Dunne off? on 10:33 - Jan 31 by aston_hoop | so yeah....is he the replacement as things stand? |
I really hope not as he's proved this season he isn't up to it . If Dunne goes then we have to get a RB in this window

Dunne off? on 10:24 - Jan 31 by Northernr | We'd maybe be able to eek out £2m, but his contract situation is very limiting. |
If they bid £2million then we should reluctantly sell him, I don't think you'll get that kind of money for him again and we are still a club who needs to sell at the right time. We'd all be gutted to lose him but you'd hope the recruitment team already have plans lined up should this happen, he's been linked for weeks so we should have an idea how to replace him if this happens

I don't know. He's the heart and soul of the club right now. Not sure you can quantify that in pounds and pence.

Never in a million years will it be £2m upfront though.

Yeh when they get to £2m he'll be away. Could just get on with it and do that now, but apparently we've got to go through this "do the dance" bullsht for a bit first. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

You are of course right, Dave, but it is tough to take when he has been so important to us. But we have to put our big boy pants on, and realise that if in fact he did sign a new contract with us his form would soon disappear / leg explode etc. A real test of the club and the plan, this.
Dunne off? on 10:58 - Jan 31 with 2032 views | StrawberryHillR | It's an interesting one... if I'm Sheffield Utd and want a centre back, is Jimmy Dunne, whose best football by far has been at right back, the best option? But say they do want him, and we get an offer, we have to take it given his contract situation. For us, so much of our football from open play and at set pieces goes through him, it will leave a big hole. But if they let Santos go and knew that there was interest in Dunne, surely we have a plan... [Post edited 31 Jan 10:58]

It makes the Santos departure more mystifying doesn’t it? Just relying on Ashby is a risky endeavour.
Dunne off? on 11:06 - Jan 31 with 1891 views | kingsburyR | For £2 million I'd reluctantly say goodbye. At the end of the day he's a CB playing FB. I think we can do better having a specalist FB in that position. What we will miss is Dunnes dominance at set pieces at both ends of the pitch. If he stays........great. If he leaves we need a replacement quickly.
| Dont know why we bother. .... but we do! |

Yes - this. I was getting my hopes up when Sheff Utd signed Harry Clarke - but even I underestimate the obscene advantage that parachute payments bring. If Jimmy does go, there is a sudden vacuum at the club - yes we have Steve Cook back, but Jimmy was particularly talismanic in recent times - from THAT Brum goal onwards. Hopefully, we absorb this - but the gap to 22nd place suddenly feels a lot more relevant than the admittedly smaller gap to 6th right now.

Dunne has been outstanding but as was said it’s his prowess at set pieces that made him such a weapon. Sheffield Wednesday worked on that in our defeat although he was never going to be a threat when Ken kept hitting the first man rather than getting it to the far post . If he does go it will be about money for both parties. Us maximising our asset and Jimmy maximising his income . Simple mathematics really.
Dunne off? on 11:21 - Jan 31 with 1537 views | Wilkinswatercarrier | If its £2m that is a fantastic bit of business. 6 months left, not actually that good, unsuited to how we will eventually being playing. We should all be delighted if it happens as too many times players have walked for free. If he stays, great, but we need to sell assets at the right time.

I wondered if he might convert another centre back out there as well - Morrison maybe. It's a huge outlet for us having that aerial ability out on that side.

So sad that even if we did get 2m it would be less than we reportedly paid for Madsen. Unless we are already over our 3 yr FFP limit arguably we only need to sell if he refuses to renew (which isn’t clear to me - indeed he has gone above and beyond to say how much he loves it here). The argument we would be better with a specialist right back if only we could replace his aerial strength is a bit odd: what specialist right back would likely have that power in the air? To me that extra aerial strength in both boxes combined with his spirit is a massive part of our revival and you underestimate the importance of that at your peril.
Dunne off? on 11:33 - Jan 31 with 1328 views | sprocket | I'm Irish so I'm biased but fcuk me I love Jimmy Dunne and will be gutted if he leaves. Has his limitations but there is so much to love above his personality, commitment and ability. He will be a big loss to the team and the club. Gutted.

maybe this windows plan was loook to sell clark salter but that deal wasnt going to happen due to his long standing relationship with the treatment table so with no sales coming in dunne is the sellable option this window.
