2433 views | aleanddale | Great post from TS at the end of page 1. 1750 home fans should be a wake up call but this new marketing person should be onto something good as whatever they do is going to be better than what we currently have. I hope they ( THE RIGHT PERSON ) are offered a decent salary and a significant bonus that is incremental on HOME attendance.. a bonus paid EVERY time we hit 2800 / 3200 / 3600 home fans. This part of the club needs a kick up the ar*e big time. What the fook happened to NO FEAR and actually having a go at some billy big balls opposition? to lie down and have your belly rubbed is just not acceptable - I really hope we all see more effort and endeavour at Brizzle and a TOUGH game next Tuesday against a revitalised Crewe!!! I really want to enjoy the last 16 games and why would i want to put myself through many more nights like last night?? of course i will as i am Dale through thick and thin - but this has quickly become as thin as i can remember for a while. Attack minded football please full of blood and thunder and make the opposition worry about us. I hope we give Brizzle a scare on Sat and hopefully a tonking!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have no idea who the extra fans were and have no idea what the club did to retain them. Do you? I would suggest that the club doesn't have an idea who many of the extra fans were, for example I bought five tickets for an exile who posts on this message board who came up from down south specifically for the game. I suspect many others will have bought tickets for family and/or friends who the club will know nothing about. At the game I saw the mother of a friend of a friend who has never been to a Rochdale game before and probably never will again, unless we play a 'big team'. Thanks for the link. There are some good ideas there, some which the club have implemented. So let's worry about last night now as I have answered your questions. What would you have done to try and increase the home support against Sheffield United?

The question about what was done to retain those fans was one put to the board on Monday via the Trust and their members. I'd have emailed everyone in Rochdale and got them to write their names on tickets. Obviously. Myself and others have spent hours posting about individual games and how to increase attendance, to spend my day off doing so again is possible, but on this occasion I'm going to do virtually nothing and leave it here. The threads are out there, I could link to them but it's not even 9am and there has been more time and discussion put into this situation by fans, so let's see what the club come up with when they start work analysing the attendance today.

Crowd on 09:38 - Feb 25 with 2247 views | dingdangblue | When we beat Walsall in September (our last Tues home league game?) the attendance was 2082. I'm guessing Walsall brought a couple of hundred. Nothings changed regarding home attendance as far as I can see. I wasn't shocked or surprised by last nights attendance at all. Then factor in City v Barca on ITV and its a no brainer as to why no casual fan came to Spotland last night. As for a play off 6 pointer? 13th place in the league gets rid of that argument if there was one - no matter if we know we have games in hand and only 4points behind 6th.

He would of done the same as I would and many others...and sought out a replacement, even spent money..... and shown some ambition. Crowd on 07:37 - Feb 25 by TalkingSutty | Good post. We have been told all season about over achieving and Hillys mantra as been about managing expectancy, (not that it ever reared its ugly head). Selling our leading goal scorer to a play off rival at a crucial period of the season, for whatever reason, killed the expectations stone dead. It showed the club are only interested in the coin and it was fully endorsed by the manager. Hills comments are also baffling. We have ready made replacements to replace Done and it's time to withdraw the kids from the team etc. We don't have any ready made replacements. , we have a few young kids who don't have the tools to play league football at the moment, so to toss them into the team and expect them to produce at this stage of the season is wrong. Playing Bunney at Left Back also left many questioning the sanity of the manager and the Posh exploited that decision. I would also question the signings of RNL and Brandy, neither look fit or even up for the battle and both are picking up wages for doing very little. We have a few injuries but also plenty of money in the bank to fund a couple of decent loan players but Logan apart, Hiils dealings have been poor. There will always be a small hard core of supporters who will turn up but last nights crowd should set the alarm bells ringing. Forget the Live telly game, Sheffield United at home is one of the most attractive games of the season and we musteted just over 1, 500 fans. When you factor in we are playing in a higher league against a big City club I would say that's the worst ever home attendance I have seen in nearly 40 years!! When fans support their local club and hand over their hard earned money they are entitled to dream, isn't that what footballs about? David v Goliath and sometimes David comes out on top, isn't that why the fans turn up, even though the odds of winning might be small? It's great to bloody the noses of the bigger fish but something happened this season and the fans aren't daft, contrary to what Hiily May think. So, the fans have been fed a diet of having zero expectation, in fact we should be embarrassed/honoured to be playing in league one. We lose our best player to a play off contender (and like it or not we where in contention) and then have the manager throwing untried, under nourished reserve players into the team at a crucial stage of the season. The stay away fans are not daft , they can see that the club and the manager have given up on the season with a third of it left to play. They are hoping to limp over the line when for the first time in over 100 years of history we had a outside chance of getting back to back promotion. I think the club and the manager made a conscious, or maybe a public decision that they didn't want to do that, it frightened them. A very loyal Dale fan posted a couple of months ago that Hilly is taking the enjoyment out of watching the team and what he meant by that was his constant dubbing down of expectations and sniping at the fan base. Without expectation or daring to dream what's the point in supporting your home town club, what is there left? Regarding attracting extra supporters to the club Hilly is a PA disaster and some of his interviews actually make you want to find something else to do on a Saturday afternoon rather than get up to the ground and stand toe to toe with the opposition. The Chairman, Directors and Manager should be asking themselves some big questions today regarding last nights attendance because they are all culpable. Resting on your laurels, mugging off the fans (recent postponement) and killing expectations gives fans plenty of reason to find something else to do with there time and money, that's what happened last night. I fully expect certain individuals to jump all over this post but I can live with that. can anybody else explain our dwindling fanbase because after last night I am very worried. A very eloquent and accurate precis, TS, which no one should regard as a criticism. Selling Done may have been the unavoidable reality, but the result, nevertheless, is one less reason for occasional visitors to turn up. Dare I suggest that, unless it comes to a game where the very survival of the club is at stake, the result is not that important to the casual visitor. If the team is going to be neither promoted nor relegated, I would rather watch a decent game than a worthy, hard-fought nil-nil, say. That's the dilemma. The only thing I can suggest, is that the sounds coming from the club need to be unremittingly positive and enthusiastic; create the impression that something exciting is going on, that you really don't want to miss; that you'll get some real entertainment for your twenty quid.

