Apologies, I was far too captivated by watching the game to post. Charlton in the first half dominated the game through their possession play, but without really testing us - apart from what was a sublime set of 1-2's carving the U's apart. Second half was a different story, apart from the penalty, but how well did Hornby do with his double save! After that, take a bow Mr Col U Tom Eastman, scored the equaliser, and an assist for Akinde's winner. But what composure from Akinde, just a delightful dink to give the U's the win we deserved - utterly fantastic! Okay, it's only the PJT, but what a confidence booster it must be for the squad and Matt Bloomfield - great stuff! Up the U's!!!

Papa Johns Trophy on 09:20 - Oct 5 with 1152 views | burnsieespana | A good confidence booster for the squad and Matt Bloomfield. Was our play any significantly different? Hadn't realised until now how important Saturdays game has become with Harrogate only two points ahead of us and Hartlepool now starting to pull away. After last night might we see a different team selected which includes both Hornby and Eastman to start. Personally feel Hornby the better keeper.

No doubt Matt B has seen enough of the squad in two matches and training to have a clearer idea of his starting XI, but imho it has to include Hornby and Eastman. Someone on the OMB pointed out yesterday evening, and I had to check the highlights to be certain, as Hornby blocked the follow-up attempt from the penalty, Eastman was already back on the goal line behind Hornby. As Akinde dinked in from Eastman’s long ball assist, Eastman was in the 6-yard box ready to tap in if the ball ran loose. Tom has to start!

Winning breeds winning and vice versa. It always baffles me when teams on poor runs play weakened sides in cup competitions. I understand you need to utilise the squad but sometimes it’s more important to get a result. Many a season has been turned around by a result in a cup game. As I’ve said before this is a decent squad with good players they just have very little confidence or belief and they play with fear. When the confidence is there they look like a different side but when it’s not they struggle. If we can string some results together, like we did at the back end of last season, we can start to climb away from the mire and look at the teams ahead of us rather than those behind, we’ve been doing that for far too long now.
