Should have won based on chances. I am the wrong end of the Kingsland to see if Kelvin was fouled but an Ok performance marred by some dreadful crossing from both wings. I thought Puncheon was excellent. Headers from the edge of the 6 yard box need to be practised and shooting from anywhere near the box not overplaying with the extra pass. Cardiff were ok - solid rather than inspiring with the usual timewasting. The referee was just abysmal. I do not expect him to get all of the difficult ones right but the obvious ones in his eyeline he should - the kamikaze tackle on Lallana in the box being one.

Wow. Amazing first half hour. We were really good and Villa were awful. We deserved to be 2 nil up.

Then Villa started to up their game and from that minute the game changed and it was all Villa for the next 50 mins.

The 'luck' was with us tonight and at other times we would have conceded a couple of penalites and a shed full of goals. Villa will feel they were very unlucky not to win this game.

I though Taiwo had a very nervous game and he gave the ball away often. Mind you many players gave the ball back to Villa far too easily. In fact the game was very similar to the one against Chelsea. Villa had almost 70% possession and we simply kept giving them the ball. We must keep possession.

We looked tougher, fitter and more dangerous - especially in the first 30 mins. Its looking much better than just 2 weeks ago.

But this was 2 points lost and not 1 gained. We could have and should have, won. Still a point is a point and a valuable one at that.

Based on this performance and the players who will be back/available, I am expecting a thumping win on Saturday against Wolves

The green shoots of recovery have sprung!

Whilst I would have settled for a point before the game, going 2-0 up makes the draw disappointing & I can't help thinking we should have got more than the 2 points from both games against them this season.

surely a good point? despite being 2up away..before ko we'd have taken a pt and got one...poor ref didn't help either. sitting back and letting them come on in the 2nd half probably helped them but if mackie scores for 3-1, job done.....

Agree with 'themodfather'. If Mackie scores the easiest of chances he had to make it 3-1, I'm fairly certain we would have seen the game out fairly comfortably.
Was very disappointed when arriving at Villa Park to find out Hulse was starting but he didn't do too badly. Overall, I was fairly pleased and I think we'd all agree a point away at Villa is not a bad result at all.
The most pleasing thing for me was that when watching us play I couldn't help but think that the only missing ingredient was Zamora. With him starting (hopefully against Wolves on Saturday), I think he will link up very nicely with Cisse, who played very well last night but unfortunately was lacking decent service. Zamora can hold the ball up very well and more importantly keep hold of it and distribute it effectively, which I think is the main thing missing with Rangers at the moment. Don't know how many times I shouted "keep hold of the ball" last night but I think this problem should be eased with the arrival of Zamora, and also the return of Tarbs. Can't help but think that if Faurlin wasn't injured though that we would be much better in possession. Still, it will be like getting a brand new player when he comes back for next season.

It was ashame that we couldnt see this team play the whole game we look like we have the makings of an exciting team. My concerns are that after we scored we shoul really have gone for them but we backed off and let them get into the game. Taarabt came of age and was magnificent in the second half and soon these near misses will turn into goals he needs to show the same performance and commitment next week and his confidence will grow and grow and he could tbe most exciting player in the championship and its sad that Cisse went bcacause Adel has obviously been lifted by the arrival of Cisse and in the second half would have given him the passes he needs to score goals. Im not sure if Zamoro was 100% fit but I think that once Diakite arrives we will have pace in midfield we are desperate for. Tayote looks a bit iffy and will need time to adabt Young really worries me defending he is not good enough around his six yard box. Barton keeps givig the ball away in the wrong area and needs to play in a more advanced role SWP I feel needs that goal to get him going as for Hulse Im sorry I just shake my head as to what he is doing in our squad, Mackie should have come on instead.

Utterly disappointed to say the least. It's no comfort when the opposition manager states Cisse should not have been red carded and Wolves fans blog how average they were & fortunate enough to get the 3 points ! That's one too many times I have seen Luke Young defend & concede a strike like that but on the positive side Zamora converted and we really looked the goods for half an hour. AT was hungry for it and now its up to management to continue to get the best out of him with more quality players on the park. We continue to drop points from winning positions & our defending under pressure is the main concern at the moment. Luckily other results around us didn't do the R's too much harm but once more we come up against a side next week who had a good old fashioned flogging today & will be desperate to respond in kind. More gut wrenching stuff in store !

We couldnt win from 2 nil up at Villa!

We lost from 1 nil up against Wolves!!!! Even with 10 men we should have won by a couple of goals

After so much promise we again throw points away . No one can deny this is relegation form.

Barton is in no way a leader and he is part of 'our problem'

And Taiwo is flippin' awful too.

If we do not get 3 points at Blackburn then I reckon its 'curtains'

Cisse was at fault for us getting nothing from this game and although there are mittigating circumstances I don't think it was a leg-breaking tackle. I saw the push but looked away for the chin-grab as I didn't expect anything else to happen, so didn't at first understand the red card, but with the rules as they are Clattenburg had no choice. In a previous time it would have been ignored. Not having him available for 3 games will be a great loss.

My concern is the way our midfield continues to give the ball away in dangerous places and Barton is the worst culprit for this. His play is lacking in accuracy and subtlety and I'm beginning to wonder if he has some kind of serious problem. He is certainly not the player we thought we had when he joined us. I thought he didn't really care, but I saw the anguish on his face after several of his many mistakes yesterday so I think he does. On the other hand he gives the ball away and does not seem to attempt to recover it which seems uncharacteristic. Something is wrong there and I hope MH is replaying these errors and attempting to deal with them. He may need some time on the bench if we can find someone to fill the gap.

The positive thing about the game was the return of Adel Taarabt who tried everthing he could to win the game on his own in the last quarter of an hour when he was up front. We expected great things from Zamora and I think when he has settled in he will be great. He got in good positions and looked good, but apart from his goal seemed a bit issolated after we were down to 10 men and particularly so in the second half.

Have we had our share of bad luck now or is there more of it to come? I was concerned that many of our fans thought, with our new team, we only had to turn up to win this game and I had hoped they were right.

I don't think Mick McCarthy could believe his luck in getting three points from this game which we were winning at a stroll until Cisse's moment of madness. We have the team to stay up now, but it will be incidents like that and Barton's sending off that will lead to our relegation unless our whole team get a grip and eliminate them from their behaviour and I hope Mark Hughes will stress that to them in the stongest possible way.
