A few pints in there and the boozer across the way then run the gauntlet of the long walk from the bus station down through Riverside to Ninian Park and then back to Dorothy's for rissole and chips (strange rissoles shaped like lemons) and then a pink sports paper to read on the way home. Crying shame they've been bought out, but it's the way of the world, unfortunately. The home of Tetleys bitter (not the best tasting beer, admittedly) was for 200 + years in Leeds city centre, but is now, shamefully, in Northampton, along with Carlsberg. Just over Christmas I was downing a 660ml bottle of Bremen's finest Becks and idly read the label and was dismayed to find that it's now brewed in the UK. As for Boddingtons, a Manchester institution - well, god knows where that's produced these days. There's no sense of tradition or sentiment in the brewing industry. | | | |

Many years ago I used to work with a guy who was big mates of the head brewer for Buckley’s, apparently he had his own key to the testing room in Scarlet City! Mate went to Uni in Manchester back in the 80s, a couple of us went up to visit him and that was our first experience of Boddingtons, I’d never tasted anything like it before, it was very creamy and lush, fantastic beer. These days most of the beers we have are all brewed by multinationals under licence and by enlarge its bland drivel, it’s great to see the small craft breweries doing so well. | | | |

Brought up in Cockett but never really used to drink in there regularly...my old man and his mates used to but then moved to the Star in Fforestfach when Alan took over, I used to love the beer in there...not sure if it was Courage or Buckleys??? The Queen's has lost its touch I feel, beer as expensive as Wind St, but without the sexy young ladies pouring it lol | |

I don't know why it's called real ale, as much of it is fairly recent, unlike some of the lager sand especially the continental pilsners who have been brewing for centuries.I suspect the term is a sales ploy. | | | |