Very good post, i must admit as a fairly regular visitor to games, days of old last nights game would have been a one not to miss due to the opposition. With recent goings on and various other happenings surrounding the club it would have been far far easier and made much more sense to stay at home,. Even the mrs said the usual line "what are you going for theyre only going to lose". I normally disagree and point out we've always got a chance, last night i genuinely believed her.

I don't think our strongest eleven/team has played in a single game since Done went, due to Hill's 'selection experiments'.

Obviously, I realise that. I wouldn't expect Hill to select injured players! My point is that the strongest eleven available players haven't been selected and some of our strongest are suffering from a loss of form. Vincenti, especially, seems to me to be playing even though not fully fit - he's not even outjumping shorter defenders, to head the ball on as much as he was doing before the last injury he had.

Crowd on 02:08 - Feb 25 by Sandyman | Not embarrassing by those who made the effort and went to the game. Plenty of part timers sat at home in the warm or in the pub watching City that is true. Us in the cold watching "over achieving" Dale against a "big budget" club we have no chance of competing against according to some. Comments and insinuations from within the clubs management which do not sell the brand of RAFC and put bums on seats on a night like last night. Seeing off Southampton and Sheff Weds a few seasons back, 2 promotions , decent cup runs and a trip to Wembley seem to have been forgotten. Fortunately there are some of us left who'll turn up and support the players alleged over-achievement in the midst of such blatant negativity. For how long, who knows. Negativity breeds negativity.... This might be a ludicrous idea given the shocking history of promoting RAFC within the town, but might it just be possible to try and sell RAFC in a positive light and celebrate how much has been achieved instead? We sold our best player to them in circumstances that meant we could not replace him and the club is likely to gain from the opposition getting the points last night (so Lillis' mistake was convenient). If a player gained from the success of the opponents he would be banned (for gambling|). My twenty quid plus programme plus refreshments stayed in my pocket and the result I predicted happened. I wanted a different result but the stars were aligned shall we say for a Sheff U win. Its about time the FA banned add-ons and then clubs might have to pay what players are worth instead of paying less than they are worth and offering a conditional 'bone' to the seller in the event they come into extra money. I wish I could pay my electric bill using l add ons conditional on my income going up.

The Dale have benefitted hugely from add-on clauses in the past few years. When we sold Ricky Lambert to Bristol Rovers for what he was "worth" at the time, who knew he'd make the premiership and the world cup squad? If you wish the club to change it's transfer policy on the back of the Matty Done deal, that's short-termism at it's worst. [Post edited 25 Feb 2015 14:07]

Crowd on 14:11 - Feb 25 with 1782 views | cupardale | I actually can't believe what I'm reading. So few people look at the bigger picture, so many sounding like glory hunters. I live hundreds of miles away and due to work and family might get 3 games a season. Before that I'd be home and away no matter what the potential result might be. In fact pre 2000 when I was a regular I went to most games fearful of a spanking. That so called supporters are not attending or are thinking of not attending because we might get beat baffles me in the extreme. I can't believe how so many are feeling so disillusioned. Do people really think that our club employees sit on their backsides doing nothing, happy about the attendance? Does Hilly not believe in his squad? Does Hilly really make decisions to annoy supporters? do me a favour. Unless we get a financial backer we have to be realistic that consolidation and building slowly are the way forward. We will continue to sell our best players, we should try all we can to build our attendances but this again is a slow process and we should be patient. As a club we are never and should never chuck all our eggs in one basket in the hope of success. Obviously an attack on the play offs would be nice and the last few seasons have probably made us greedy for success but give me a few solid seasons in league 1 and a platform for the future and I'd snap your hand off.

Why have the midweek voucher and then restrict it to one game in September? There must be hundreds of those that weren't used and now never will be.
