Ready made replacements and other lies 16:44 - Feb 14 with 9638 viewsThacks_Rabbits

We have no replacement for Done, never had to start with and its the usual tripe we are fed. In possibly best ever position to get to the championship we will ever have, we flog our best player, to a rival, who then proceeds to score 2 in 2 (so far).

The ground saga has dragged on for months, just another distraction to stop us questioning the ambition of the club. No real news and we continue to do things like forget to put the covers on. I heard a rumour that the Commercial Manager job has been offered to someone linked to the council - No qualifications at all but he turned it down. Not saying thats gospel but I can believe it.

I applied for the job and sent C.V. but decided not to proceed , when I got a clear copy and paste Email that asked me things that I had already stated in my C.V.

Its no wonder we are failing to attract crowds and decent staff, things here are getting beyond a joke, wonder who is accountable.

Good luck to Matt Done - 3 in 2 now - he has joined a club that will match his ambition. I would take 20th in table right now!!!!

Why not try Hery up front if he doesn't trust him in midfield; that at least would be a worthwhile experiment. His first touch is excellent and he's quick over the first ten yards. Almost a Done clone in fact!

Not a bad idea, not sure he has the workrate but worth a go - Mind you he cannot make the bench so clearly has no talent

Me thinks Keef is trying to play mind games with the players. Put Hendo at right back to show Raff how easy it is to defend? Hendo is a consummate professional. He could probably play in any position in the team and blag it. Rhys Bennett too. Apart from that we are fooked when it comes to players playing out of position.
We have a surfeit of left backs / left sided defensive players. We even shipped Tom Kennedy out to various clubs and I'm sure he'd do the job there right now.
We had a wobble in November, we're having another wobble now. Just hoping that Weebles wobble but we don't go down.

I don't get this theory about not trusting Hery in midfield. He wouldn't have featured in the most important games of last season if that were the case.

Similarly, everyone (bar Jamie Allen) has given the ball away in midfield this season, with some doing it in areas where Hery has received blasts from the bench for doing the same. There have been games where he's been a bit ineffective, but his head never drops to the extent he hides and he continues to work hard even when things don't come off. Keith Hill will remember playing with Alex Russell who was one of the very few bright spots of the Barrow years, what Hill may not know is that Russell had rarely featured prior to that for reasons supporters couldn't fathom.

The first thing has to be to at least give Hery a run in the advanced midfield role. Then stick him up front and give Bobbyjoe the Messageboard Manager of the Year award. He can then go to Carlisle's board and win it there, before failing miserably on the Preston forum.

So if Bolton offer 100k for Allen and offer to treble his wages we won't stand in his way?

Does anyone actually know what we got up front for MD?

I hope MD gets a Hatrick vs us in their inivetable win if what I have heard is anywhere near the truth!!!

That's alright then let's surrender. what's the fookin point. I pay thousands of pounds a year watching Rochdale home and away hoping they win and compete during games. Two weeks ago we were in a very good position were the club could further itself beyond anything it has found itself in before, we were set with a bit of strengthening ready for an unbelievable play off push. Come the last day of the transfer window of which we were convinced nobody but nobody would be sold, our playmaker and top goalscorer was sold for an undisclosed amount of money to a team that we were competing against for a said play off place. We've been told we couldn't turn it down as the amount of money was too much for the club to turn down, we now find ourselves in free fall heading for the relegation zone with peter crouch at wing back and a squad with no confidence.

Will that money the club accepted cover the money lost through relegation?

the club is a business and develops players to sell on and keep in business - we haven't got 7-8000 gates each week so we have to sell when the offer is good enough. remember we turned down bids for dine earlier in the window

The thing is if you run a shop with a turnover of a grand a week you budget for it, if you run Tesco's you budget for it.

We constantly hear we have budgeted for this season etc regarding wages, outgoings etc. then we earn 250k+ from a cup run and choose to sell our top scorer - so we are now 1/2 million better of initially.

I really don't understand why we accept that we budget every season for a loss of x and in our most sucessful season for years, when we have had a lot of money come in, fans just say its financial stability.

TBH if a director came out and said we love the club and last 4 years we have personally paid £1,000,000 to keep us alive and we want a bit of cash back, I would not care at all. But to constantly give 1/4 truths (not even allowing a half truth tbh) is wrong.

Ironically just watching Matty just get his 3rd goal in Unt colours, to add to his 14 at Rochdale!!!!!

We weren't told we were selling Done because the club were offered money we couldn't turn down, the basic fact is that Done was made an offer he couldn't turn down (from a personal and professional point of view) and we couldn't realistically stand in his way. Anyone who thinks we could do that simply doesn't live in the real world.

But at least get your facts right before posting.

I am semi agreeing in that if it really is a career changer for a player then ok - but from a ruthless point of view it is our choice to agree - and we could say no.

