England v Belgium 14:31 - Jun 27 with 15148 views | ElHoop | So who do we pick? Lose the game to get an easier quarter final? I'd love to see us thrash them. I couldn't care less who we end up playing. Let's just do a proper job and give a few guys a rest, but make everyone else worry about playing us. I'd like to see Kane and Alli start the game. Give Sterling, Lingard and Loftus-Cheek a break, and change the two wing backs. But I've no idea what he'll do. I just want us to win the game, regardless of the consequences.

Win the group, play your strongest team and keep the momentum going. Simple really. [Post edited 27 Jun 2018 14:35]

What happens if our strongest 11 gets beaten by their strongest 11?And Kane gets injured? The doubts and the doubters will then creep in.

We are clearly not going to play our strongest team from what is coming out of the camp. I just hope that we are strong enough to continue to rebuild our reputation - this thing is up for grabs and to smash Belgium would be another step forward against a proper team, the first one that we've faced in this tournament.

Feel like this is a team that needs a Holland 96 moment or to get its nose bloodied a little bit for the nous. Sail into the sharp end on an easier wave and I fear someone (OK, Uruguay) will do an expert job on us.
England v Belgium on 23:01 - Jun 27 with 7882 views | hubble | Be professional. Play to lose. Much easier route to the semis. The Belgians aren't going to play their strongest team so no great shakes whoever loses. Which of course England would never do. They'll play with passion and pride, win the next round and get stuffed by Brazil in the quarters.

England v Belgium on 00:04 - Jun 28 with 7856 views | smegma | Imagine the scene..... the clock is on 90 minutes , its 0-0 , one of our players has been booked. He has been subbed already. As the whistle is about to sound an England player deliberately punches the ball into the Belgian net. he gets a yellow card and England end up playing Sweden or Switzerland in the last 16 as they finished level with Belgium but have more yellow cards so finish 2nd in the group. It could happen. I hope we thump them about 3-0.
England v Belgium on 00:31 - Jun 28 with 7832 views | Jigsore | I think Kane should start but Vardy also needs more than a token 15 minutes at the end. i don't want wholesale changes but a happy and sharp squad is very important, so 2-3 changes wouldn't worry me

England v Belgium on 02:32 - Jun 28 with 7808 views | RANGERS4EVER | The amount of times people were enraged at Holloway changing a winning team this season, I think it's only fair to say KEEP THE BLOODY WINNING TEAM! Euro 2016- "Yes we got Iceland!" What happened then? I would be absolutely fuming if we played our second xi, lost, then lost in the round of 16 to Colombia. It's the World Cup! Win every game, enjoy it, make the most of it. This isn't some gruelling 46 game season. These are professionals. Play to win, and have fun in doing so. Mini rant over

England v Belgium on 07:28 - Jun 28 with 7718 views | DylanP | Goals for the Belgium game: 1. No injuries 2. No yellow cards 3. Give players who haven't started yet a run-out without upsetting the team balance -- its not like Vardy s a huge drop-off from Sterling and the game time may do him good. This is the World Cup. The goal isn't to win the third game in the group stage, the goal is to go as far as possible. If we fulfill those three goals, I don't care what the result is.

England v Belgium on 07:41 - Jun 28 with 7701 views | kingsburyR | I'd make a few changes but still look for the win. Rose in for Trippier (think he's carrying a knock) Dier for Henderson (to give him a run out) Rashford for Sterling (to give him a proper run out) Vardy for Kane (Rest Kane and give Vardy a competitive game) Not sure I'd start Alli either yet. But a wins a win and if it means avoiding Columbia then do so. From then on its the World Cup Quarter Finals. Take your chances with whoever it is. Haven't seen too much from Brazil yet!! This. Whether you get one of Colombia, Senegal or Japan in the next round, it's going to be a tough game regardless. Worry about the quarter final till you get there, and if it ends up being Brazil or Mexico then so be it.

Well said, I was reading this thread wondering if England had for whatever reason been given a pass for the second round. Lots of talk of quarters and semis?! Whoever England get in the last 16 will be a far, far bigger test than what they've faced thus far.

People seem to forget we barley squeaked past Cameroon in 1990. It's the knockout stages of a World Cup, whoever is there is there on a merit and will be difficult to beat. We've beaten Tunisia and Panama and suddenly we're world beaters? Admittedly this is one of the most open World Cups in years and all the better for it, but for England it's time for a bit of a reality check. We'll now probably beat Belgium, the 'we can win it!!!!' bandwagon will go into overdrive. And we'll lose in the next round.

Not necessarily. Could easily be Japan or Senegal - not mugs, but not "a far far bigger test" than Tunisia. Colombia could be seen as a big test but it's not an accident that they're 3rd in the group. On paper whoever we get in the next round should be easier to beat than Belgium. Remember also that playing Germany would have been seen as the tough choice a couple of days ago - anyone still think so after yesterday, and their game v Mexico, and their first half v Sweden? On current form Argentina and Brazil aren't that scary either, I'd probably take either of them rather than Croatia unless the Croats have peaked too early.
