Have the Americans spent any money? 12:29 - Jul 23 with 12300 viewsdeanscfc

Last season, if i remember correctly, we were the only team to make a net profit on transfers with the Americans refusing to put their hand in their pockets. As a result we struggled and would have gone down were it not for a couple of key players.

If rumors are anything to go by it now seems that we may be willing to sell those key players for a price so that yet again the Americans can make a nice little profit and the expense of the club and the fans. Last year they will have had a scare but in the end were able to make a nice return on their investment with some of the sky money. I can't help thinking that unless we both keep our key players AND spend in key areas that the Americans are starting to take the p*ss...

In fairness to the Yanks. They never claimed they were going to. And for that matter, I dount we should want them to. We should always be spending the clubs money and not anyone elses. This is why it is imperative we need to sell our players at peak value and invest wisely.

I suppose.. when it was absolutely necessary. I just feel (particularly after watching the last tour game last night) that we are in danger of getting into ourselves into a right mess again because of owner greed.

No they didn't. As discussed previously the January signings we funded via a loan taken out against the club. They've spent £0 of their own cash on the team / facilities which makes a mockery of Huw's "we need investment to go to the next level" justification for selling out

How do you feel about our transfer dealings over the last two years?

I've removed myself from thinking too hard about transfers this off season, feeling a bit underwhelmed by it all. Wasn't so long ago that we were excited about new signings (our Spanish contingent mainly) and hammering teams in pre season. Now we're just worried about losing our best players after another season of struggle and and failing to score in draws against American MLS teams.

There's no denying that. But that isn't the point is it. The ambiguity is where did the money to fund those transfers come from. Obviously it wasn't out of the yanks pockets

They've made nothing but profit.
And are about to get half their investment back in one transfer.

Indeed we are no different to any other club and to turn down 45 million for Sigurdsson would be madness.

They have done better than I thought they would.
There 2 big mistakes were not informing the Trust of the sale and appointing Bradley they fixed the 2nd error
Transfers have been ok as well Ayew and Williams both wanted out.
We spent the majority of that money on Baston Llorente and Mawson.
Then brought in Clement and backed him with coaching staff and a decent January window.

Nope. Balancing the books or a small profit on transfers and lowering the overall wages bill is what I expect.

Hardly been awe inspiring has it? No investment in the playing staff or facilities, the horrible way they treated Guido, hiring Bradley, lack of communication with the trust, amongst other things. Admire them for swallowing their pride and sacking Bradley, releasing funds in January for reinforcements (albeit not their money) and the tough stance to Siggy/Fernando suitors though. So no, not a great performance so far.

Well you seem to be fifty fifty on that post, did you honestly expect them to come in and spend mega millions, I'm happy to see how the season pans out, but I don't think they have been as bad as some try to make out

No, despite Huws claims I didn't expect them to put any money in. And so far this theory has been correct. Not fifty fifty no, far from it. The negatives unfortunately outweigh the positives so far.
