Stop chanting 'Rochdale's a shithole' etc.
at 15:46 14 Jan 2015

I'm glad someone's posted this, the chant really annoys me. Well, not the chant itself, but the passion with which it's sung compared to every other chant.

It was funny at first when it was an off-the-cuff response to whichever set of fans called Rochdale a shithole, a nice bit of wit and gallows humour. Now it's become a sort of warped source of pride to people who sing it. What annoys me is that it feels like people actually can't wait to sing it, and it's belted out far more loudly than any other chant. It feels like the whole of the Sandy Lane joins in at every available opportunity, but then can't be bothered to join in with chants that actually support the team. Baffles me. This isn't meant as one of my old rants about people not joining in with chants, if you don't want to then that's up to you, but then why join in with just this chant? You must be a very strange person if you can't be bothered with an 'Up the Dale' but then revel in singing this one.

I know it's meant just as a bit of fun with the away fans, but who actually cares whether they like us or not? I don't. Besides, some parts of Rochdale are really nice, such as Litten Tree and Kokos.

Got a spare seat for the trip to Southend tomorrow, thanks to At The Peake being an unreliable bell end. If anyone wants it reply on here or DM me. Cheers.

Just from mentioning it to a couple of mates on Twitter, only 4 or 5 of us. Obviously that's not going to make a difference but the hope was to spread the word enough and get a decent number. We've all heard 10-15 Barnet or Dagenham fans make a racket in there.

Without knowing the actual costs involved, I suppose you can't really argue with that then. I would say that maybe it'd be worth them making an exception for this one and opening it for us, if there was a decent enough interest shown on here to make it worth the cost. I'm just throwing that thought out there because I'm sure someone will read it (obviously they do, hence the O/S article at 8pm this evening) but for all I know there are any number of reasons why it's not worth it, too short notice or whatever. Just worth asking imo!

Shame if it is shut. Do you know the reason why, Maybee? Because I'm pretty sure that the club said at the start of the season, when they said the stand would be open to home fans, that the only two exceptions would be the Bradford and Port Vale games, due to the larger followings.

And Chaff the idea (wasn't actually my idea by the way) was to, hopefully, get the Sandy Laners who like to sing and the TDS lot who like to sing all together in the best stand for acoustics, quite like an away game. I hope it will be open, but if not, we're back to the usual problem of the TDS hardly ever making an effort and the Sandy Lane trying occasionally but the sound barely reaching the halfway line. We always say "Oh we'll make a big effort for this one", but it hardly ever happens. That's why I think it's worth trying something different here.

Glad to see that there are others who like the idea. Spread the word. Really think that if we can get a good atmosphere going in there it may just help. Let's forget all this negativity and get behind them like proper supporters do.

Thought I'd make a thread about this to see what sort of response it gets.

Me and a few mates have decided we're going to go in the Willbutts Lane for the Cheltenham game. The thinking is that, as we all know, the noise that can be made in there is a lot better than the other stands, and we think that this is a time where the team needs as much support as we can give them.

Basically I'm just trying to encourage anyone who feels the same way to join us in there. Let's really make an effort and get behind them. We call ourselves Rochdale supporters...so let's support them!

No. Think about the definition of the word 'support'.

This is the best thread on here lately by a very long way. Absolutely spot on.

Obviously there are various reasons why people can't attend sometimes, I respect that, but if you choose not to attend just because things aren't going well then you cannot call yourself a supporter. You're a fan, but not a supporter. Literally.

Rochdale through thick and thin!

Jesus Christ, lighten up! Have a beer or a w@nk or something.

I think this is brilliant. I was a bit worried that some of the players who read this board would start feeling as down about the situation as a lot of fans do, and maybe even start to think that a lot of our fans are idiots (and I wouldn't blame them!). But this shows that they're not overly bothered by this whole MightyScouse thing - and if they're not, then I don't think we should be either. It's great that they're able to have such a sense of humour about it. Hopefully this can now draw some kind of line in the sand and we can all forget about it.
