Gobern Goes !

Oscar Gobern has turned down the offer of a new contract and looks set for pastures anew.

Oscar Gobern looks likely to complete a move to Huddersfield Town with the fee to be decided by tribunal, and its probably an indication of where the club sits at the moment that he cant see a future at St Mary's even if he stays and fights for his place.

He is probably right, the Saints midfield is crammed with players that have been brought in, some at relatively big fees for even the Championship let alone League 1 and he would have probably have faced another season of cameo roles off the bench.

Sadly I thinik it will be a loss for Saints, he was a big and powerful player who had an eye for goal and he could blossom at the Yorkshire club, last season he never really got the chances he deserved and when you look a the number of games that Jason Puncheon played for little real contribution then Gobern could consider himself a little unlucky in finding himself in the wrong place at the wrong time somewhat as Saints will have money to spend rather than rely on home grown talent, but he could well come good  so hopefully the fee will include a sell on clause.

Funnily enough it always used to be the case that player career's used to go downhill a bit when they left Saints, but that now seems to be reversed and in recent years  players who were absolute rubbish for us and never really put in a decent game, go on and really show their talent elsewhere, look at this list of both homegrown and bought in players who for one reason or another were not considered good enough but have spent the last few years in a better position than Saints, Matt Mills, Danny Higginbotham, Rory Delap, Stephen Crainey, Brett Ormerod, Dexter Blackstock, Leon Best, Ricardo Fuller, Nathan Dyer, Bradley Wright Phillips,

Thats an incredible amount of players in a fairly short period of time and if i had more time i could probably think of a few more, but all of these were let go because the managers they were playing under at the time considered that they werent good enough and they could get better players in, of course some of them were just plain rubbish in the case of Dyer, but why has he improved so much away from Saints whilst clearly here he wasnt interested.

WE always have had a good reputation as a club that gives youth a chance, those players used to be loyal to us for a good while, but now they dont seem to have the affection for Saints that their predecessors used to have and jump ship at the first opportunity.
