Kairo 10:58 - Oct 14 with 5039 viewssamueloneils

All this discussion about Kairo`s transfer prospects is very interesting but am I the only one concerned about the current striker crisis?

Kairo now has about 50% of all Dale goals this season. Rodney has 20% and is now injured and looks increasingly an injury doubt. Only McBride with 3 could be said to contributing from midfield.

Ayinde and McBride also injured.

Kairo will be a heavily marked man from now on. The word will be round the managers. Mark Mitchell and Rochdale don`t score.

We now have a run of 7 games:
Southend
Halifax
Barnet
Sutton
Wealdstone
Oldham

Anyone see any easy games there?

Perish the thought but what if Kairo gets injured? We have no other strikers fit. Why has Jim allowed this situation to arise?

Plus there are FA Cup games to come. Fascinating this talk of who we`d like to meet. I would settle for the one with the weakest defence.

A priority must be to extent his contract before the Big Boys come sniffing?

Can we not put the name Donnelly on the back of his shirt?

Poll: What is it to be then?

It's a stretch to find something to be negative about right now, but you've somehow managed it.

Striker crisis because our main striker is bagging goals?

Mark Mitchell and Rochdale don't score. I'm pretty sure managers are already aware of Kairo and he's still getting opportunities. Put an additional man and it frees up space for us to threaten elsewhere.

What if Kairo gets injured? We have no other strikers fit... there's a chap called Ian Henderson, you may remember him, he's scored a few goals for us. We can dip into the loan market as and when we need.

We're light on numbers because of injuries, not because of poor planning on McNulty's part.

"Anyone see any easy games there?"

Bizarre question; we're in the top five and have just seen off a fellow NL club 4-1 on their own patch in the FA Cup.

Are there ever any 'easy' games? It's a competitive team sport where two sides both want to win. Look at how Braintree made life difficult for us at home.

We have proved we are more than capable of competing and doing well in this league. Let the opposition worry about if we're an 'easy' game rather than the other way around.

When I was your age, I used to enjoy the odd game of tennis. Or was it golf?

At least 8 players.have scored in 14 games. I don’t think that is too shabby. Managers won’t start changing their set up to try and subdue Mitchell. He’s not Messi. I think the likes of Burger would love any additional space caused by more attention being given to Mitchell.
I do agree that when Wesley went back it left us light up front. So I would expect someone to come if either Mitchell or Hendo were to get injured or even before. But if JM isn’t panicking neither am I.
Really chuffed for KM so far. I have always had time for him, but he has really found his mojo this season.

Apart from going down the Bury route of collecting players, not sure what else people would want. Yes, there’s an argument to take a player on loan (Westley would have made more sense this month than last), but we still need to stick to a budget.

For all his goals in the last month or so, I’m going to be controversial and say Mitchell is still not playing spectacularly well. His goals and ability to occupy defenders is vital, but his all round game can still go up a level before we get to the “he’s unplayable” and opposition defenders can cope with him.

Would also think Allarakhia could do a job further forward, something we’ve started to see now he’s seemingly taken Rodney’s role.

That's a good point about Mitchell, he's far from the finished article and there is still a lot more potential to come from him, he's going to keep improving. He'll always score goals but his hold up play needs working on and so does his heading. For his size he should also be bullying the defenders a bit more, making his presence felt. I would term all of that as his 'alround game' and a lot of that develops with experience. If a club does decide to take a punt on Mitchell i think they are getting a player that will only continue to get better, he reminds me a little bit of Clive Platt, he eventually filled out physically as a player and his hold up play improved as a result. There's still time for Mitchell to do that.

Whereas Platt visibly improved playing regularly with Tony Ellis, im not sure Mitchell is benefiting the same from playing with Rodney or occasionally with Henderson. He is benefiting from the chaos being intermittently created by our wingbacks. He’s 26 (I think) and has been around a bit, he’s in a purple patch at the moment, and long may continue - but some way to go to be a L2 or L1 player.

I’d still be getting him to sign a new deal now though, if he does keep scoring it would be a shame to lose him for nowt in June.

I am worried about the amount of injuries we have and how we seem to be getting them but not that worried about goals. There are plenty of goals throughout the team with everyone seemingly chipping in. How many times have we had the same starting XI lining up every week? Those players that are part of the rotation of the team aren't going to be getting the same level as someone like Mitchell who is playing 90 mins every week.

Haaland has scored 60% of City's league goals, Haughton has scored 61% of Fyldes goals, its the main strikers job to. I'm sure Mitchell will go through dry spells again at some point, he didn't score for the first 5 games.

My impression is that his hold up play and finishing are both improving and that he has significant potential. I also feel he looks more dangerous when Hendo is on the park however there is no doubt that we need some back up.

Hopefully BJ is looking at possible candidates because if a good bid comes in January good luck to to him.

He needs a partner who is on the same page, Henderson's experience will help, but he needs someone there for 95 minutes every game. The injuries to Rodney are a real worry ,we got a glimpse of what the two of them are capable of in pre- season versus Salford but only in flashes since then. The good news lies in the continued creation of chances from both wings and the quality of the midfield behind them. A fully fit and motivated Rodney would be a huge boost as we get further into the dark nights and soggy pitches time of year.

But we don’t play with a front two. Rodney’s not really been involved enough in the role he was playing before injury (albeit still scoring five goals) and it might be that Allarkhia could create more on the left of Mitchell. McBride’s injury leaves us slightly short on the other side as he’s already proven to be a real goal threat there.
