The Rules
Keeping with the format for last year, in addition to score predictions, please predict two goal-scorers as well, these can of course be two from the same side. Three points for a spot-on score prediction, one point for the correct outcome, and one point for each goal scored (including own goals) by either of your nominated goal-scorers.
If competitors can't be separated by number of spot-ons, for a tie-break please also predict the minute of the first substitution in the last listed match, Manchester City v Real Madrid. Your tie-break prediction must be made before that match kicks off.
As always, half-time subs are 46th minute, and injury-time substitutions will be either 45 or 90 minutes. If there are no substitutions at all, closest to zero will win.
None of your predictions (score, goal-scorers or tie-break) can match your opponent's.
Score, goal-scorer and substitute tie-break predictions will be for the end of normal time, extra-time and/or penalties will not count.

Wessex, we are where we are as regards 2022-23, but I can’t help feeling I have snatched a huge advantage by being first to post as regards the selection of goal scorers. If I had posted second, I would feel a bit miffed, albeit de Brunye and Mahrez will probably now prove me wrong.
The really hard thing is predicting the result valued at only 3 points. An outcome is easier offering 1 point. However, it’s almost odds on that the four players I have picked might dominate any scoring and each goal is valued at 1 point. Maybe this isn’t so much of an issue with many other teams, but these four are goal scoring beasts, notably Haarland. Maybe less emphasis on naming goal scorers in 2023-24 might be a merited recommendation?
But I wish good fortune to Oxfcolu, a worthy opponent, and last night gave Thrillseeker a nudge in the pub to complete his selections. | | | |

I will do a full update tomorrow, but there you have it - the 'certainty' of goal scorers can always rebound. Suffice to say no one predicted a draw tonight, and the only goal scorer prediction to count was unitedwhites' choice of De Bruyne for Man City's second half equaliser.
That gives unitedwhites a narrow one point lead over thrillseeker in semi-final #1, whilst despite missing his scoring amendments, oxfcolu is still level on zero with noah4x4 in semi-final #2. | |

At present it's all square - unitedwhites collected a goal scorer point for De Bruyne yesterday, but thrillseeker countered with the away win outcome tonight, to keep this match on a knife edge. TS has yet to lodge his Week 2 predictions, we shall see how that pans out in due course.
Semi-final #2
In a competition of small margins at this stage, noah4x4 makes a strong move towards the finals with both Dzeko as a goal scorer tonight, and the away win outcome, to go top on two points. However, it's far from done, and with all predictions valid, who knows what oxfcolu might do to make up the two point deficit. | |

I think that last nights La Martinez goal along with the outcome has just about sealed it for me as I now have a three point advantage. Hence, I reckon Oxfcolu probably needs a spot on tonight with a correct goal scorer, whilst hoping Haarland or Gundowan don’t score for City.
As I said before, posting first has given me a huge advantage given Haarland, Dzeko and La Martinez are such stand out goal scorers. I suppose watching Luton last night confirms there are no nailed on certainties in two leg play-offs. But whilst to my advantage, I do feel the weight given to predicting goal scorers is disproportionately great compared to the really tricky bit which is results. Maybe this competition does need a review for next season. Had I posted second, I think I would have been miffed that the top four scorers have all already been taken. | | | |
