He has struggled to get into their side all season only 6 appearances, but as I said what I've see I like. Just cant go over the top about a player who cant get into a side I think we should be competing with.

Am I right in saying he has never been a regular with Southampton since they got into premier league? I don't know much about him, but we seem to be always linked with him so I would hope he has something about him. Fingers crossed he comes good but I agree with Penc, struggle to get excited with this one.

Jack Cork on 19:19 - Jan 29 by karnataka | This is great news if true, he may not be a world beater (yet), but it's one hell of a step in the right direction for us for the remainder of the season. We could have a Ki-Cork-Siggi trio in midfield for the Sunderland game which definitely be an improvement on recent weeks. |
Except that Siggi is suspended for 3 games

I would swap him for JJS any time. Only KI and Siggy I would rate as better and Leon if he can regain his form. Carroll could go on to be better but not at the moment. For me he would be in a starting three. Like it or not Southhampton have a better squad and manager than us, that is why they are where they are.
Jack Cork on 20:10 - Jan 29 with 2883 views | BLAZE | His limited game time may be to do with the breakdown of contract talks? Two arguments - either play him and put him in the shop window so you can make as much as possible, even if it's gonna be reduced due to the short contract length, or leave him on the bench and develop the players committed to sticking around. Didn't we do similar with a player once? Pratley maybe? | | | | Login to get fewer ads

He's different to what we have though. Not better. Not worse. Different. he is a specialist DM and I would say that we don't have one at the moment (other than Leon). I don't believe it to be Ki's best position (though he is the best we have there which is different). Certainly believe JJs is better more advanced.

Funny enough Tom went over for a nose myself Didn't realise they had a few out Sunday (from the Saints/Swansea thread) 'ugh, with Long, Mane, Wanyama, Schneiderlin, and Alderweireld all unavailable' They still seem pretty confident (arrogant) lot.

i agree i didn't say he was worse than what we got and he is more defensive minded than what we got which will help

I think you're missing the fact that Southampton are extremely strong in defensive midfield two of their top five players including their best player are defensive midfielders whereas Swansea are relying on a player many(most?) think is coming to the end of his career and have no real back up there. Think of Mata to United or Welbeck to Arsenal some teams just get very strong in one position and can't find a spot for a player who's more talented than others in the team but not those he's directly competing for a spot.

koeman bring his own players in and the regulars get dropped for his signings, it happens at every club.

I think you've hit the nail on the head there. Southampton seem to be heading for a top four finish. Not to be able to hold down a regular place in their team is no great shame. If we were signing a similarly dislodged player from a more established side (Chelsea, Man U, Man City etc) then we'd be over the moon. It's not like we're signing him from QPR or Leicester say, and he wasn't deemed good enough to get in their side.

With that in mind and the fact that many tipped Southampton to struggle this season .... Has Koeman done a far better job than Garry in the transfer market or is it down to their acamedy ? ( I'm not anti monk btw)

Koeman's greater experience has undoubtedly been a benefit, but they've also sold four players for massive sums and reinvested that in five or six new acquisitions that have given them much greater strength in depth. They're a lesson to us in how to get top dollar for your best players.

Depends how they replace him. They've got a pretty good record when it comes to appointing managers too. [Post edited 29 Jan 2015 22:06]

That's what they said when Fatchopstino left along with all their 'best' players, so I wouldn't be so sure. They have a good base and what we should, imo, be aspiring to. Production line of talent and sound decisions in and out. You could argue (I'm not sure I would, but I might) that they took our mantle whilst we were asleep at the wheel basking in league cup glory. Certainly I think we are playing catch up now.....taking one of their reserves tends to indicate that too... Still a good addition where we need strengthening though.
