Pardew To Bid For Lallana Wednesday, 5th Dec 2012 11:08
According to press reports Newcastle United are ready to put in a bid for Adam Lallana in the January transfer window.
Toon boss Alan Pardew is of course no stranger to the skills of the Saints captain having managed Saints and Lallana for just over a year between July 2009 & August 2010 and looks set to offer £5 million for the player.
However having left Saints under a cloud, something which Pardew alluded to recently in his interviews when Newcastle played at St Mary's and his alleged disagreements with Chairman Nicola Cortese, this could scupper his attempts with Cortese sure to rebuff his attempts or at least force him to pay a silly amount just out of spite.
Saints fans would of course be horrified to see Lallana leave although if Saints are relegated then it is probably likely to happen, therefore the next month is probably crucial for Lallana's future at St Mary's, a few good wins and Saints will need their Captain to ensure survival, however if Saints were to lose touch with safety in the Premier then the temptation to cash in in January for top dollar rather than see him leave cut price in the summer is not something to be discounted.

Well £5m is not "top dollar" he must be worth much more to us than that despite his much discussed failings.

Premier League Captain with a four year contract and a recent call up to the England Squad does not = 5m. This has been conjured out of thin air becasue Arsenal are to Offer 7.5m for Ba who has a release clause for that amount otherwise would be worth a good deal more Someone somewhere will soon be saying that we are set to offer 3m for a Championship Midfielder

Yeah Liam Trotter most probably. Cortese would never let Lallana go to Newcastle, and £5m is a joke. What a load of s***e this story is. We wouldn't even sell him to United for £10m, not while we're in the Premiership. We need a Premiership quality goalkeeper and a solid centre back or two. I'd also like us to sign Jermaine Lens if we can. He'd be a damn sight better than Jason 'I only play well against my former teams' Puncheon.

I don’t think we need to give this any attention. He would only leave on the promise of champions league football. Even then it would be hard to see him go. He is one of the few true saints….and could go down as a legend. Im more concerned about shaw going to be honest. Has he signed a new contract yet?

To be fair the papers haven't done much in the way of antagonising Cortese for a little while now. Personally I can't see Adam wanting to uproot his young family and move miles up north to play for a struggling Newcastle side. What's more he has often spoken of his love for this club. Besides if I was him and Newcastle offered £5m for me I'd feel majorly undervalued.

Reedy on the subject of Puncheon I'd have agreed with you all day long before this season, but his performances recently have been as good as anyone's.

Yeah Puncheon has been better recently but I'm still not overly impressed with him. On his day, like against QPR, he can be unplayable and win you games. But we don't see it enough. He's so inconsistent. Against Liverpool he didn't look interested. He's not the type of player you want in your team when things aren't going well because he's not the type to roll up his sleeves and try to turn things around. His attitude has always been questioned and although its better now than it ever has been, he still seems to only raise his game when it suits him, and only does well when the team as a whole is on top. I just feel that if we want to improve as a team then he'd be the first attacking player to be replaced. At the moment though, he's the best option we've got on the wing, and our attack of Lambert, Ramirez, Lallana and Puncheon looks full of goals when it clicks, especially at home. So lets hope Puncheon can raise his game against Reading! We'll need big performances all round to get the win.

I realise that newcastle are a bigger club than us but if you were Lallana why the feck would you want to go there ffs ? Lets face it they are no more likely to win anything than we are !!. If we got relegated yes of course let him go and i would say his value is around 8 or 9 million not 5 ffs. A for Puncheon Reedy utter tosh mate!! Puncheon HAS BEEN VERY CONSISTENT, PERHAPS MORE THAN ANYONE this season jeesus what games have you been watching ?

Puncheon outstanding against Man City, Man utd, Villa, QPR, Swansea thats off the top of my head without thinking ffs !

I'd say Puncheon was outstanding against QPR and very good against Villa and Newcastle. The rest of the time he hasn't been that great. Maybe I'm being a bit harsh, but it just seems as though he can raise his game when he wants to, but when things aren't going right for the team his head goes down and he goes missing. Here's hoping he has a blinder on Saturday though!!

So a story on Lallana turns into a debate about Puncheon! To put the record straight about SHAW for someone who posted "has he signed a new contract yet"; as he is under 18, he can't sign a professional contract and so is still on Academy Papers. Just like JWP, I am sure that as soon as he reaches his 18th Birthday, the Club will offer him a 5yr deal. As for Adam going to the Toon, £5m is a major undervaluation of him, he still has 4yrs to go on his existing contract and is the kind of lad that is loyal having fought so hard to get us up. He enjoys a great life down on the South Coast with his family and is not into the things the stereotypical footballers tend to be. He prefers the quiet life, walking his dogs on the beach and reading.

If Adam was to go i wouldnt blame him. Been a good servant to Saints.Get the cash and re-invest it into the club. Everyone has his price.

Blogs 31 bloggersKnees-up Mother Brown #19 by wessex_exile February, and the U’s enter the most pivotal month of the season. Six games in just four weeks, with four of them against sides also in the bottom six. By March we should be either well clear of danger, or even deeper in the sh*t. With Danny Cowley’s U’s still unbeaten, and looking stronger game on game, I’m sure it’ll be the former, but first we have to do our bit to consign Steve ‘Sour Grapes’ Cotterill’s FGR back to non-league. After our shambolic 5-0 defeat at New Lawn, nothing would give me greater pleasure, even if it meant losing one of my closest awaydays in the process.
