What could happen this week? 17:31 - Aug 28 with 17524 views | ichbinnaughty | I know the messages coming from the club via GA are that no further business will happen, but with Premier League squads being (panic) refined as a few crumbs falling off the table for skint Championship clubs to pick on, surely there might be a couple of surprises this week? A striker, hopefully; and the whereabouts of Tim Iroegnebum (sp.) has been deafeningly silent so far this window so unless I missed him going somewhere I wonder if there’s a chance he might come back again. A midfield trio of Tim + Field + Colback would be decent.

Provided nobody wants a loan fee. Nor demands we pay 100% of their wages.

What could happen this week? on 18:56 - Aug 28 with 9831 views | Logman | I don't think Chair or Willock will go out now. I don't see them as deadline day signings. I don't think clubs get play-makers in last minute. I don't think we'll sign a right back with Smyth, Albert, Drewe and Jude Boyd able to fill in there. I think we'll sign a Premiership 4th choice striker or a league 1 or 2 striker on loan and send pedder, Kargbo and a keeper out on loan. Being very specific there [Post edited 28 Aug 2023 18:58]

I presume that if we need to sell either, we could also sell them in the January window? For less, I'd imagine, but still within the FFP period.

Theoretically, yes. Who would pay money for Willick in the last 6 months of his contract?

I got a feeling we wont be bringing anyone else in until we sell someone. Nobody seems to be linked with us anymore either.

I think Colback can play there too. Also Ainsworth played Jimmy Dunne there last season I think.

I could pick this week for giving up glue, drinking, cigarettes etc It must surely be clear to almost everyone that the current incumbents have run their race; they’d sell tomorrow if they could. I cannot see Yank investment coming in; certainly not in time for much needed signings this window. Should any other clubs fancy any of our players I’d also think they’d realise two Bob and a conker would nab any of ‘em

Saw too many games last season where he looked just as not-arsed as anybody else. He was one of the worst on the pitch in the Blackpool debacle. Not a team player in my opinion. I'd rather we gave gametime to players we own like Dozzell, Duke-Mckenna etc.

He disappeared in some games this true. The problem is Tim wants to be a reducer midfielder and he's not that type of player, he's an attacking midfielder. He thinks he can tackle, when he's only average at that and worse does not always get into thre correct positions. Hes young still so, he could learn that. What he has got is the ability to stride past players, carrying the ball out of our half into the oppo's and as we saw against Watford, he can conjure a goal from nothing. If, he plays this position then he's Champ quality. However, he's injured (which says a lot) and he does not want to play that position. Great player, once again playing in the wrong position.

I think Tim is quality and was a good loan for us last season and would be a good loan for us again this season if he were fully fit again. But other Championship clubs would offer more for him fit than we could which is probably about Zero unless we sell someone. Agree Dozzell is looking better but SDM though aggressive in the tackle doesn't look good enough with the ball as yet and maybe needs to go out in loan.

Firstly - I agree he is a player with qualities and, probably, will be quality in the future. Now how was he a good loan for us last season? I think he got one goal, one assist and one game where he was standout. The game in question was away somewhere, can't recall who against, where he got booked first minute but still was standout in a hard fought draw..... apart from that he was either exceptionally ordinary or totally anonymous. I heard from a Foolham mate that we asked them to pick up all of their young strikers wages as part of a loan deal. They told us to do one and he signed for Brum... scoring a last minute winner I believe at the weekend. We're trying to survive on a couple of foreign coins and fluff from the back of the sofa due, not to FFP (but partly), to the owners refusing to put anymore cash on the bonfire they built. So we won't be getting much in at all I'd say.....

From memory think he played about 30 games for us, pretty much a regular when not injured and I don't remember him having a bad game. He was very good, a great technical player, running through / past the opposition in the middle of the park and increasingly through the season saved us by spotting, reacting quicker than anyone else, cutting out runners into our penalty area. He was accused of not doing enough tracking back early season but thought he did more and more of that as the season drew on. Agree he was pretty annonymous in those end of season games when we parked the bus and hardly played through midfield but he was doing a job holding and defending as he clearly had been tasked to do.

Agree with everyone that he has a lot of potential, but on many, many occasions last season he showed an inability or unwillingness to tackle, track or mark. Shouldn't have been allowed our team last year, and unless he's had a Damascene conversion he shouldn't be allowed near it again.

What could happen this week? on 13:45 - Aug 29 with 7193 views | QPRConor2000 | I dont think Ainsworth completely ruled out any further business. I think we will only bring someone in if we sell someone first, I think its a tossup at the moment whether Willock goes or not, if he does go then we would have some funds to go and sign a RB and possibly a ST. You also got the free agent market as well which is not subject to the transfer window, which gives us some extra flexibility if needs be.
What could happen this week? on 16:15 - Aug 29 with 6935 views | daveB | Leicester losing a few players this week so wouldn't rule out them coming in for Chair
What could happen this week? on 21:30 - Aug 29 with 6548 views | Burnleyhoop | Field was carrying both Dozzell and Ireogbunam last season and as such were both culpable for our powder puff midfield. Ainsworth appears to be getting more from Dozzell so far this season, although he is likely to fall behind Colback in the pecking order. I wouldn’t touch Tim with a barge pole. Another academy product that has the technical ability, but rarely affects games and is certainly the antithesis of what we need this season. We now look to have some steel to the spine of the team which was sorely lacking last season. All things considered, the huge oil tanker finally appears to be turning and is doesn’t need anymore wannabe n-10’s from the Premier league puppy farms to cock it up. Looking forward to seeing more from Kolli, Armstrong and DM this season, so save the pennies for next year.
