Picton Monument in Carmarthen on 09:29 - Dec 23 by FieryJack | That's interesting, and something I've not heard of before. Bump into him occasionally and will pass it on. |
Fieryjack and Loh; The welsh surnames of 10% of all African Americans has a high profile due to the likes of Jesse Owens Carl Lewis Serena and Venus Williams Marion Jones Flo Griffiths-Joyner Roy Jones Jr Bernard Hopkins Lennox Lewis (canada) Quincy Jones Colin Powell There are just too many to list. Why would they all take the name of hated slave owners ? Its much more likely that they shared faith with the welsh clergy. The welsh clergy ran many slaves to freedom in the north, risking their own lives. Its likely the newly free slaves took these names through choice. I do hope its true ....

You can all kick myarse a my forst game was 1958 when Hadyn and I were relative whipper snappers. We lost that game too 5-3 against Wolves . Ive lived n many places and I have always had the bloody swans in my thoughts. It's worse than being on crack cocaine. Is it always pleasurable ?Nah. Mostly it's not but it's something I will carry me through to my grave. It's about what's in your heart.

I struggle to take Embery seriously, wholly because he looks scarily like the ginger twin of that well-known Ulster psychopath, Jamie Dornan. 😳

Picton Monument in Carmarthen on 12:07 - Dec 23 by 9MilesHigh | Just did a little Googling on this and it seems this battle was more famous for the savagery of the British soldiers going on a barbaric rampage after the French surrendered. 20% to 30% of the civilians massacred, needlessly and for fun. How anyone can celebrate Britain's past and laud evil like Picton and his kind is beyond me. It seems the history some read is chosen very selectively. |
invading armies thru history have sacked a city once a siege has been broken, the more difficult the siege, the greater atrocities... thats why they would parley to get terms. so its hardly Picton's fault You ever heard of the bombing of Guernica during the Spanish civil war? It was a pretty insignificant village, after the Germans bombed it, no town resisted Franco's forces after that. But I expect that was Picton's fault too [Post edited 23 Dec 2020 14:45]

Many of those answered for their crimes later at Nuremberg, Picton didn't. He's been found guilty in his absence

Oh bugger! I've been going to the Swans since the 72/73 season. I feel old now. I barely even remember anything about the games apart fro always being bored and wanting to go home by half time....and there being plenty of room on the West terrace.

Picton Monument in Carmarthen on 13:30 - Dec 23 by FieryJack | Regularly listen to that podcast on the way to and from work. Terrific archive. Plenty to chew over. Have to say, though, that Bragg, as he gets older, has become increasingly and intolerably tetchy, rude and arrogant towards his panel of experts, and slathers mate-ily over some (probably pals from his Mayfair club) whilst dismissively interrupting others. Beginning to remind me of Robin Day 😱 |
They're superb fair play. And as you say, plenty of them. Another I would recommend is the Witness History archive, all 3000 of them near enough.

I give a little bit back just once with a mild Michael Winner quote and I’m the bad guy? Do you think she’s let herself down by saying “Dear God you’re stupid”? It should be obvious to anybody that I’m not literally comparing much loved cheeky chappies Morcambe and Wise to a historical slave trader. Anybody who can’t see that it’s intended as an irreverent throw away remark to lighten the mood must be...well... stupid. |
I doubt very much Lisa gives a toss that you "gave a little back". Shame you have to resort to misogynistic comments though.

And Lisa has not been backward at coming forward with some feisty stuff herself. It was done in more articulate fashion but the sentiments the same. She is one to "protect ". I wish her vast accountancy knowledge had been put to more direct use at the club and maybe we wouldnt have suffered the demise we did. We had experts at everything yet every one kept their money on their pockets whereas at least jenkins and dineen put their own money in and then got lucky . It is why and only why action is being considered against them.Naked envy and it's sickening. We .ideally need to be sold and the Trust /Owners become a mere memory. Ideally.
