Woman arrested on suspicion of child neglect over death of Matt Smith's son.
at 21:14 16 Dec 2024

Matt Smith is of course married to Steve Bruce's daughter Amy. Their four month old son tragically died in October. No indication of identity of woman apart from saying she is in her 40s.

Very sad case.

Chair's injury
at 18:22 10 Nov 2024

There has been a lot of criticism of our medical staff about the number of players out injured at present. What I have not seen mentioned, however, is the fact the the injury picked up by Chair during the Middlesborough game was more than likely aggravated by the fact that after treatment, he was allowed to continue until half time, before being substituted for the second half.

One cannot be certain that he made the injury worse by staying on the pitch until half time, but he was obviously in considerable pain, and the fact that he was unable to offer any protection to Santos when the two goals were scored on that side of the pitch, suggests that the decision should have been taken out of his hands.

Because we are not told anything about injuries, we don't know how much the decision made the injury worse. However, considering how many players are currently unavailable at present, I would have thought that the sensible course would have been to substitute him immediately. This seems to be another example of poor decision making by our medical team.

After all the doom and gloom following Tuesday' s result, something to raise the spirits!

An amazing stat from back in time when we were actually good!

It is hard to believe, but QPR hold the record for the best goals per game ratio in the history of UEFA club competions - since ever!

39 goals in 12 games at an average of 3.25 a game!

Those were the days!!!

(You can listen to this between minutes 53.46 and 56.22 of the podcast)

The Game Podcast
at 16:18 1 Mar 2024

Following on from the very nice article by Martin Samuel that appeared in last Suday's Times, which I highlighted in another thread, Martin talks about Stan at length in yesterday's edition of the Game Podcast It starts at around 32 mins and finishes at 42.30. He is very complimentary about Stan, the 75/76 team which finished second to Liverpool, and also references the Michael Nyman concerto "Final Score" about Stan and our great team. Well worth a listen.

I listened to this podcast this morning. Not one mention of the passing of our Stan!

I have posted the following on the Totally Football Show feed on X

"Regular listener to the pod. Very disappointed that you could not spare a couple of minutes to mention the sad passing of Stan Bowles an icon of the 70s and one of the most skilful and entertaining players to grace the game. Why was this?"

I do not expect to receive any response!

Stan Bowles

I know a lot of people on this forum have a low opinion of Martin Samuel and think he is anti QPR, but to be fair to him he wrote a very nice article about Stan in today's Times. I know it is behind a paywall, but it can be accessed for free on X. Well worth a read.

Ainsworth ranked last on The Second Tier Podcast.
at 19:04 13 Jul 2023

The Second Tier podcast (which I listen to regularly) have just posted a new episode today where they look at all the 24 managers in the Championship and rank them in order of how much they would want them in charge of their football club.

Today's episode covers the managers from 13 to 24th.

You may be surprised (or not!) to find out that they rank our Gareth at bottom of the pile.

I f you want to listen, he is the first they talk about. And they are not very complimentary!

I normally find the two guy's who host the podcast, Ryan Dilks and Justin Peach as very knowledgeable and fair.

Would be interested to hear others thoughts after they have listened. It will only take up 10 minutes of your time to listen to the Gareth section.

Ali retires and promises to return to Rangers.
at 19:07 20 Feb 2022

In my opinion (apart from Gerry Francis before his injury) the best midfielder I have seen play at Rangers. After the legends Stan Bowles and Rodney Marsh, I can’t think of any former player who was more popular and loved than Ali. What a player and a great human being.

Harry Redknapp on the latest W12 Podcast
at 18:31 20 Feb 2022

I was never very keen on Harry as our manager when he managed Rangers, but I was surprised that he came over very well in this podcast. He had interesting things to say about Adel, acknowledging his great talent but bemoaning the fact that he did not keep himself fit enough, and comparing him to DiCano who he said was a great trainer. He was very complementary about Tony Fernandes, but did say that Tony allowed certain players (which he wouldn’t name) to express their views to him on tactics and selection. (Something, which clearly shouldn’t ever happen). It is a very interesting listen. Highly recommended.

Why was Dickie not one of the penalty takers?
at 19:12 22 Sep 2021

All our penalty takers did great, but I was very surprised that Dickie did not take one, considering the great goals he he has scored this season. I would have thought he would have been chosen ahead of a young player like Duke Mackenna, and especially Luke Amos, considering it was his first game for the first team since his injury. In his interview on the website Luke admitted he hadn't even practiced taking a penalty before the game! In the circumstances It just seemed strange.

He mentions that after his injury he suffered from depression and started drinking heavily. He said some of his teammates made fun of him and called him an alcoholic, and that he received no support for his problem from the Club. I like to think that things have moved on from those days and that players are now looked after much better.
