Great appointment for Bolton.
Turned sour towards the end with us. Because he was our most successful manager and we was punching above our weight I think he felt he was above any critiscm from supporters. He should be coming back refreshed and deserves the opportunity at a higher profile club. |
I agree with 99% of this post, but it might have said "he deserves ANOTHER chance at a higher level". He upset some fans by going to Barnsley, after saying he'd stick with Dale, but didn't work his magic there.
Twice he not only reinvigorated a lacklustre squad, bringing the best out of players on the books and making signings who often went on to bigger clubs (and salaries), but he also fielded teams that played with flair and pace.
Has he still got what it takes? That is one of many questions given the troubled state of Bolton (but at least the club dodged the Laurence Bassini bullet). | | | |

Hope you get the good Hill; not the horrible one who surfaced towards the end of his tenure with Dale.
If you get the hungry, sensible version, then he will be a fantastic manager for Bolton, and might even see you safe this season. He is certainly capable of great things, and good football.
If you get the money mad bully who left us, then he won't last long at a bigger club whose supporters will savage him.
Please don't mention Man U. he is a massive supporter. All the Bolton fans I know can't stand them.

Prepare for a bit of rock’n’roll on the pitch and off the pitch. You won’t have had a manager like him and you’ll never have a manager like him again. He’ll say what he wants when he wants and at some point will upset clubs, owners and fans and it will be box office. You’ll have full backs playing upfront, centre midfield and just about anyone in the squad but full backs playing fullback.
Don’t underestimate the signing of Flicker as his assistant too. He is the perfect middle man between Hilly and the players. Probably the only person in the world that Hilly listens to and all. |  | | |

Completely echo everything that has been said. If his 6 months or so out of the game have cleared his head then you’ve got a great manager.
However, unless he has learnt to say the right things, my only fear is that he will p155 you all off.
We don’t get massive crowds, yet he took quite some offence to a few old codgers sat behind him. Multiply that by the differential in crowds at Bolton and he could quickly find himself alienated. | | | |

The best manager (and assistant) that we’ve ever had. We played some fantastic football under Hilly and he took us further up the league(s) than we thought possible.
Things went wrong toward the end of his time with us, Hilly just didn’t seem the same character and the team suffered.
You’ll see many fans say it will depend which Keith you get. He’s had time out of the game, will be refreshed, and has always been a proud Bolton lad. I think he’s perfect for Bolton right now. |
