Small change compared to what this Tory govt in Westminster have done

Why can't this subject be discussed without mentioning Westminster. Welsh health is devolved and there are major issues. Absolutely nothing to do with Westminster.

It's all about comparisons. Some on here are eager to blame Welsh labor for almost everything but say nothing about the Tories in Westminster

They are responsible for happens in Wales so should take the blame if things are wrong on devolved issues. Westminster should take the blame on matters that they are responsible for. Petty party politics and point scoring will never solve the problems.

Devolution has been a disaster for this country. Bottom of virtually every league table in the UK. Health and education especially.

Devolution is only is a disaster if you want a child like Cymru with no democratic voice whatsoever.

This was true in the 1960s and our valleys got flooded when every welsh mp voted against it.

In modern Europe small democratic nations perform well.
Look at Ireland.

We need devo max for Cymru or independence.
Unless you believe that in the whole of Europe that the welsh people are unique in being unable to run their own affairs.

Seriously though something needs to be done for the future. We have the same old stale growth policies. Inflation is going to go up by the looks of it until peaking in the summer. Everyone is getting taxed and paying more and more to pay for services you cant access or are getting worse in font of our eyes. Lets start in Wales to make a difference to our small population, we could easily just adopt a health policy from another nation that works just making it free at the point of use to UK citezans, what a feather and sucess for the Senedd.

They've not got the nous, nor vision. Too busy with snouts in the trough, just like those in WM.

Right then, we have the makings of a manifesto, what are we calling our party?

What's our defence policy? I'm tempted to say get rid of nukes, spend some of it on our modern requirements (drones etc) then spend the rest on those technical colleges and cottage hospitals.

PS, how about a rule that initial NHS training is free but if you leave within 7 years of qualifying you have to repay the full costs, silly idea?

No not silly just sensible, as for nukes i would have disagreed vehemantly with you before i saw what a virus in a petri dish could do, so yes scrapped. I think we have enough party's to be honest we just need honest sensible people to lead one of them not blindly following these party loons.

Just think whats happened over the last few years, the people spoke and most of our MP and media did everything to ignore or sabotage whichever side you were on this was disgraceful.

They are second rate MP's as has been proved in Westminster hindered and hampered by a useless Civil Service which have been infiltrated with wokeism. We needed Boris to make a big impact throwing his weight around changing things for the better, instead we had chaos.
As for the Senedd well worse than useless end of.

I would be the first one campaigning for Welsh devolution if i thought we had the correct people and policies. But i will not walk blindly into a disaster with what we have on offer.

We have made big mistakes in this country when we didnt look at our Water and energy policy as proved by any number of droughts and gas oil coal take your pick on cock ups.

No i dont believe we are unique in Europe, just the Labour and Conservative parties policies change overnight. We could end with Corbyn light socialism say if we went indie this year, or is Proff Drakeford backing Kier's non existent policies. Thats not having a pop just stating facts i think there is no difference between the front benches of either side.

Exactly..... .. voter apathy is the biggest danger, as its what Labour and the Tories are banking on, its always amazed me why a party hasn't emerged with common sense policies, you'd think they'd walk into office. Employment, health care, energy, education, manufacturing, affordable housing its unbelievable that we have the second biggest tidal range in the world and dithering about harnessing it.

The issue is this IMHO, i have recently spent time in London and what ive seen and witnessed talking to people is this. The city and most of the inner M25 live a completely different existence to the rest of us. I was partaking in a £12 pint talking to people who were moaning that we were not taking in enough immigrants as they were struggling to find a dog walker, and as for Barrista's. These people were well paid professionals living in the best city in the world, i cant get a bus now home from from my local pub they have just had the new Lizzy line. Its all of our past governments fault, levelling up is a good idea and needs to happen fast.

TJ, London is bouncing i was sitting in my hotel watching BBC reporting on Boxing day sales and the low expected footfall, you have never seen anything like it my wife was frightened walking/struggling along the pavements. There was no way you could go into any shops or fast food outlets etc. In Chelsea every high end luxury brand shop had queues yards and yards long.

