David Kilpatrick 21:57 - Sep 21 with 14956 views | HullDale | Just heard the sad news that David Kilpatrick has passed away. A huge figure in the history of our club, and he will long be remembered as one of the 'Overcoat Men' who went above and beyond to save and revive the club. Rest in Peace.

David Kilpatrick on 11:04 - Sep 22 with 7073 views | dawlishdale | Can only echo what others have said. Without David Kilpatrick, we probably wouldn't be a league club today. One of the Overcoat men, his place in our history should never be forgotten. Rest in Peace big fella.
David Kilpatrick on 11:44 - Sep 22 with 7009 views | Boss_Hog | A man that I held in such high esteem that I still called him 'Mr Chairman' every time we spoke. Our club wouldn't be around today except for what he did in the early 1980s, and he's also been instrumental in our recent fights. He's right up there with the most important people in our 114-year history. Rest easy Mr Chairman.

Me too. It's not just his achievements that are of such high merit, it's the way he went about his business. His character was unique, and if you were a fool, he'd let you know with a caustic wit second to none. My favourite recollection is at the Fans Forum circa March 1996 after we'd been to Anfield in the cup. As usual, someone asked: "where's the bloody money gone?" DFK: "Have you walked here tonight?" "yes" "When you walked through the car park did you see all the Jaguars?" "yes" "Well Jaguars don't pay for themselves you know." Cue the room descending into raucous laughter. Only DFK could get away with a remark like that! When everyone had stopped laughing, it fell to his stalwart ally, Graham Morris to explain the housekeeping. I'm sure Graham will be equally devastated along with DFK's family. What a legend. RIP.

David Kilpatrick on 13:20 - Sep 22 with 6777 views | since58 | Sad news. He always had time for the fans, had many a conversation with him in the Farrier after the match. R.I.P. Mr Kilpatrick.
David Kilpatrick on 13:24 - Sep 22 with 6752 views | TomRAFC | His dry wit and business sense were a combination beyond compare. I'm genuinely gutted by this. I was raised to appreciate what this man did for our club. Having a footballer as your hero in your youth is normal. Having a chairman as your hero is a whole other kettle of fish. Thank you, sir, from the bottom of my heart.

Yes, a fitting tribute on the OS. Credit to whoever penned it, and a picture of a fitting overcoat too! Can't say i ever met DK, but his passing serves as a reminder of our history and the new era in which we need to continue his legacy RIP

David Kilpatrick on 14:04 - Sep 22 with 6655 views | joecooke | Lovely man who i met a few times while going to the match with my late father. Many a discussion was had with the somewhat loud box 8 crew of the time and Mr Kilpatrick was always a gentleman and the discussions were always done in professional manner, well by Mr Kilpatrick anyway!! A larger than life character who did a great deal for Rochdale AFC.

David Kilpatrick on 14:21 - Sep 22 with 6618 views | kel | I never met Mr Kilpatrick but remember as a young lad looking up in awe at this giant bloke when he came to speak to supporters in the Sandy that year when there was a sit down protest regarding the club giving the stand away to Burnley when they were due to visit. R17 once told me a funny story about a reply to moggy he made about being born in the Sandy Lane but he tells a better story than I do. RIP
David Kilpatrick on 14:39 - Sep 22 with 6586 views | TVOS1907 | What terribly sad news. I got to know Killy through being involved in things like EGP and TVOS and then later in The Sun Hotel at Littleborough, where he was often seen holding court at the bar. I remember one Sunday evening in 2008 chatting to him about Parkin and how well Hull had started in the Premier League. "They've got Chelsea at home on Wednesday," I said. "That'll be a tough one." "Do you fancy going?" he asked. "I'll ring Parkin now." And so he did ring Parkin at 10pm on a Sunday evening, to reserve a couple of seats. I felt like royalty travelling across the M62 in the front seat of his Jag. Throughout the journey he was taking phone calls about marble in India and his racehorse (maybe racehorses). It was like another world to me. We duly got to the KC Stadium and after charming his way into the car park (Parkin had forgotten about that), we made our way to the posh seats, where I found myself sat next to Frank Lampard Senior, whose son was in the Chelsea team Suddenly, Mr Lampard saw who was on the other side of me and engaged in a long conversation with Killy about football and racehorses. It was a measure of the esteem with which he was held throughout football that someone who was such a high profile player in the 70s and 80s not only knew Killy, but was happy to spend time chatting with him like a long lost friend. At half-time, we bumped into Richard Jobson in the bar and again, Killy struck up a long conversation with someone he hadn't seen for a few years. In later years, I regularly saw David driving around Littleborough and he would always give me a wave, akin to the royal wave by her majesty. Times must have been hard, though, as he had started shopping at Lidl! He also rang me once when Brian Greenhoff had released his autobiography. "I need you to check a few things he's said about his time at Rochdale before I decide if I'm going to sue him," he said, in rather more caustic language than that! One story to finish. At around 5.30pm one evening, my mobile rang and it was Killy. He wanted the number of , Trevor, a fellow Dale fan and acquaintance from The Sun. "How come you want it, David?" I asked. "I've just given him a lift home from the Co-op, but he's taken my shopping and I've got his," he said, with a few expletives thrown in. Maybe that's why he moved to Lidl! Others will have countless tales to tell, but what a great bloke, a natural comedian, someone with genuine interest in the fans and one of those who ensured we were still around for nights like last night. RIP Killy, you're a legend
| When I was your age, I used to enjoy the odd game of tennis. Or was it golf? |
