The key point in all of this is the stated intention by the Ogdens of Dale becoming a "community" club Any community requires involvement with an enterprise at a level the community itself feels it can support; without that feeling, there is no support, and therefore no community The Trust, as the primary representative of the wider community (which could extend to the entire town) just HAS to be provided with the right level of information to disseminate, and also provided with sufficient respect to disagree, if its members feel so inclined, without a breakdown in relationships The alternative is top-down, unengaged, and ultimately failure [Post edited 22 Dec 16:38]

I've referred to it, although in an oblique kind of way It's open to interpretation of course... but (unlike me!) i'd not be inclined to pursue it; may not be in anyone's best interests right now? |

Fair comment What i meant by "abandoned" was an idea that's been put forward by others, about a completely fresh start. Depends if the proposal by the Ogdens for the Golden Share is specific to the current Trust, in which case it'd be foolish to start afresh We'll find out after the Trust/Board meeting, but there's indications in this thread that the current setup isn't working [Post edited 22 Dec 0:07]

if you read carefully, i was willing to give you every benefit of the doubt You chose to post trash instead. I really couldn't care less, you're just thick |

FFS have you read the criticisms of the club on here - like, today, this very evening? Okay, so you're a Biffo then. Only someone that thick would post such a thing |

if that's true (and i've no particular reason to doubt it, or actually couldn't care less) the best thing to do - realistically - is to stop trying to prove it [Post edited 21 Dec 20:02]

Depends what we mean by "a club" In a post a few days ago, i referred to CO having his head turned by SG If that's the case, the fanbase comes nowhere, and the community even further back I sincerely hope that's not the case, but if it is, the only solution is to somehow rid the club of SG. How? Not sure... but we've been here before If that's not the case (about CO being in alignment with SG) then we need to somehow bypass the Trust and deal direct. The comment from judd is pertinent in this respect [Post edited 21 Dec 19:53]

Agree with this. We stay 6th with games in hand (but a shit pitch) The board have to get the pitch sorted; first of all in the short term (rain covers), then in the close season, doing the work required I love the "community club" ethos espoused by the Ogdens, but the bottom line is we're first and foremost a football club, and if we can't play for lack of the basics in terms of pitch management, might as well forget the rest As for the Trust: i've put a question on the Golden Share to be tabled at the Trust/Board meeting. What comes out of that will help determine whether the Trust as it's currently constituted needs to be supported, revised, or abandoned [Post edited 21 Dec 19:40]

Even more so than the pitch, the club's response is just...wet |

There's probably been conversations going on behind the scenes, but airing these views in public is refreshing, and likely happening now since Pep's winning ways started to take a downturn [Post edited 19 Dec 23:31]

One of the ultimate idiocies of the system is goalkeepers being picked due to their marginally better passing ability (but still nowhere near professional standard) rather than their abilities as a... goalkeeper When that's the system and the keeper with the "better" footwork is out injured, the replacement is still expected to pass to under-pressure defenders. The result is pretty inevitable, which is why it was anathema for the preceding 100-odd years of professional football |

An interesting development, for lots of reasons Doubt it would've happened last season |

A stamp? Is that what the Tamworth Twitter posted? |

Got the job done in the end, which makes our last 8 league games: LWLWLWLW Given that sequence, i'd probably settle for a draw against Boston... (Not really) |

Well at least this thread makes up for the lack of one until after the D&R match had finished... |

An ignominious end to the test year then, and further concerns over Stokes' fitness. Why on earth he thought it a good idea to put himself through so many overs - quite unnecessarily - i've no idea. You can't "lead from the front" is you're out injured, but he's got six months to get himself right again, and (according to Trescothick) he'll be better advised in future Still, the series was won, and new talent coming through |

Connelly was definitely a winger, but i was wrong about getting a sniff, since it turns out he played in the opening game, the notorious bore-draw against Uruguay Edit: in which case, it can't have been 442 in that first game... [Post edited 16 Dec 21:15]

No, definitely just two forwards, i.e. Hurst and Hunt in the '66 WCF If it'd been 433, two of the forwards would've played in wide roles, even if not the older type of winger, although the system eventually evolved into 433 In the end, it worked because we had a few world class players, plus Alan Ball whose performance in the final coined (i think) the phrase "covered every blade of grass" Edit: the only true winger in Ramsey's squad was John Connelly of Blackburn, but he never got a sniff during the tournament [Post edited 16 Dec 20:38]

...especially if we left out the goalkeeper But seriously, no-one's suggesting that either. The game evolves, always has done. I started watching just as Ramsey's "wingless wonders" came into fashion (that's the origin of 442's username) but once everyone adopts a system, the coach who can come up with something more effective against that system takes the lead and the tide turns, until the next time |