This harks back to something I previously mentioned, in that the "Cost of Living Crisis" simply isn't one for quite a lot of people.

There are plenty of households out there with enough income to cover a 10% rise in the price of most things without losing too much sleep. I'd even venture so far as to say a clear majority of them.

I know plenty of people who earn enough or have enough of a household income that the current situation has passed them almost entirely by. And these aren't wealthy people by any stretch. Just full time workers earning on or slightly above average wage.

The problems lie with those who don't. Single income households on a low income. The unemployed. A minority, but one that will suffer.

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

The problem is we have had generation brought up on the scrounge since the 70's also we have a proportion of people who are unemployable, how to solve this will take lots of cooperation and give and take from all parties but sorted it must.

i mentioned in a earlier post that i would give all NHS workers a 4K pay rise upto 35K , this would give the lowest paid 20% and the rest a pay rise. |would also include all care home workers immediately and start to incorperate all back into the NHS or look at their profit margins.

The first paragraph is very true. However back in the 70's usually only 1 member of the household worked, but there are plenty of jobs available atm. How can it be right that people are better off claiming rather than working.

The trouble is that atm the easiest path for election victory for Labour is to do nothing. The Tory party continue to dig their own grave and it’s the simplest thing in the world to carry on giving them enough rope.

The difficult part comes next when you get elected and nobody knows what you stand for. I get why Starmer is doing it though. Just one example is avoiding talking about building a closer relationship with Europe. It’s obvious it needs to happen but any mention of it could mobilise a section of uncertain Tory voters.

What closer relationship , have you seen whats going on in the EU? We need MP's who will carry out the voters wishes whether you agree with them or not. If you dont agree stand on a honest manifesto to get the democratic vote. As i say they are all the same on the front benches at the moment.

That easy path to victory though, what majority will it give them? Starmer needs to make a strong case that wins over not just the floating voters but also any hesitant tories so he gets a thumping majority and can then do everyhting he promises.

We don't need half measures. We can't have a government that may rely on friendly non tories to carry a vote.

He can talk about the Eu and simply say that we will approach the EU for fresh talks on improving the relationship, he doesn't have to make any commitments there beyond talks. He can also be straight with the EU and say we want talks, propertalks without any animosity or stupid posturing from either side. Talks about what is best for both sides.

You are right, people need to know what Labour stand for.

In yet another answer to Kilky, going indy is about a lot more than whether we can run ourselves. In business terms, if you have a failing model, no infrastructure and need massive investment but your biggest business partner is behind a wall, the same wall the EU would be behind, how does it make your business viable?

You never answer that uestion, what does an indy Wales do outside of the UK and outside of the EU? Who negotiates our trade deals? Where and how do we replace all the funding we lose in a country that Drakeford says is already underfunded?

Just my opinion, but WTF do I know anyway?

OK youre in my cabinet, are you after my leadership job? We need to give Brexit a fair go so far what with covid and all the overturning attempts our democratic vote has been slashed all over.

Add in Truss and Kwasi growth budget to be implemented all at once cock up and i fear we are going to stagnate for years. Im sure i thats what Labour were proposing under Corbyn spending your way out of austerity etc

Oh no, I don't want to be leader. The best place for me is always in a supporting role. Unlike those politicians in Westminster though, I wouldn't stab you in the back for my own, my reward really would be in a job well done. I would never crave a peerage, never take a bribe of any sort and never shit on the people I'm supposed to serve for my own benefit.

I'll never make it in politics.

We need to sort the trading relationship out. It’s vital for our financial future.

At some point it needs to be acknowledged that the view on brexit has shifted’ and coupled with demographic changes means the thirst for closer ties will grow. I reckon it’s inevitable within the next 10 years.

People voted leave for different reasons. If someone voted because they were uneasy about unelected rule then fair enough. There’s been nothing to change your mind. If you voted leave for £350m for the NHS, to stop illegal immigration or for new and exciting trade deals with Tuvalu or whatever, we’ve probably got enough evidence now that that was a bit daft.