Truth is until we were offered a deal that we agreed to, terms could not even be discussed (although we all know they are) so putting what MD wanted is what we are being spun. We could have reported S.U. for illegal approach if we had wanted but truth is they offered enough, we agreed, MD agreed and he went.

I just the club would just come out and say what the facts are - this is the clubs fault. If they said we got 300k for MD with add ons and guarenteed money of x and that we sold him as was a good deal and thats it ok.

They will argue it will effect our future transfers but as we did not sign anyone and as agents all know the real value its not relievent.

Spot on, and anyone who can't understand this is diluted

and he would have stil had that chance at the end ofnthebseason, in fact if he had continued to play as he was doing he would probably had even greater oportunities to better himself in the summer.

We know from last years fiasco when our best player at the time turned down a move to a higher club after we had settled a fee with them.

Bottom line, we weakened our team at the deadline accepting money too late to use it to strengthen our team with replacements. worse we sold him to a rival....everyone is laughing at 'little Rochdale'.

Whats the money being used for? Sitting in a bank account I think.

The board are amazingly good in general at keeping the club going, but they are even better at using spin to placate those that feel unease and discontent at goings on. I am sure K.H. is involved in this as well.

I am not being overcritical of the board tbh as in general they do a fantastic job - but they are all clever, savey, business men who know how to use media and twist things to suit.

e.g. Matt Done wanted to go - so what - he is employed by us and we could have kept him if we wished - look at those pricks in MK - they get 5 million and get the player back, we basically sell our best player to a club - I think had we secured a play off place and were able to sell that to Sheffield United we would have as well!!!

Why dont they just say they offered loads of cash and we care more about that than challenging to go up, which we probably won't as we get really bad crowds and Hilly wants to build for the future and promote within, so selling Matty is a great chance to bed in a youngster who we will be able to sell in the future, to secure the club financially.

Any odds in 2 years we are selling Jamie Allen in order to provide more funds for the potential purchase of the Shares :)

Losing a couple of games on the spin will always have some pressing for the panic button and that's obviously compounded by us giving up on a play off challenge by selling our main threat to one of our rivals, it's like we've rolled over and had our bellly tickled even though it suited all parties.

We don't have coaching badges but my god playing Bunney at left back is almost laughable. Then throw in the mix Henderson being moved to Right Back, O'Connell playing at Left Back and the freezing out of Hery, I would also include Rose playing in midfield at the expense of players like Jamie Allen. As supporters we are entitled to question team selections aren't we,or is that not allowed? It doesn't mean we are right but discussing selection isn't a crime.

Unrest within the fan base comes through the lack of communication from within the club. We have a manager who seems to treat the fans with disdain (my opinion) to the point he doesn't see the need to try to explain team selection post match or even try to keep fans updated on the injury situation and the circus with Hery this week made a mockery of the "Team Rochdale" slogan. Would Hill subject Henderson or Dawson to such ridicule, I don't think so.

It extends beyond the manager though, we have the Chief Executive insulting the intelligence of the fan base with his recent explanation regarding the postponement of the Orient game. The lack of information regarding the purchasing of the Stadium and the lack of progress on the Commercial front, will we ever employ a professional to oversee that role? Keeping supporters in the dark over transfer fees received also causes unrest and rumours.

The BIFFOS worked very hard to earn that nickname, it wasn't just given to them but yesterday they at least managed to put a couple of thousand on their gate by running a well publicised, easy to implement promotion. Every time we try doing something similar there is always a stumbling block put in the way to deter customers. We specialise in shooting ourselves in the foot.

So forget the last couple of results because once Hilly stops the tinkering we have enough good players at the club to see the season out. Its not just about the results, it's the lack of communication from the club and the feeling that as a fan we are being mugged off by the club, that's how I feel anyway. Things are about to improve though, Season Ticket renewal time is upon us so expect plenty of communication!!

As a supporter/customer do you feel valued by the club or taken for granted and updated on a "need to know" basis ?

Good post, but one point; Henderson going to right back for the second half at Coventry was a tactical masterstroke.

Rafferty had acres of space in the first half but did nothing with it. Hill put Henderson there second half and he had a field day.

Doubt he would have played there v Orient, but since nobody tried to get the game on, we'll never know.

I stand corrected. I am an old fart and the first question I ask about anybody playing in defence is their ability to tackle. Neither Henderson or Bunney can tackle for toffee but if Hendo did a job at Coventry fair play to him. It seems almost criminal that you take a flair player like Hendo from his natural position and play him at right back but it obviously worked.

O' Connell is a cracking centre half but never a left back, he might do a job in that position but it just weakens the centre of defence by moving him.

To be honest, Henderson spent more time on the right wing than at right back as Coventry didn't have the wherewithal to do anything about it.
