Sam Field 17:44 - Nov 2 with 5138 views | Gus_iom | Got his critics while I'm a fan, but wherever you play him, he puts in a shift. Compare his out of position performance today to Fox's the other day. Great player for us.
Sam Field on 18:04 - Nov 2 with 3596 views | numptydumpty | Probably better than both Fox and Dunne at centre half. Sunderland didn't really have a sniff all game. With Morgan and Varane both performing today, has he lost his almost guaranteed centre midfield position.

He's our third best centre back for sure. Haven't seen enough of Morrison to place him yet.

Sam Field on 18:45 - Nov 2 with 3388 views | Paddyhoops | Question is if JCS is fit? He goes back into midfield but the problem is we actually held our own in the middle of the park for the first time in ages. Will he get back in ? He was however outstanding today.

Even if JCS is fit there’s an argument that you could play Field at left back 8nstead of Paal. Fields complete lack of any forward momentum, creativity in midfield and tendency to hoof has been one of the reasons we’ve struggled. I’ve said for some time that Field is far better suited to playing in defence. [Post edited 2 Nov 18:55]

Not sure Madsen was holding; he was much more advanced. Field is good in CM, but exceptional as a LCB. If we have other midfielders and JCS is out this is the right thing to do. Just wish he'd stop that falling on the ball thing to "secure" a free kick. Infuriating in the middle of the park, downright dangerous with EFL refs as the last defender.

Sam Field on 20:09 - Nov 2 with 3018 views | LazyFan | Morgan plays a little like Wilkins. But he does not put his foot in enough like Varane so, either he brings that to his game (still has lots of time) or we need Field. Varane as I said earlier was getting better each game, a few more games like that and he's established.

Agreed and I really like him there. Perhaps another reason to get JCS fit and try and flog him whilst desperately pretending his injury troubles are behind him. If Morrison is fit, then we would have enough CBs. Was funny watching Cook yesterday. As brilliant as ever at the back, not quite so comfortable when they were down to ten and he was looking to step up and make an incisive pass. Just makes me love him more really, old school.

On the Steve Cook . He tried on a couple of occasions to tread a ball through the middle of thier packed defence for Celar to run onto . It didn’t work but fair play to him. our tactic of trying to break them down out wide was not working and he tried something different. Love this man . He’s been a colossus.

Absolutely, he may not be flawless but his commitment and attitude is fantastic. As the old cliche goes, if we have 10 of his like we would be brilliant. Sad that he barely has a song really. So wish we had signed him before Forest nicked him last time.
Sam Field on 11:50 - Nov 3 with 2187 views | NorthantsHoop | Thought Field slotted in well at centre back yesterday, had a good game and our new midfield three of Madsen, Morgan and Varane looked pretty good as well. I hope Marti keeps faith with this set up for Tuesday's game and see if it continues to work.

Exactly. Before the false narrative completely sticks, it’s worth remembering: Sam Field was at the heart of Warburton’s side that swept all before them in a calendar year and was top at the end of January. Sam Field was at the heart of Beale’s side which was top in October. Neither of these sides had problems scoring goals and neither were “held back” by Field in central midfield. Sam Field was also at the heart of Cifuentes’s midfield for the last 10 games last season. He started all (Hayden did not start), and scored 4 goals too in those 10. Again, I don’t issues scoring as we put 4 past Leeds. The facts are that in all our best spells over the last 4 years, Sam Field was at the heart of the midfield. The simple reason the midfield looked better yesterday was because there were 3 in central midfield. Something which is also in common with those 3 spells above. And something that was blindly obvious to some of us as the solution to our problems with our earlier “game model” this season. When everyone is fit, Field, Varane and Morgan/Colback should start. Sam Field on 12:36 - Nov 3 by gazza1 | But you have left out Colback |
Based on yesterday, there is the beginning of a case to have Morgan playing central and just in front of Varane on the right and Field on the left, With Varane & Field both having the athleticism, energy and desire to get up and down the pitch, to do both the defensive midfield role as well as supporting the wide players, Very early I know to call Morgan but seems we could have a 3 man Midfield that can compete at this level without Colback, Admittedly I was a fairly late convert to how important Colback is to our transition but we just have to commit more players to our attack (before we hang out Celar & Frey like Dykes) and Morgan gives us that passer of the ball higher up the pitch we've sorely missed since Eze left.

That is exactly the ball that Celar needs. I've been banging on for weeks that Celar has been making that run, but that the ball is not being played in. His goals reel that was posted when we signed him showed a lot of goals coming from that sort of pass.

Good post and EVERY striker wants the ball ahead of him sprinting into the box facing only the keeper its always either a goal ,juicy rebound or close miss outside the post .Of course Dykes ans Chair (last 1 ) have managed to find the keeper center mass so that was useless. Celar was signed for scoring and its pretty obvious he is not turning 2 giant center halves then beating the keeper, or winning any towering headers from the couple of decent crosses we provide every game/month/year.. He looks lost in our system but Marti must be adressing our sh*t scoring record and putting the plays we need in practice to fix it. We need goals badly ,draws are ok but wont help us move up the table

Assuming he is injured/suspended. He is currently, isn’t he? If fit, he plays instead of Morgan.
