Injuries
at 14:31 27 Dec 2024

I'll preface this by saying I am a huge Marti fan, but if we're losing players to regular overuse/overtraining injuries then the Head Coach has to take some level of responsibility for that too - after all they are the ones taking training between games and no doubt still working players hard and still have input into the way players physically prepare for games - can't pin it all on the medical people and say "not my fault mate, its that bloke in Dubai not being here."

It obviously isn't the same level, but as a runner in a year I can have spells where I have races on back to back weekends or something like 3 races in 4 weeks - on those occasions you alter your planned training between races to allow the body time to recover after one race to get ready for the next - not carry on business as usual because you will pay the price and pick up injuries.

As said - huge Marti fan - but he has as much input into players physical preparation as Head Coach as anyone does.

I suspect he is nailed on to start the cup game at Leicester, as will a few other players coming back into the team who will need minutes.

I think Saito just struggled against a very physical and quite quick full back today. He's still an excellent little player, him and Dembele still excite me but its their first season at this level so it will have high points and not so high points. I'd love us to sign him permanently.

Was Prestons goal totally against the morals of the game

It was obvious straight away Cook was in a lot of pain.

That said, I think if it had occurred in a community amateur game I'd be pretty pissed at poor sportsmanship. This is the professional elite game though where its dog eat dog and win or go home so... I get it.

Sam Field wasn't very happy about it though.

Leicester cup tickets
at 11:25 20 Dec 2024

Got my tickets this morning.

I would caution anyone planning to do the Euston -> Nuneaton -> Leicester route that the train from Nuneaton to Leicester will likely be a Cross Country service from Birmingham, likely to be 2 coaches, and will be absolutely rammed.

Not that EMR is much better mind...

There's no Junction 3 on the M1. It is placed where London Gateway services are and was originally due to be an exit junction for a new town that was never built, hence why the current service station entrance/exit is so unnecessarily convoluted.

I don't mean to make this political, but behaviour comes from the top and regular people have seen the way world leaders have behaved over the past 5 years, dodging accountability for every scummy action taken and doubling down that its not them, even when it is, and thought "I'll have a bit of that, if they can do it so can I".

For some reason, admitting you are wrong seems to have become a sign of weakness. Weird world.

Funny how that "rangersinsight" profile hasn't been seen since coming on here to tell us all Marti had resigned a month ago!

The only way Championship managers get jobs in the Premier League these days seems to be by getting promoted there.

They'll both appoint someone from either the continent, or someone who has already worked in the top flight and is out of work.

When was the last time a second tier manager left a job to go the top flight? Beale had a go, but did he really turn Wolves down or did they decide against him and he used it to try and get some self-promo PR, given what we've learned about him since?

Personal match records?
at 17:53 15 Dec 2024

I never have, I sometimes wish I have, although for the most part I suspect I'd be glad I haven't....

It does mean I do wonder if/when I've ever passed landmarks (500 games, 1,000 games etc...) but then if I went all the way back to 1995 to try and count I'd probably forget with some games whether I was there or not.

I know the most I've ever done in one year which was 36 in the 2010/11 season. Once it got to Christmas and it became pretty obvious we were on for something special I think I only missed 3 league games in the second half of the year. It feels daft to say, but at the same time due to all of that travelling it did feel like the team's success was mine as much as it was theirs! (Do you folk who do go 35-40+ games per season feel the same year after year?!)

The first half reminded me of the old Championship Manager games when you'd click "Start Game" then it would immediately scroll through to 45 minutes and the commentary would say "the referee blows for half time" and you'd click the Match Commentary button and it would be:-

"0 min - X kicked off for Y"
"45 min - the referee blew for half time"

Scintillating!

More green shots but its still only 4 wins in 20 and we're still very much looking over our shoulders rather than up ahead.

Might as well enjoy some good form as fans because we ain't half struggled enough and its nice to smile about the R's but I'm sure Marti and the squad know well enough we're still in a battle in the bottom third.

He was far too good for Oxford's forward players last night, proper gulf in quality between the them in how easy Cook made it look to read what they were doing and cut it out before it got dangerous.

They were rubbish but not the worst side of the last decade by any stretch, that is comfortably held by Rotherham in the year we beat them 5-1 at Loftus Road and they finished bottom and 28 points adrift of safety (2016-17). And we were rubbish and lost 7 of our final 8 after that.

Bit of recency bias here.

But otherwise yeah, they were pretty bad, but we still had to get the job done and win the game.

Absolutely superb last night, I think he has a bit of improvement in the final third still in terms of ball playing, but in our defensive and midfield thirds I thought he was brilliant.
