Saints Willing To Let Jordy Clasie Go

According to Sky Sports Saints are willing to listen to offers for Dutch International midfielder Jordy Clasie.

Jordie Clasie has not had the best of luck during his two years at Saints, firstly he was injured on his debut for the club against Vitesse in the Europa League which meant he missed the first two months of the Premier League season and then he found himself marginalised in the second half of last season under Claude Puel.

But he did play some godo games for the club and was instrumental in the second half of his first season as Saints stormed to a sixth place finish.

Last season saw him as a regular in Claude Puel's early line ups as well as being used off the bench, but then suddenly after the New Year he found himself mysteriously dropped and at times unable to even get on the bench.

It was strange given his pivotal role in our League Cup run with a fine strike at Arsenal and playing 73 minutes of the semi final first leg against Liverpool at St Mary's.

But then he was deemed surplus to requirements by Puel and after the end of January he would only appear three more times, the first as sub at Watford in the last 3 minutes and then two starts firstly at West Brom where he was arguably man of the match and scored a superb winning goal, his reward for this was to be dropped and not appear again for another 5 weeks.

His last appearance and perhaps his last for the club was at Middlesbrough where he again starred in a 2-1 win starting the move for the opening goal and putting in a good shift.

Now he finds his opportunities limited with the arrival of Mario Lemina and although in an ideal World Saints would keep him, the reality is that we are top heavy in the centre of the park and he will find it hard to get game time.

It therefore makes sense to sell him on and rake in at least the £8 million he cost back in 2015, freeing up a space in the squad and putting some money in the transfer kitty.

I for one will be sad to see him go, for reasons seemingly beyond his control he never really got the chance toget his career at St Mary's going at anything other than a stop start pace, I think we did not see the best of Jordy Clasie and now probably never will at least in a Saints shirt.

But he was not a failure at Saints, far from it, he made vital contributions in both of his full seasons at the club and without them the chances are we might never have achieved a sixth place finish, nor reached Wembley last season, I wish him well should he move on in this transfer window.
