You're right. We've got a timeshare in Portugal and over the years, we've either seen or been on the same plane (easyjet - the tight bstards) as Gareth Southgate, Michael Owen, Curtis Davies, Jimmy Bullard, John Barnes, Don Goodman, Steve Cook, and my wife sat next to Anton Ferdinand on a plane while my little boy who was just out of nappies at the time widdled all over the seat. One that I can't escape the memory of though is John Terry (actually with his wife at the time amazingly). I actually felt sick at the sight of him.

I played football against Terry curly perm Curran in Rhodes town. A couple of The Grumbleweeds on the pitch, too.

So it’s Rhodes - that’s where they go.

Did I ever mention that I was in Minder?

While living in Manila, I walked into the gym in my apartment block sporting a QPR t-shirt. It was shortly after the Aguero game, and a Filipino looking guy strikes up conversation about the match. I ask where he was from as he was well informed about football and he had a London accent.

Turned out it was the ex-Fulham, currently Birmingham City stopper, Neil Etheridge (mum is a Filipina) on holiday with some chums. He also had an apartment there. Really nice lad.

Monday morning as I was going to work, I pass one of his chums, Chris Smalling on the way in from a night out it looked….tough life being a footballer!

We have hordes of footballers over here in the summer. They tend to come in coach parties, visit the local heritage sites, pub lunch, ice cream in the afternoon, premier bingo in the evening. Onchan leisure park is a favourite, the queues for the crazy golf when the footballers are over! The boarding houses on Douglas prom are stuffed to the gills with them.
Apparantly, Kalvin Phillips wanted to go kayaking last summer, but it was deemed to dangerous for him, while Phillip Foden was rushed to hospital with a suspected ectopic pregnancy, but one of the doctors, a new father, saw the problem, burped him, and he was fine. Stick to one cone in the future, Phillip!

A good mate of mine (West Ham fan) bumped into Steve Yates in the summer of 1996. It was in some part of the Med (Cant remember where exactly?). He said Yates was not too complimentary about QPR, the fans, Ray Wilkins.... Yates also said the players were not bothered about relegation that season as Chris Wright gave all of the players a pay rise in an attempt to keep them at the club. Apparently Yates girlfriend was very attractive but had a huge arse!
I also saw Roy Wegerle with his family on an open top bus in Paris (2002ish). I didn't go and speak to him which I regret ... He was with his wife and kids so maybe it was for the best.

A lot of them will go to the USA. Loads to do there if you have money and kids to keep happy.
English speaking and useful for enquiring about the MLS when you come to the end of your career.

Also, people are unlikly to go "oi mate I know you, you play for ..." so, they can move about without fear and you know ... a holiday!

zzzzzzzzzz

Just remembered I saw Heidar Helguson in a Premier Inn reception area in Edinburgh in April 2016... I did speak to him and thanked him for the goals he scored for QPR (which was nice).

Top Tip: To avoid these jerks, simply book a week a Butlins in Minehead. Shit weather, food and facilities and all the chlamydia you can catch. Or why not book a week's nihilistic shouting in a cave in Wales?

'What do we want? We don't know! When do we want it? Now!'

I bumped into Chris Houghton in Barbados a few years back. I looked at him. I nodded hello and he did not respond. I think I was the only one in the shop who recognised him like.....
