While a lot of people are pointlessly losing their shit about 2 defeats (as if that hasn't happened before), Jimmy will have seen these guys every day and will know what they are capable of. Sure he'll make some tweaks, Polish Boris and Polter getting fit again will make a difference as well as a chance to get Wszołew and Sylla fully up to speed and used to the English game. He has confidence he and they will do it and I'm more than happy for that.

What I do know is that the man's tactics do not keep the team solid, and we are completely bereft of a goal scoring threat (from open play). We will get stuffed again this week by Sunderland : he's declared he'll play the kids against a Premier League side, and Defoe must be licking his lips. Not that any of that really matters. Brum and Foolham are huge, and we look in no shape for either of them. If we are really bad against Birmingham, he may be gone before we cave in at the Cottage. They're not tearing up any trees either, but I'd be surprised - nay, amazed - to get anything there.

Unlikely to be productive either. I'd like to think on Wednesday given we'll be playing a team who rarely score and are likely to rest key players that we'll at least have a go. By have a go I mean pick two wide players and a striker who is capable of playing the role. Birmingham will be a huge test- a well organised, confident team with an excellent manager. We'll do well to score a goal with the current style of play, let alone win. Hopefully the improvement in the last 20 at Huddersfield will give him an idea.

Agreed we always said the home games against Preston and Blackburn were poor and those sort of results are relegation form, don't expect anything to change in the next three games. It all depends how long fans and the board want to give JFH but results are not going to improve quickly , I genuinely want Jimmy to succeed but feel he needs a bit more Championship quality in the squad.

Yes, with the board not giving the next manager enough games and time to salvage the season. I believe in our players : I think, in a Championship context, we have a very decent squad (full-back options not withstanding). There is absolutely no reason why selecting from these players should lead to a poor, ineffective team. We are pissing away the parachute years, though : anyone who thinks we will be paying loan fees for Polish international wingers once the money dries up can think again. I really fear a Charlton-like fate unless we can get someone in who'll mould these guys into an ambitious attacking force that the fans can get behind.

The FIfa and Champ Manager experts on here may automatically think that one up front is a negative formation and you have to have two, but 4-2-3-1 can be played in a very attacking way - in fact, Huddersfield did exactly that to us on Saturday, almost morphing into a flat front four at times, with the full backs pushing up as well. Our Neil Warnock promotion season was Helguson as the one, then Taarabt, Ephraim, Mackie, Routledge etc making up the three with Faurlin and Derry behind that. Two wingers one striker and a ten is not a negative formation by definition. We're certainly not playing it in a positive, attacking way though.

Agree that 4-2-3-1 can be very attacking and very fluid. However, Hasselbaink in the interview talked about playing two out and out wingers! Really? What about two out and out square pegs in round holes? Cousins is not a winger at all and has proved it time and again this season and Perch against Newcastle? Was his job to be an out and out winger and not employed to help protect that out and out right back Onouha? And he says that when confidence returns to the team he wants them to get back to what they were doing prior to the Newcastle game? Really? Struggled against Blackburn at home and could have lost in what was a dire game of football. Struggled against Wigan away, nicked a 1-0 win against an equally poor side where 'nil' for both sides would have flattered them, and got out-thought and out-fought against a then pointless Preston side who have just got walloped by Brentford, lost 2-0 and we didn't have any kind of shot until the 58th minute. Is that where he thinks where we ought to be? No thanks Jimmy. Best be on your way.

Apart from the Leeds game where I thought we genuinely played well, I have not seen us come close to that level since. Yes we play with 2 wingers and a number 10, but he failed to mention that our wingers play on the wrong wing, and our central midfielder plays on the right. That makes a bit of a difference! Please can we give Ariel and Cousins/Luongo a go in the middle, and Yeni out on the right, just once please! I understand this solid approach to an extent, and maybe it worked in league one. But in the Championship, you cant set up to invite quality teams to attack you imo. We have enough quality in our own side, to cause fear to our opponents. Why don't we believe in ourselves a bit more and try to actually play some football? Tired of watching short passes sideways then hopefully long balls to nobody. I'm sure this system can work, but if we continue the above then I have no faith whatsoever
http://www.westlondonsport.com/qpr/qpr-boss-responds-criticism-style-play? on 14:59 - Sep 19 with 4815 views | simmo | As usual, it's not as simple as changing a formation. 4-2-3-1 could easily be more like a 4-5-1 or can be a 4-2-4, the trick is transitioning from one to another quickly when you are in and out of possession. Our tempo is so slow that we don't move up the pitch quickly and it leaves us looking either for inspration from our only creative player (Chery) who since Preston has been doubled up on, or lumping it towards a striker that doesn't have enough support around him to make those kind of passes effective. We're so obsessed with shape and being 'deep', 'tight' and 'narrow' that we end up either too tired or too deep to do anything when we have got the ball. We're so fckin narrow that our full backs are 10 yards off the opposition wingers. Whilst I can see where JFH is coming from and there's nothing wrong with his current formation, he needs to realise that the execution of his ideas are either not working or not being implemented correctly on the pitch. You don't have to be a tactical mastermind to see that we've been lacking in the areas his teams are supposed to be defined by and with Polter and Sylla looking really good Championship target men, maybe it's time to consider playing to their strengths.

very true, in essence any formation can be defensive or attacking depending on the players given the opportunity to play. when you are not picking recognised attacking players for attacking roles the idea starts to unravel. If you are away and want to be slightly more cautious that's fair enough if you then switch at home and go for it with a tad more oomph! 3-5-2, 4-4-2 0r 4-5-1 doesn't really matter as it's more important (imo) about getting the right palyers in the right position; according to the opposition. Simple as that!

