Scott McGleish left Layer Road in the summer of 2004, joining Northampton Town at the end of his contract, because the U's were not prepared to offer him a longer deal given his age (he was only 30!).

He went on to spend three-and-a-half successful seasons at Northampton, picking up back-to-back Player of the Year awards and scoring 54 goals in 132 appearances.

He left the Cobblers midway through the 2007/8 season, joining Wycombe Wanderers for an undisclosed fee. He was a regular in the Chairboys first team for two years, scoring 34 goals in 84 appearances. However, towards the end of his contract, he went out on loan to former clubs Northampton and Leyton Orient, before being released at the end of the 2008/9 season.

After a successful loan at Brisbane Road, where he score five goals in 16 appearances, he returned Orient permanently in the summer of 2009 - this was his fourth spell at the O's having also played for them twice in the 90s. He went on to make another 94 appearances for the East Londoners, scoring 30 goals, but was released at the end of the 2010/11 season, despite finishing the season as the club's top scorer.

His next club was Bristol Rovers, where he joined up with former U's player Paul Buckle, who had just taken over the managerial reigns. He only spent half a season with the Gas, joining former club Barnet for the remainder of the season on loan, after Buckle was sacked by Rovers.

Come the end of the 2011/12 season, at the age of 38, his career in league football came to an end. He had gone on to score 134 goals in eights seasons following his departure from the U's - not bad for someone who was considered 'too old'!

He spent the 2012/13 season playing part-time for Whitehawk (Isthmian Premier), Chesham United (Southern League Premier), Enfield Town (Isthmian Premier) and Wealdstone (Isthmian Premier). He remains at the latter club, where he is currently a player-coach. He finished the 2013/14 season as the Stones’ top scorer with 23 goals, helping them to the title and promotion to the Conference South. He scored 10 goals last season, but has yet to hit the net so far this season.
