James Ward Prowse To Replace Hojbjerg As Captain
Wednesday, 17th Jun 2020 14:50

Sky Sports have just reported that James Ward Prowse will be the Captain of Saints for the rest of the season replacing Pierre Emile Hojbjerg.

Speaking in an online news conference ahead of their trip to face Norwich on Friday, live on Sky Sports, manager Ralph Hasenhuttl confirmed James Ward-Prowse will take the armband for the remainder of the season.

This is no surprise to Saints fans but does give the impression that the relationship between the club and the player although not having broken down is probabaly nearing it's end with the Danish International now seemingly set to leave the club.

Never thought Hojberg was a good leader on the pitch anyway, think JWP will do a lot better job.

PEH was/is an excellent on-pitch leader as acknowledged by Ralph and the players. However, as good a player as being made out in some quarters? Think not, although his stats stack up fairly well.
The answer to the Lilly White's dream? Well Levy, stop tapping up and pay up then see!

PEH thinks he is better than he actually is. He reminds me of Wanyama.

Very few goals, can't really pass and engine not good enough, so why are Spurs interested??

🤦🏻‍♂️ Saints will be left with all the players that the manager likes but that strangely no other team wants!?

When players leave saints i always hope they have the grace to remain silent if they have any issues with the club - it's being respectful to the fans. Charlie Austin and others failed that test. Likewise I hate fans who suddenly turn round and slag off a player because he has the temerity to leave. 'Never liked him anyway...' yaddy yada... STFU.

May be it is hope against hope, but if a player is to leave, wouldn't it be nice for a change if it was done without a degree of acrimony.

In respect of Hojberg, I have no problem with him or anyone having ambition and who amongst us in our careers have not looked beyond our current employer at some point. Whether he is of the calibre and quality that some clubs would seek is a moot point depending on which side of the fence you are on. Thus far I don't think he has done anything wrong, but equally, I agree he cannot be a captain of a team that he is not sure whether he wants to be a part of and in that respect Ralph appears to be handling it correctly.

I am not an anti-Hojberg person. I think he is good at times, average quite a lot and poor occasionally. Always felt he was committed even on a bad day, but sometimes his passing is woeful but other times he gets stuck in when it is needed. We perhaps won't miss him until he is gone (a bit like Tadic for a while) - as now looks likely. It depends how we replace him or fill that role.

Hopefully if he is to move on, he will be grateful for his time at Saints and it will be dignified and respectful. I hope the club gets as good price as possible and we can wish him well for the future and we move on as we always do.

In the meantime, we have 6-7 points to get.

With PEH having one boot out of the door on his way to who-knows-where ...it's a perfect time for Prowsie to step up and show his talents as a leader..
I'm sure we still some fans who see him as a skinny teenager unable to get a regular spot on the team sheet, without realising that he has several dozen England U23 caps to his credit as well as being captain at the end of Gareth Southgate's time as U23 manager.

I think he will thrive in the role as the team in undergoing a major generational change and many of the younger players look up to him as the club's " Academy role model " -who decided to stay.
