Southampton Women's FC Announce New Home Ground
Southampton Women's FC Announce New Home Ground
Tuesday, 6th Oct 2015 11:59

Southampton Women's FC is one of the oldest women's teams in the country now they are going to play their home games at Testwood Stadium

Southampton Women's Football Club were one of the top women's sides in the Country in the 1970's winning the Women's FA Cup 8 times between 1971 & 1983 and providing players for the fledgling England Woman's side with one of those games being played at the Dell.

In the 1980's the initial charge of the Woman's game subsided and SWFC's dominance diminished with the club being diluted by the formation of Red Star Southampton who later became Southampton Saints and were subsidised by Saints themselves for a decade until relegation in 2005 meant that they ceased this sponsorship in a cost cutting measure.

But Southampton WFC have always continued on, despite being overshadowed by the newer club in the City and now they have linked up with AFC Totton to play their home games at the Testwood Stadium on Salisbury Road.

Next Sunday (11 October 2015) at 2pm, Southampton Women’s FC take on London Corinthians Ladies FC in the third qualify round of the FA Women’s Cup.

Home games follow for the next two weeks as well as they play New Forest Ladies FC in the League on 18th October and then again the following Sunday (25th October) in the League Cup. All games kick off at 2pm.

Bar is open for games and teas and coffees are available.

Southampton Women are a new side, not the club with all the history. They're overshadowed by Southampton Saints Girls and Ladies FC because they play 2 levels higher in the women's football pyramid in the FA Women's Premier League South West Division One. Funny how Southampton Women haven't entered the Southampton Cup where inevitably they would meet Southampton Saints Ladies but this fixture has seemed to be "dodged" over the past few seasons. Fingers crossed if they get through the 3rd round of the FA Women's Cup they draw Southampton Saints Ladies who will put them in the place!

Pleased that you have given the womens game some column inches Nick and thanks to wellsy for the added information. Not living in the city or region anymore means that I sometimes miss out on the less publicised stuff.
I for one would like the club at some point to return to supporting the women's game in the area and if I am honest I am very surprised that they have not under the current owner and regime.
