QPR's Hillsborough promotion party - History
at 21:09 12 Sep 2024

Some great memories that day, it seems like yesterday.
Two hours before kickoff, in the away fans Pub The Horse and Jockey.
The Landlord saying to me…..,,
‘F**k me you’ve drunk us dry’

Stevie Palmer saying to Ollie when he wanted to bring on Subs……..
‘Why change anything?’

The Ref nodding at Lee Camp holding his arms out, telling him to kick the ball to him, so that he could blow the final whistle.
Lee Camp in tears, running over to his family to celebrate, and they were all in one of the Wednesday Stands.

The four Wednesday fans who watched all of our celebrations after the match and then applauded us.

Getting home at midnight the day later……I must have had a right good drink.

P.S.

What a day 😎
A group of us in the ‘Away’ Pub, The Horse and Jockey.
When Ollie wanted to make Subs, Stevie Palmer looked at him and said calmly…..
‘Why change it’?

Anyone remember the small group of Wednesday fans in the Stand to our right, who stayed and watched our celebrations, and applauded our team and fans when they eventually left?
A touch of class.

Back in the Horse and Jockey after the match.
If anyone has got any footage of me break dancing………….
Please delete or destroy.
Many thanks.

Stan Bowles

So many wonderful memories of Stan.
Had many conversations with him, and what you saw was what you got.
My favourite was in 2001, when we needed at least a draw against Greece to get to the World Cup.
I was in the Albany Pub, a crowd of us watching the match, including Stan.
It was a shitehole of a Pub (closed down after a fella got stabbed to death in there) but with a good big screen.

The ‘Gents’ was just to the left of the big screen.
Stan went into the Gents, and we scored.
He came out and everyone was screaming.
The match continued, and everyone was getting edgy.
Right at the end, Stan went into the Gents again.
And then we got a free kick….
Beckham stepped up, and we all know what happened next.
The Pub went up in the air…….
The door to the Gents opened, and Stan stood there with a look of disbelief on his face.
The whole Pub started singing and pointing at him……
‘Back in the Loo
Back in the Loo
Back in the Loooooo’

Stan kept shouting, ‘F**k me, no, really?’
A great day, I don’t think anyone left the Pub sober.
Also, as I recall, Stan never bought a drink.
But then again, he was Stan, he never needed to buy a drink.

Rest in Peace Stan.
Sleep easy.

The Royalists?
at 21:41 22 Dec 2023

Very true.
My Grandad had a season ticket in 1909, the first year we sold season tickets.
He went off to war, along with his four brothers.
He was lucky, he got captured and spent 3 years in a prison of war camp.
He came back skin and bones.
His brothers were all killed.
The kindest man I’ve ever known.
Maybe because his experiences taught him the value of life.

Wow.
Away from the news today.
Late to this thread, but……
The way I see it is……………..
A greedy bastard, is a greedy bastard, is a greedy bastard.

It’s all about the money, nothing will ever change.
Football, like every other ‘industry’ will generate billions, and the supporters will pay.

I don’t mean us…….
I mean the families all over the world, from Dubai to Indonesia, sitting in front of the TV in their replica shirts, paying 30-40-50 quid a match, watching ‘their’ team.

I’m glad that I watched football during the era when it was football.

To the wealthy owners from The Middle East….. China…..USA……Russia…. and anywhere else in the world.

Piss and shit on the lot of you from the top of Canary Wharf.

Anyway……..

Dear Terry Venables

I’d like to think that you are in a better place now.
I’d like to think that our lot stood up tonight with you on their minds.

Make me right, it’s long overdue that they did stand up.

I’d like to think that this far down the line with our current ‘Owners,’ that they have finally removed the sh*t from their eyes, and realised that our Club is not about them.

I’d like to think that they will leave the boy Cifuentes alone for the next three years.
I know that eventually we will be in a better place if they do.

Thanks for all the memories.
In my eyes, tonight was for you.

We march on.

Terry Venables RIP
at 17:49 26 Nov 2023

The first time I saw Terry , I fell in love.
It was 1967 and there was a picture of him in the Paper, holding the FA Cup, Spurs beat the scum.

I remember standing in the Boys Enclosure in front of the Loft, watching him play for us.
The pitch always seemed like a mud patch, but he seemed to ping the ball all over the place.

As far as I aware, he is the only player EVER, who has played for England in every available age group, including England Amateurs.

The really sad thing about his career as a Manager, is he turned up at Barcelona when a certain Diego Maradona was there.

It was shortly after the Falklands War.
Maradona was in his prime.
But it was never going happen that he played for an English Manager at that time.
So Maradona went to Italy.

But if he had stayed…..…
We would have been privileged to see the best player in the world………..
Managed by the best Coach in the world….

Rest in Peace Terry.
Sleep easy……….

I think you’ve got him.
One of the Kennedy’s from the family out of Notting Hill.
They used to travel on the same train as the players to away games.
I think that’s how he knew Mark, as the fans and players would play cards together on the train.

The fella who tried to grab the Northampton player was one of ours and a huge fan of Mark Lazarus.
A Northampton player had committed a dreadful foul on Lazarus.
So he ran onto the pitch to try and confront the player.
Lazarus knew the fan socially, and said he was so surprised to see him on the pitch, as he was normally a polite, quiet well mannered chap.

I’ve never seen that picture before, but Lazarus told myself and Steve Russell that story when we spoke to him about fifteen years ago.

Should it be Queen's Park Rangers?
at 08:35 20 Nov 2023

How have I missed this thread. 😳🙂

We are Queen’s Park Rangers.

Queen’s Park was created to be the site of the first Royal Agricultural Show.
Queen Victoria opened the first show.
The Park is named after her……..a single Queen.
If it was named after more than one Queen, it would be Queens Park.

Queen’s Park sits on London Clay, so it flooded and the Show was moved to Park Royal.
The Park today is only a fraction of the size of the original Park.
Residential Houses were built on most of the Park.

Still….. these days we could argue whether or not we are a football club that actually plays football.

I think Jurgen Klopp is a top Manager.

But…………..

Whenever I see him being interviewed, or hear him being interviewed, and he says………
‘In this moment’
I mutter under my breath, that wonderful catch all four letter word……
C*nt

I don’t know why, but I feel completely justified in doing so.
