This is the best that I can remember. We were behind it and anyone who was there will swear that the shoddy camerawork does it no justice. The swerve on it was incredible, impossible even at that pace. Add in that we were incredulous that he was taking it and that (I think?) it was his first and last free kick for us (he didn't even take our penos) and the shock factor also added to the joy. Others?

In recent years, so much love for this one. Hit the sweet spot perfectly
Ya, great call.
Not sure the goalie could do a thing about it, which is one of the defining criteria - sure, Gazza, with your long-range belter to sink your team's rivals at Wembley, but here at Rangers we all expected Seaman to step right plant the wrong foot before edging left slowly, meekly, like a shy kid seeing his first wasps' nest.

9/10.
But -1 because I wasn't right behind it. Which was a bad call by Bards.
I was standing right at the back of the loft that night when Bardsley hit that I missed the first 25 minutes and got in to the ground to see them score , second half we totally battered them Happy days and only seems like yesterday
And Bowles is onside, Swinburne has come rushing out of his goal , what can Bowles do here , onto the left foot no, on to the right foot
That’s there that’s two, and that’s Bowles

Sorry, but bad goalkeeping?
I know what you’re saying Brian, but I don’t think the video does this one justice either. Yeni had one of those free kick techniques coming straight onto the ball and giving it a vicious backspin, making the keeper misjudge the ball’s flight path. I think he realised too late that it was dipping, making it look even more of a fluff on his part than giving the taker the credit.
Admittedly Keisuke Honda and Ronaldo are more renowned exponents of that skill, but I think Yeni struck that particular one quite sweetly.
Edit: undermining my own argument here! Upon further review he thumps it dead on with little spin, but still with an awkward trajectory. True the keeper wasn’t ready, but he wasn’t going to get that at that pace!

Fair comments, Leeds. I wasn't there.

Wooooooah - controversy!
By the way, I sometimes hear that Bardsley was great at free kicks - was this the only one he scored for us?
By my memory, that entire reputation was based on this (non) free kick. I was at that game though, we were effing brilliant in the second half. Could've scored, no lie, 7 or 8.
Bare bones.

I loved watching the free kick ploys that Terry Venables came up with. Some were well dodgy. I remember Gerry Francis would stand on the edge of the wall and pull the last player in the wall out of position as the ball was struck.
I also have a vague memory of some one counting out the 10 yards to the wall. He reached 8 as he got to the wall and waived his arms and the wall parted to let him through. The ball was quickly played through the gap to him and he slotted it in. Anyone else remember that?

Fenwick had a lovely foot on him. That free kick at Anfield in the semi final that just skimmed the post would have been our best ever if that had gone in