Does the season really need salvaging Unless we are in a relegation battle I don't see the point in changing it.I know we were poor in the last 2 games and average in the one before but it's not the end of the world, we've another 4 games this month before another load next month and the month after. It's never ending in this league and I doubt we'll have much of a clue as to where we stand until Christmas unless we really fall apart. We blew our chance at the prem and this is the consequence, it's going to take a while to rebuild and do things the hard way. Norwich managed it 10 years ago and eventually got themselves back up but didn't happen over night and won't for us either.

True but Warnock had the team set up so that Helguson, Taarabt, Ephraim, Mackie and Routledge were never more than 10 yards from each other. Faurlin and Derry again never more than 10 yards from the cluster. That was about Warnock knowing how to tell a player to do something, look around and make sure they were close to each other and communicated. I am not sure JFH knows how to do that. Remember last season where our midfield and forward line were floating around like debris on the last few Ramsey games. Warnock came down stairs and in one training session before his first game, I think against Leeds, he put out pretty much the same time and they looked like a proper coherent team. He and Kevin Blackwell knew how to set a team up. Not young, not ground breaking, just good old fashioned solid management and coaching. In this case perhaps we are letting David Oldfield off the hook. Perhaps he is potentially the weak link? Perhaps it isn't all down to JFH losing the plot a bit. Here's my major issue with people calling for him to be sacked. Criticism, when constructive, fine. Sacked - can't agree. Since he took over the job in November, we lost these players: Austin (not that he ever got to play him), Phillips, Hoilett (much-maligned, but between them either scored or created around 20 goals last season), Hill, Faurlin (both his decison, both correct, but bear with me) and Green (no loss). Last summer we also lost a lot of players - all needed to go, but the point is that this is a squad in an enormous state of flux. Not helped by a change of manager in the middle of it. At the same time, while he has had some funds, he hasn't been able to get his top choices very often because of the state of the market. All the players we lost had to go - but at the same time, they all needed to be replaced. Onuoha and, remarkably, Henry are the only two to have survived the cull from 13 months ago. This is an enormous job, an enormous re-structure, it's not going to be easy, it's not going to be quick - more importantly, a 'quick-fix' option, which could be possible with a name manager and a lot of money, would only put us back in the same hole we're trying to crawl out of. The bizarre situation now where even away victories are sort of being discounted to fit a narrative is particularly galling. And the fact that, really and truly, some people are using Sandro - SANDRO - as a stick to beat JFH with is totally beyond me. Sandro! I think I remember 10 or 20 minutes where he looked vaguely like a footballer in the last two years, but I can't be sure. Most of all though, I'm fed up of changing managers. It's getting ridiculous. We're like an idiot in a casino. 'Twist... twist... twist...' 'You bust, sir.' 'Twist.' 'Sir...' 'Hit me.' 'Sir, you're on 37.' 'Twist.' The season is 8 games old. We won three of those games. Not strictly true. According to LF we missed out on one target, and it is assumed that was Alfie Mawson who went to Swansea from Barnsley. Also with regards to bedding in a new team, Smithies, Onouha, Hall, Henry, Luongo, Chery and Washington all started on Saturday who have been with the club, bar Washington since before Hasselbaink arrived. In comparison, Huddersfield signed 13 players during the summer, many from abroad and they have seemed to have bedded in OK. It isn't about sacking a manager after a few bad results as far as I am concerned it runs far deeper than that. Hasselbaink has managed the club in 31 league games so far. He has won 9, drawn 12 and lost 10. Rangers have scored 40 goals and let in 43 goals. But having been to around 25 of those games myself I can honestly say that there are four games that have stayed in the memory of enjoyment, Brighton at home last season, mainly for the come back from 2 goals down, Derby at home, especially because of the second half baiting of Richard Keogh, Brentford at home and probably Leeds at home at the start of this season, when the much promised high-tempo, high-pressing game was pretty much on view. Much of what was on offer last season was poor, but I forgave Hasselbaink that due to the fact that he was trying to organise a team, which he felt was unfit for the style of play that he wanted to impose. Now he has his own squad pretty much, kept those that he wanted, including Karl Henry and since the first game of the season all I have seen is performances going backwards, a slow-tempo to games and no pressing whatsoever, except from the opposition. I see players played out of position, when there are players on the bench that would do a far better job. I see chaos at times in the defence, I see the forward line divorced from the rest of the team and I see the midfield getting neck ache or just passing back to the defence. I see total confusing and no adhesion within the team. I see a team that looks knackered by half time. I see nothing that convinces me now that Hasselbaink should be given a chance. A chance for what? A relegation dogfight? Because if that is so then he will lose it.

Apart from the 10/11 season and our Wembley win, hasn't every season been more or less a relegation battle for the past 10 years? We all know what it takes to get out of this league. You either have to hit the ground running and produce top performances regularly as we did with Warnock or you have to spend big as we did with Redknapp. You also need a lot of luck. JFH is a good young manager . Its ridiculous that we are talking about sacking now. I do feel he needs a bit of help from someone with experience. I think Jackett would be a good fit (ahem) and has been there ,done it ,bought the t shirt. I also think JFH needs the fans on side. Why cant we support him? The fans are the most important and influential people at the club. This negative, sack him mentality is going to get us no where imo. Ive been reading and posting on LFW for about 8-9 years and its like groundhog day. I could literally cut and paste my post's from any season over the last few years.
