Supreme U's to defeat Robins at the County Ground to start the New Year in style 00:24 - Jan 1 with 2242 views | durham_exile | DC takes his rejuvenated charges to the County Ground on New Year’s Day seeking a 12th match unbeaten. Ian Holloway has already piled the pressure on his beleaguered side by describing the Colchester game as massive and wanting a home victory so badly. By contrast Colchester will approach the game in exactly the same way as the previous games. Putting on a professional performance, no longer constrained by the consecutive games without conceding a goal. They overcame that challenge after Doncaster Rovers (a hugely better side than the Robins) scored and Colchester responded with a polished second half performance that could have elicited all three points. The game is also live on Sky Sports Channel 403 at 3pm. The weather will be challenging at the County Ground. 11 degrees Celsius but 82% precipitation (light rain) and a breezy day. It has rained all day in Durham and the wind has been strong all day today. The good news is that Samson Tovide is likely to take some part in the game tomorrow. Otherwise, I expect a similar team from the Doncaster game. Macey Egbo Flanagan Donnelly Iandolo McDonnell Bishop Thorn Payne Edwards Taylor Subs Tovide Gordon Anderson Hopper Kells Smith Goodliffe I expect the U’s to dominate the game and to run out winners by 3-0. Wouldn’t it be impressive if Lyle Taylor scored a hattrick. Colchester 15th with 27 points from 22 games. Swindon are 21st with 21 points from 23 games. Our initial target remains 75 points. Enjoy the game. Safe travelling for the faithful Wessex enjoy the three points. Up the U’s

A most odd selection Durham. Injuries? Or strategy? Determination for three points v Accrington? Hard to fathom but time will tell!

Not good for either side. Why do you always blame the referee?
Supreme U's to defeat Robins at the County Ground to start the New Year in style on 17:14 - Jan 1 with 1052 views | CrashBandicoot | 1) that free kick shouldn't have even been a free kick. 2) The penalty at the end wasn't even a penalty, our player never touched him. 3) sent iandolo off when he never even touched that diving swindon player. There's 3 reasons. I'm sorry but that referee was totally incompetent at doing his job [Post edited 1 Jan 17:16]

No we shouldn't but a defeat was always inevitable at some stage. It was Swindon who ended our first long run of wins back in our last promotion season long long long ago. Same time of year too. After that we 'got back on the bike ' and repeated the run. If the players pull themselves together before Saturday Accrington had better watch out as Wessex reckons someone is due a hiding soon. In truth we set up too defensive a formation, no goalscorer selected and made a sluggish start. We've done very well recently but we have only won five games since August 4th so unless something clicks up front we're going to have to be satisfied with a mid-table recovery plan this year. I'm ok with that.

Sorry but I stick by the fact that that referee was awful though tbf I'm also not saying that we played well because we didn't - I've no idea why cowley picked Hopper ahead of Taylor The fact is that referees should only act on actual fouls and not potential fouls that never happened.

Swindon had the two best crosses in the game, one resulted in goal the other handball ? Would it have gone wide if Flanagan had not had his arm out ? Never had any control in this game, what so ever . Need to start another unbeaten run on Sat with three points .

Supreme U's to defeat Robins at the County Ground to start the New Year in style on 18:25 - Jan 1 with 829 views | wessex_exile | To be honest, we looked flat and lethargic for much of the game. That being said, it wasn't a foul for their first goal, but very poor defending from the set piece unfortunately. For our first penalty I was certain the ref was going to book Hopper for diving. The second was clear cut, but why didn't the goalkeeper get sent off? Hopper was a nuisance throughout and deserved his standing ovation from the 421 faithful when he came off. I couldn't see what their penalty was for, admittedly from a long way away, so I'll watch the highlights with interest. However, we didn't deserve anything more than a draw, and I wasn't surprised when we didn't even get that. Still, we go again on Saturday with 3pts against Accy Stanley demanded.

Agree completely with your final paragraph. Egbo was hopeless today - he let the ball go over his head to an unmarked player for their second. We were way too open in the midfield when they counter-attacked, and the defence was jittery for most of the game. After the Doncaster match, DC was complaining about our pitch and before this one he was moaning about having a small squad. Not the right attitude, much too negative. And I don't think we can complain at all about the balance of the refereeing decisions. The sending off and the penalty just about capped off a dismal afternoon. Mid table will be the height of our ambitions.

It was Anderson who fell over for our first penalty. For our second penalty I thought the ref was going to penalise Gordon for his challenge on the keeper. And then Anderson fell over again with what looked like very minimal contact with the keepers foot, and an almost open goal beckoning. Maybe you saw more of Hoppers work than those of us watching on TV did - to me he looked ineffectual, posing no goal threat at all. But nice that his efforts were appreciated.

I stand corrected, most of those around me also thought it was Hopper for the first penalty. You're right, Hopper didn't pose any goal threat, but his work rate was exemplary - I know we pay him to score goals, but his efforts were definitely appreciated.

No decent ball for Hopper all game , but Gordon showed up for this encounter. Another decent display by Macey Never a free kick for the final ball in the box. Game of three pens and two crosses.
